Miles better than "Love You Like That" but honestly how long would this one take to climb? It may be more friendly sonically, actually.
This has a real old-school feel to it. Not necessarily old country, just old-school. Not much melody going on and obviously too overproduced.
That said, this may actually be the most country song on the album, aside from "One of Those".
Between this and Billy Currington's "Drinkin' Town..." is there something to be said about Mercury's recent choices?

Stuck :(
Pretty sure this will do fine though, most of the album is quite radio-friendly.

I see this doing I k but not near as well as his last single. I just feel he lost some momentum with how long the last one took.

He had a single that's sold nearly 700k will eventually sell 1 million and he's got an even more radio-friendly follow-up. He's the opposite of someone who has lost momentum!

But you have to look on the flip side of things Canaan's album sold awfully it's already out of the Top 25. I want Canaan to do well he seems like a nice guy. I mean come on he wrote Runaway by Love & Theft one of my Top 100 favorite songs.

I didn't fall asleep half way through this, so it's automatically better than his last single. I don't really expect this to be a hit, Canaan doesn't strike me as someone with real staying power, but I think I actually like this. The song probably would've stood a better chance at radio 5 years ago, but I appreciate the lack of hip hop influence and seemingly genuine attempt at making it country.

Billboard (I think) article recently said something similar, basically saying he was gonna get dropped but they respected his work ethic and decided to give him a second shot. I love "Stuck" and "One of Those" (and of course "Bronco" - A SCOOTER CARUSOE COWRITE) but I agree that this is a solid follow-up. mus1cr0w - I dunno if I'd consider "Love You Like That" a ballad, if that's indeed what you were referring to

LOL, yeah, I had been wondering for days (yeah, I know how to manage my time ;) ) about Love You Like That being a ballad...
I hope Stuck gets released next, cause it's the best song on the album. For me at least <3

"Love You Like That" is a total dud imo, but I heard "Bronco" on the radio today and absolutely loved it, so I figured I'd give his album a listen. It's by no means a bad record. I'll probably keep listening to it going forward to get a better feel for it overall. On first listen there were some songs I liked, some I didn't...and some I was indifferent to. "Hole In The Bottle" was one of the songs I really liked and it's definitely more interesting to me than LYLT. I definitely wouldn't mind hearing it on the radio.
"Bronco" seriously needs to get released though. That's a really good country song right there. Not sure radio would embrace it, but I'd still like to see his label go for it.

Well congrats Canaan. He's not my favorite newcomer but could be worse. Canaan's music does nothing for me but hey it doesn't make me change the dial.

So nice to hear he's doing well. I got over the fact Stuck was not the picked single, and have started to REALLY love Hole In a Bottle. It's better than Love You Like That, so it should do well... if all goes well. I'd love for this to become a number one.

I thought this had a very Kip Moore feel, and now I know why: it shares one of Kip's collaborators.
Very solid stuff. A lot more personality than the completely vanilla "Love You Like That".

Hole in a Bottle video. Guest stars Kristian Bush and Canaan's wife, Christy, along with a whole bunch of friends and fans.

I finally heard this on the radio today and I guess I'm going to be in the minority thus far, but I don't care for this. It's better than "Love You Like That" and I like the fact it attempts at having genuine country elements but that's where my compliments end. The vocal arrangement is so grating, especially that "Drink, my, way, out" lyric. I also hate that bridge -- there were some sort of backing vocals that I found unpleasant.

Ouch for Canaan Smith this week. It looks like Hole In A Bottle fell out of the MB Top 40. This was mainly due to the hot new releases of Luke Bryan & Karen Fairchid, Eric Church, and Chris Stapleton are all surging ahead hot off momentum. Canaan overall had a flat week as he only gained 14 spins and rather flat in audience gains as well.

Been hearing this a lot more on the radio in the past few days (WIRK, WAVW, WPHR), so maybe this will finally start taking off.

