In an interview with Taste Of Country, Rhett revealed the song written in honor of his wife will be the next single. tasteofcountry.com/thomas-rhett-tangled-up-jordin-sparks-wife-lauren-songs/Writers: Thomas Rhett, Sean Douglas, Joe Spargur Add Date: September 28th Here's an excerpt about the song recently in a Rolling Stone Article ( www.rollingstone.com/music/features/thomas-rhett-previews-progressive-new-album-tangled-up-20150803?page=2 ): "In fact, one of the album's standout tracks is a subdued, straight-up country love song, one that Rhett says may be the best he's ever written. Featuring a delicate, grooving guitar part and some of his most passionate vocals to date, he wrote "Die a Happy Man" about his wife. " "I've been somewhat getting crap my entire career from my wife saying, 'When are you going to write a sweet song about me and put it on a record?'" he says. "It kinda makes you feel a little terrible as a husband, but she has been asking me for a long time to write a 'Just to See You Smile' by Tim McGraw type song. So that is the most honest song I've ever written about my wife. It really replicates our relationship with each other and our love for each other, so I think it will be really fun and exciting for people to see that side of me, because I've never really done that before."

Hallelujah! Hopefully the production turns out good on this one (the less the better, please, Thomas). Will probably be his best single since "Beer With Jesus" (unless you're a pop fan).

"Crash and Burn" really grew on me quick. Putting the whole what genre it is aside it's a really good and catchy song but as country it's obviously not it at all. It's pretty much a motown song being played on country radio. If this song turns out to be super country that'd be excellent and such a game changer. From what I've read about the album it might be one of if not the only true country songs.

Ahhhh new single! I am a fan, and I am sure I will love it. Still, hope Crash And Burn still manages to peak at number 1 in the country charts

I am so hot and cold on Thomas Rhett-probably because I don't think he has a particularly good voice that sounds good on almost anything, like Dierks Bentley or David Nail.
And because of his material of course......absolutely hated the epitome of Bro Country 'Get Me Some of That' (because of lyrics, even though I appreciated the melody), thought the Love Boat inspired 'Make Me Wanna' was corny, as was Something to do with my Hands.
But I loved Beer With Jesus, would have liked Make Me Wanna if it wasn't so overplayed and I have to admit Crash and Burn is catchy, different and has grown on me.
So I am excited to hear this 'subdued, straight up country song' since his best was Beer with Jesus, IMO for content and country identity.

I love that his voice is very distinguished. Sounds like his dad quite a bit actually.

Thomas Rhett sounds a lot more ambitious than his father. Rhett Akins is 40 and sill wants to write about girls in bikinis yet his son is trying at least some new and different things.

I'm curious to see the album sales for "Tangled Up". He's fighting an uphill battle because he's from the newer generation that's more single sale driven, but things are shaping up to be a huge era for Rhett. "Crash And Burn" has been a major success, and if this one turns out to be the romantic ballad it's capable of, I could see Rhett exploding. I already think he's destined for the A-list, but if he picks the right singles it could be sooner rather than later.

Still, Rhett Akins seems stuck in bro mode, and while the younger Rhett sometimes cranks out bro-material like, well, "Girls in Bikinis", the younger also seems to be aiming a little higher in general.

I'm always up for hearing new Thomas Rhett. I've loved many of his singles so far. Interested to hear what this one is like.

He's already got more #1 singles than his dad but that wasn't hard to accomplish considering his dad's only #1 single was "Don't Get Me Started". I wish he'd do like Brett Eldredge and Kip Moore and release singles from the album up to the release date. Speaking of them two Kip's singles have been better by far.

"Crash and Burn" doesn't officially go #1 until the 13th and 14th, so they're not wasting anytime, lol.

Wouldn't surprise me if it got a mini-iHeart radio deal. I would suspect that too but honestly, I really don't think they're all that helpful. I understand the premise behind them but a standard release for someone with Thomas' momentum would suffice.

Not to go off-subject here, but I think its safe to say Thomas Rhett has superseded Luke Bryan at the top of the most polarizing artist. Anyone heard "I Feel Good" on itunes today? Good god ol'mighty. Coupled with "Crash and Burn" and "Vacation" this sounds like a train wreck. In all honesty, he wouldn't make a bad pop star. And if he wants to do that, more power to him. Wish him all the success. But to keep labeling this "country", and to put it on the radio is honestly a slap to all of us serious fans of the genre. No other genre of music has worse of an identity crisis
It's bad enough I'm a Redskins fan, I mean C'mon! LOL (had to sneak that in, getting sic'd for football this weekend)

The most polarizing artist to me is Sam Hunt.

I would agree that Sam tops the list, followed by FGL, then Luke/Jason and that's probably where I'd put Thomas. That said, Thomas is tied for my most...unliked artist with FGL. I see literally nothing special about him, his voice is nearly as grating to my ears as Tyler's, and his music makes a mockery of country.

I agree Sam can be more polarizing but I feel like his polarization is quite different from FGL/Luke/Thomas though... in Sam's case, at least from my experience (including on this forum), it always felt like it has more to do with country fans not thinking his music is actually country. It's very common to read how people feel his songs don't belong on country radio, even if they like them or don't necessarily think they are bad songs. On FGL/Luke/Thomas' case, critiques I see are mostly aimed at the quality or content of their songs.

here's "I Feel Good" if anyone wants to hear it
I actually really like it, but man he really needs to just admit he's pop because it's so damn obvious at this point

The whole "he's pop and should admit it" point is a bit moot in today's mainstream country music radio is it not? It's gonna be a while before the dalliance with pop ends (if it ever does).

yeah to be fair most of the poppier songs he's released are technically promotional singles
still though, tbh most of the reason why I said that is that the new songs that I've heard don't have very much (if at all) country influence in them, whereas songs from people like sam hunt and stuff still have a slight country element to it, so it makes a bit more sense to play them
now tbh I don't care that much for the "wah country music shouldn't be playing poppy songs" argument that much either since it's annoying how often it comes up and honestly I don't give a toss, but honestly there's a bit a limit to how pop it can get without me going "yeah this is kind of weird"
anyways though I'm tired so I'll stop

I severely doubt the new one with Lunchmoney Lewis will get a country release. We already know this single is supposed to be the countriest sounding on the album, and "T-Shirt" sounds like a good 3rd single, not too poppy with some clear country sounds in it.

Whether it's Country or not, I find "I Feel Good" to be infectious, it's so catchy and happy it's hard to get out of your head.

Thanks lyhom! @xfer, if you want to hear "I Feel Good," the "instant grat" video is uploaded to Thomas' YouTube account. I don't see "I Feel Good" getting a country release since it's actually got a hip hop artist featured on it, but I still expect some pop-leaning songs to get released this era. "T-Shirt" will easily get a release, and "Vacation" would make a good summertime hit, although I do worry a song like "Vacation" could be held back by some bad research numbers like we are seeing with Jake Owen's "Real Life." Anyway, I'm honestly a bit concerned about this being a single. It seems like Thomas wanted this to get a radio push and it's a decent song, but it's not really what radio looks for these days. Thomas' success has always come from up-tempo radio fodder. I'm interested to see how the single turns out. If we get something with really stripped down, country production this may have a harder time at radio. "T-Shirt" would have been an easier sell for a second single.
