First post here, but I've been lurking for a couple months. Always tried to get my country music news fix on Twitter regarding new singles and all, and stumbled across Pulse. Needless to say, I've been hooked. Thanks for approving my account.
Anyway, after listening to the title track this morning that was just released on iTunes, I can't help but think that would have made a better second single. I like "Strip It Down," but I just think the title track is more radio friendly. But the two have similar themes and I'm not sure they should release both due to that.

Good to have you around. I find that this song is standing up the best of the four I have heard so far, the new single would be a sure fire radio hit in this current climate (though he could release a recording of him reading the phone book and it'd probably blow up right now).

Hmm, this isn't as bad I expected it to be. I think the chorus is kinda catchy even though there's not much country about it. But the lyrics are pretty cringeworthy and it's still aggravating to see Luke release this kind of song when we know he's capable of recording quality country material.
At least I like this a lot more than "Kick The Dust Up". This is gonna be a bigger hit than KTDU too.

Thanks for approving my account. That was me :) You're welcome! And welcome to Pulse! I agree with those that say "Strip It Down" is pretty underwhelming, but at least it's a few steps up from "Kick The Dust Up". I'm intrigued to hear the album -- not based on the 2 singles, but based on what we've heard about some of the tracks. I don't consider myself much of a Luke Bryan fan, but I do own his first 3 albums.

Ok hello everyone I'm so glad to be here on pulse Anyways Luke I loved his first two albums but after tailgates & tanlines and crash my party I just don't know. I mean this single better than kick the dust up but its too similar to other country songs by maleswith the same message. I just want Luke to be a better artist, and go back to the Luke that started and made us fans before and after. He has a great voice, just needs the right material. I hope the rest of kill the lights has that! Come on Luke you know can do better than these bro country party stuff

101.7 the bull in Boston are playing "Kill the Lights" all the way through and it can be listened to on the IHeartRadio app.
Also, 102.5 country in Boston is playing specific tracks from the album and there's an app in the App Store for their station.

This is easier to listen to than "Kick the Dust Up" (which probably forever and always is intolerable to even listen to), so that's a step in the right direction I guess. I suppose this has a good late summer vibe to it, and considering we're in a heat wave here in Austin with no end in sight I'd be stripping it down as well.
For the most part I found Crash My Party an enjoyable listen from beginning to end, so with that said I'll be waiting to hear this entire album before giving it a full thumbs down with just two songs.

Not sure if they'll even publish an adds date for this, but it'll basically be the 10th, as this should easily get at least 70-80 adds on Monday, if not more. All the advertisements that UMG/Capitol have put out so far simply say "immediate airplay", and of course this is already top 50 on Mediabase after just a couple of days.
I'm thinking a top 30 debut on Billboard is very likely. It's already up to 5 million on Mediabase, this after it wasn't even on Monday's Billboard chart, when the #60 song had just over 600k. Luke did get a little bit of unsolicited airplay last week, but we know he wasn't above 238k otherwise he would have been listed in the New & Active section. So we can conclude that "Strip It Down" has probably gained at least 4.6 to 4.8 million on Mediabase since Monday morning...and so on Billboard I think Luke will easily be able to land in that big gap between Chris Young and Jana Kramer. Chris was #28 on Monday with 10.5 million, and Jana was #29 with 6.85 million. Luke shouldn't have any trouble clearing Jana's total before the week is over.
Even though Tim McGraw's "Top Of The World" got an iHeartRadio deal, I'm thinking Luke will debut ahead of him.

"Kill The Lights" (CD track) is now available on iTunes. Another song that has parts that sound like "Another One Bites The Dust". I was having the same thoughts too.

Not to be a party pooper, but singles discussions should probably go in the Listening Party thread here. :)

Wasn't big on this one first, and it'll never be my favorite of his, but the melody is pretty infectious in the chorus. Overall it sounds country too, so I'm fine with this being the second single. I think it will really explode once he performs somewhere.