This has been out for a long time. I wonder if we're gonna have a long charting time with this until it peaks just like LYLT. If it were up to me, I would have moved on to the next single.

Not to be mean but it's a good thing you're not in charge, lol. :) They're not close to being done promoting this one. The sky is blue. Grass is green. Chart climbs for newer artists take forever and a day on 2016 Country radio.

LOL I know It seems I constantly post about how slow chart runs are for songs in country radio. But I realize this can still rebound (or finally start moving up).

"Hole In A Bottle" seems to be doing a little better than "Love You Like That" was doing. At the same point in the chart run, LYLT was at #43 on Mediabase with a little over 800 spins, whereas HIAB is currently at #38 with a little over 1000 spins. If LYLT can go all the way to #1, I don't see why HIAB can't. I know country radio doesn't exactly work like that though, lol.

I really want this one to do well. I love it! It's really catchy, but doesn't sacrifice a well-structured melody and sensible production in order to be an earworm. The vocal arrangement is so grating, especially that "Drink, my, way, out" lyric. I was actually just going to say that that is my favorite part lol

If LYLT can go all the way to #1, I don't see why HIAB can't. I know country radio doesn't exactly work like that though, lol. The big difference is that "Love You Like That" sold incredibly well out of the gate (thanks in large part to substantial airplay from SiriusXM), and continued to do so for many weeks before it finally started to take off at terrestrial radio. LYLT spent a lot of time in the top 200 on the iTunes all-genre chart and even then it took a long time before radio got on board. "Hole In A Bottle", on the other hand, isn't even in the top 1500 on iTunes. No one seems to even be aware that this is a radio single. And of course it doesn't help that Canaan's album has sold next to nothing (its total sales are probably somewhere around 30,000, which is an awful number). I really like this song (it's one of my favorites right now), but I totally understand why it's off to a slow start, and I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't do much. In fact, in the "2016 predictions" thread, I predicted that Canaan would see a slow climb to the top 20 and that Mercury wouldn't release another single. Top 20 might be too optimistic... However, with that said, there's still time for this one to take off. I probably wouldn't bet on it, but you never know...there have been many songs that sounded like surefire hits to me and didn't do anything, and then there are some songs that turn in to really big hits and leave me thinking "WTF?" PS: Like Ten Pound Hammer said up-thread, everything about this song feels very "Kip Moore" to me. I can totally imagine Kip turning in a kick-ass rendition of this song. The lyrics, production...it all sounds very Kip-ish to me.

Canaan Smith "Hole In A Bottle" ends this week at #30 on MB so Canaan will be receiving American Country Countdown and CCUSA spins in the coming weeks.
I am not quite sure how much longer this can go given the sales (or lack thereof) but Canaan Smith is a new artist so the chart run I think will last probably until it hits Top 20 or 15 if those sales don't improve. Of course I could see "Hole In A Bottle" being one of the songs that makes a push for the Top 10 and then drop (Country Nation, Run Away With You, Already Calling You Mine, Like A Wrecking Ball, and what appears to be Little Bit Of You). Point being that unless the digital sales improve I'm not sure how much longer this song will last.

This song hasn't done much to move the needle all that much as Canaan is selling worse than almost all other songs in the Top 30 with the exception of Big & Rich "Loving Lately" and William Michael Morgan "I Met A Girl".
This week has been kind to "Hole In A Bottle" however as Canaan has gained 120 spins so far this week which is definitely not bad at all. Canaan Smith has also gained 637k in audience as well this week.
I'm just surprised that the label is still pushing this song as this week will mark week 38 for this one. I don't even think some of the marathon chart runs we've seen before ("Little Bit Of You" "Run Away With You" "I Got The Boy" "Already Calling You Mine" "I Love This Life" "Love You Like That") had racked up that many weeks (in this case 38) when they were around the 24-26 range so I wonder just how much longer the label will stick with this song.
