@ people calling Top 3 "underperforming" Well, in a lot of Carrie's fans eyes it is. That is why we have the perennial freak-outs every time her songs might not get to #1. Bring on "Heartbeat!"

If Carrie wasn't in the equation, they probably would continue for the MB #1, but like the other poster said, they will have to be content with a BB only #1 and then Carrie should take both charts next weekend.

@ people calling Top 3 "underperforming" Underperforming does not equal flop. I think it's valid to say that as a lead single this has underperformed relative to other lead singles from Carrie. But as others have said, that still outperforms most other artists and certainly other females.

If Chris doesn't get to #1 this week, will they push him next week? Or will they shift their attention to Carrie? Hoping and praying he gets there, because if he doesn't I doubt they'd switch to Carrie when he's the one with the new album to promote... smh.

Not sure...Chris has already lost the Mediabase #1 (Cole got that). We should probably have a better idea tomorrow, when the Billboard chart is released.

The good news for Carrie Underwood is that if my estimations hold true for Billboard Chris Young will easily get the BB #1. But Cole has the MB #1 secured. Chris also hosts CCUSA which those spins this time next week if Sony wanted to could help him get that second week at the top. So the question remains. Is Chris Young satisfied with a BB only #1 the first since Eli Young Band Drunk Last Night. Or do they hold Carrie Underwood back one more week so Chris can secure the top on both charts. What helps Carrie Underwood is that Dan + Shay really haven't seen too big of gains and Carrie looks to have increased her lead on them. But Carrie has spent a long time in the Top 5 and she has to make her move torwards the top sooner than later. This week will be crucial for Carrie to get her BB #1.

Because as I am typing this, just checked Billboard's latest RTT and it shows the following: Cole is tracking again now for #1 for tomorrow's Billboard Country Airplay chart. This does not update on Mondays but the rest of the week it does. I will say it's going to be close for both Cole/Chris for Billboard. The problem Chris Young has now is that they already put out the max spins ad for Country Aircheck and that you can obviously tell that they pushed him this week, basically threw everything, including the kitchen sink at getting him #1 on both charts. It looks like at least he got the BB #1 and they need to be satisfied with that because Chris literally has no room to grow, as they already pushed him to the max, and the fact that Carrie was posting small gains in the beginning of the week and now is starting to distance herself from Dan + Shay and Blake is another indicator to me that they are going to be pushing Carrie starting Monday, because the problem is that the next two up for pushes to #1 are both Warner artists and thus Carrie would have no support to protect them from doing a massive push of their own. Chris's song is much older and I think has reached its peak, and so has Carrie's, especially with them announcing Heartbeat as the next single. It's #1 or bust for Carrie and they cannot afford to waste time getting that MB #1 for Chris, while possibly sacrificing Carrie and keeping her from getting #1 on either chart.

Just from Carrie Underwood studio albums, all of her lead singles have hit #1. I want that to continue with Storyteller and its lead single, Smoke Break.

Carrie has already had to wait two weeks and I don't think they can contain her much longer.

Yeah, them announcing Heartbeat already pretty much gives Carrie this upcoming week to hit #1, because some stations are already putting Heartbeat into rotation. They should've waited at least until SB peaked.

Announcing a second single before this has peaked doesn't mean shit. Radio stations aren't going to just drop this because of that anymore than they do for plenty of other artists who make it known what's coming next early.

It was the world's worst-kept that "Blown Away" was going to follow up "Good Girl", and that was figured out in the first week of May when she started performing it on other platforms including Idol, the Billboard Music Awards, etc. That was all over a month before GG's #1 peak. As Nick said, them just now announcing HB as the follow-up to SB is not going to make for any issue.

Well, they technically haven't announced "Heartbeat" as the next single in America yet - Carrie only mentioned it on a British TV show, I believe. I don't think that announcement will hurt "Smoke Break" yet, but I do believe "Smoke Break" only has about a week left before it starts to drop on the charts.