Is thus a iHeart Media debut or is this a regular climb this week.
After hearing this song a few times it just feels like it's trying to be Come A Little Closer but doesn't have that emotional punch that Dierks had. The other part feels like a production similar to Burning It Down just a little more Adult Contemporary. Overall just not a good song.

"Strip It Down" is the most added song on MB this week with 85 adds (111 total monitored stations).

I'm not too sure how I feel about this. Granted, I've only heard it a couple of times, but so far I'm not loving it, and it's probably my least favourite single of his since "Country Girl (Shake It For Me)". I hope that it will grow on me over time, since I do like a lot of his stuff.

This song is definitely better than "Kick The Dust Up" and I will not go out of my way to turn the station when it comes on like I did with the lead single, but this song is just, boring. I've heard it a few times already on the radio and I find the melody and feel so unmemorable. I like Luke's vocals on the song but that's about it.

I think the melody flows very well and I like the lighter delivery Luke gives. There are a few nice details in the lyrics too.

This one has grown on me immensely. It won't be anywhere near my favorite singles by him, but it's much better than "Kick The Dust Up", which didn't hold up well for me. I like the piano in this one and it has a nice groove.

This one is starting to grow on me the more I hear it on the radio. I absolutely hated it at first but now I don't feel urge to change the station when it comes on, plus it sounds good as we head into the fall/winter months.

This is basically "Burnin' It Down Part 2;" that said, I can't lie, I like both songs. And this is melodically very nice. It's not really a style I want to become widespread in country music, but I can put it into perspective and enjoy the songs for what they are.

Luke's stuff moves up the charts almost too fast. "Kick the Dust Up" still feels brand-new and this is already at #16. Instead of "power up for #1" his BBCU ads should say "Prepare ship for ludicrous speed".
I like the lighter vocal touch and the melody on this one. The lyrics aren't anything amazing, but the sound alone makes it markedly different, especially by Luke Bryan's low standards. Definitely a breath of fresh air that hasn't had any dust kicked up into it.

It's ridiculous how fast his songs move up the chart. 12 weeks and done then on to the next single. He pumped out six singles from Crash My Party, so I imagine he can accomplish at least that for the Kill The Lights era. I wouldn't put seven singles out of the question for how fast his stuff moves up the chart because he is the biggest act in country right now and the most popular artist without a doubt. I talk to people who don't really like country but they know of and will listen to Luke Bryan. He has such a big appeal. Anything he puts out is pretty much an automatic #1.

This one isn't clicking for me. I feel like Luke was trying to do Dierks Bentley Come A Little Closer type song. But the production makes it sound like a rip-off of Burnin' It Down. Also that annoying drum loop! This song could've been decent no drum loop add more country to it. Oh and a better vocal performance. Also the way he says that Blue Jeans line is so weird and cringe inducing.

This reminds me of the Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Singles charts in the late 1980s/early 1990s, where big pop acts would have a new single on the chart every three months (12-13 weeks).
Madonna's Like A Prayer era is a good example. Here are the US release dates for the 5 singles from that album, plus Vogue:
Like A Prayer - 3/3/1989 #1 Express Yourself - 5/9/1989 #2 Cherish - 8/1/1989 #2 Oh Father - 10/24/1989 #20 Keep It Together - 1/30/1990 #8 Vogue - 3/20/1990 #1
All 5 Like A Prayer singles were released within a 12-month period, which in retrospect seems ridiculously fast, but I guess the goal was always having a single in the Top 40 to push album sales.
Regarding Luke Bryan and Kill The Lights, I wouldn't be surprised if "Strip It Down" peaks by mid-October and he debuts the third single at the CMAs in early November. If this pace holds, he could easily be on the fifth single by the time Kill The Lights is only one year old.

Garth Brooks sent four of his five singles from No Fences to #1 during an eight month time period between October, 1990 to June, 1991. Wild Horses was released in late 2000.

"Strip It Down" is two spaces higher (#13) and has 2.0 million more in total audience at the 4 week mark right now vs. "Kick The Dust Up's" first four weeks charting.