I guess Chris got the BB #1 and Cole got the MB #1, so the question is, will they both start dropping? Because I can already tell based on MB numbers that the push for Carrie has started. She's gained 2 million AI in the last two days on MB, so I guess we will see if Chris and Cole will start dropping. Cole for sure, I think is done. You can only sustain for so long before you drop.

The extra spin for "Smoke Break" that came with Carrie co-hosting Country Countdown USA this past weekend was of a live version (from CMT Instant Jam), so that extra spin did count on Mediabase and won't count on Billboard. I would be surprised if "I'm Comin' Over" were done without gaining a Mediabase #1, and if I had to guess, I don't think that "Smoke Break" will make up the audience gap with "I'm Comin' Over" on Billboard this coming week. But "Smoke Break" won't contend with a lost countdown spin this weekend if Arista Nashville chooses to keep up the push through the end of the Billboard week rather than through the end of the Mediabase week (because the extra spin didn't count on Billboard this week, anyway). A Mediabase #1 for "Smoke Break" seems within reach at the moment, and hopefully it can at least make a #2 peak at Billboard.
"Smoke Break" topped both the Billboard Country Indicator and Country Aircheck Activator charts last week (ahead of Chris Young and Old Dominion), which once again points to Sony Nashville's meddling being at issue if "Smoke Break" isn't a two-chart #1. A matter of routine by now, and I would be more annoyed if "Smoke Break" were showing "Something in the Water"-like impact. Still, a good chart run for a song that represented a shift in sound from Carrie's singles over the past five years (though less so in the context of her overall catalog), and a song with a refreshing lyrical focus on working adults that country radio had mostly deserted of late in its flood of empty escapism.

Seeing how both Chris and Carrie are label mates, wouldn't it make more sense for Sony to manipulate the charts so Chris secures the #1 on MB by getting some overnight spins, and let Carrie explode for daytime audience gains so she can capture the Billboard only #1? This would then all but guarantee Carrie gets a 2nd week at Billboard when she goes for MB only #1 the following week. Just seems like a better way to ration their resources so both are winners IMO.

I'm tired of this. Like Carrie is always the one getting the shaft when it comes to her and her male label mates hitting #1. This song had a clear path for #1 a couple of times, but no. Carrie is always sacrificed in favor of men. This is why the country genre is crap now. From the awards shows to the charts, it's all political. I'm honestly ashamed to be a country music fan. At least let Carrie get a BB #1 or something, end her drought or something. Sorry, just very annoyed with the double standard.

They are definitely putting their effort behind Carrie this week, there's an ad saying "Max spins for #1 now" on the front page of Country Aircheck for Carrie... Definitely looks like Carrie has a decent shot at #1 on both charts as of now. My fingers a crossed! Sales weren't huge, but having a #1 single to boast about is a huge benefit when promoting a new album... Hoping she gets both!

^ I would really love to be a fly on the wall at Sony Nashville so I knew what Sony had planned. The problem I'm having is that I'm quickly losing trust in Sony in regards to Carrie. I just pray that now Chris got some sort of #1, that they can at least get Carrie a BB #1 and maybe have her and Chris split. I've calmed down enough to tell myself to wait for the updates in the next 6 days before I jump to conclusions

It does look at this point that they're content with Chris' #1 and now they're shifting their attention to Carrie. The next couple of updates will paint a much clearer picture, but things are looking good for Carrie at the moment.

I think we should be just grateful for every spin that Carrie gets. I looked at the country radio chart earlier today and well ... Carrie sticks out like a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day.

In its 12th week on the Hot 100, this rises to #46 on the Hot 100.

What's the difference between getting #1 on Mediabase and Billboard? They're two different charts. Mediabase is points based, whereas Billboard is purely audience based. Labels will call their respective singles a #1 if it claims the top spot on either chart.

I think we're going to see a split for the top of the charts this week. I think Carrie will get the BB #1 but Chris Young will get the MB #1. Chris is still gaining but I think Sony has a plan to make sure Carrie Underwood is right behind Chris then come Monday Chris starts dropping and Carrie takes the BB #1.
