Rock this quiet, little country town

Our own enfant terrible has come to his senses, after all. Good on him! :) This is actually very good; not outstanding but pretty solid for an artist aimed to replace the current superstar generation. I'm pretty amazed that the instrumentation is really back-to-country and the lyrics are not too bad, either. Still a "safe" pop song destined to the very top. I must admit that I like it... Aeons better than his prior two deliveries (not a big effort you'll say... ;) ). Have not listened to the other songs, yet.

This song was disappointing to me the first several listens, but I'm warming up to it. I'd say there are like 2 other country songs in the album, the rest are, well, not country lol As I am loving this more and more, I am glad to see the positive response it is getting from many of you guys who usually dismiss him. Even if his next single will be hated by all, then at least we can say he had a song you all liked

Is it just me or this sounds like a rejected demo of Thinking Out Loud?

#8 iTunes all-genre!
As soon as I heard this, I knew it would be a game-changer for him. It's gonna end up being his biggest hit and one of the biggest country hits in the last few years. Also, there's definitely some crossover potential, but it might be too similar to "Thinking Out Loud" to have cross-genre success.

^Right, I doubt this will be a crossover hit because, going back to the argument Dudley made in the thread for "Live Forever," why would pop radio want to play a knock-off of "Thinking Out Loud" when they already have the real thing? Don't get me wrong...I do like this song, but I'd have preferred some of the other songs on Thomas' new record be released as singles since they're more uniquely his style ("T-Shirt," "Vacation," "Playing with Fire"). But this will definitely be a massive hit for country.

In terms of weeks at #1, it will have to be a four weeker because Thomas Rhett's first, It Goes Like This was a three week #1 in 2013.

I heard this today... And was bored. I'm tired of these songs being pushed to country radio when they just sound like tired rehashes of pop hits (see also: Live Forever). Literally I find there to be nothing new or fresh about Thomas Rhett, and his vocals are almost as bad as Tyler Hubbard's for me. I just can't.

My view has changed as well with this song. It's decent, but it's SOOO much like "Thinking Out Loud". I mean, this is what, his third song where he's ripped off another act? (The others being "Crash & Burn", and "Vacation"). I don't dislike it, but it's not the masterpiece I thought it was when I first heard it.

This is unquestionably his best single to0 date by miles, and with the 2016 Mediabase chart year beginning 4 weeks from this Sunday on November 8th, this will undoubtedly be one of 2016's VERY biggest singles.
Suffice it to say that this is a mortal-lock #1 single, and multiple weeks atop both charts are a distinct possibility.

This has gotta be the front-runner for 2016 ACM Single of the Year/Song of the Year!! The sales domination (and soon-to-be airplay domination) will be phenomenal.

I love all this talk about this song being a future big hit. You know better than me, but I am very looking forward to Thommy becoming an A-lister! I hope it happens this era!

I must say, I am so distracted by his breathing in this song... Especially in the first 1/3, when it is soft leading into the first chorus...
Other than that, this is by far my favorite song from Thomas! I don't think I will get tired of hearing this one when it inevitably becomes a huge hit.

After a few listens, I gotta say if it wasn't for the lyrics (they are bit cheesy and bland to me) this would be my favorite song by him... i quite like how this sounds.

Whoa, talk about a blockbuster hit! Not only has this song remained consistently in the top 10 of iTunes all-genre or just outside of it for weeks, it is now #5! I've rarely seen a country song that high especially non-lead singles in non-launch weeks.

"Die a Happy Man" is such a great song. Thomas picked the right single as the second one. I think after this song has peaked, he should release "Playing With Fire" (the duet with Jordin Sparks).

Bro-Country is alive and well! #2 and #5 on all-genre chart from the bros!!
2. Kane Brown - Used to Love You Sober 5. Thomas Rhett - Die a Happy Man
Both bro country stars are ahead of Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, One Direction, etc. Spectacular!

Thomas Rhett - Die a Happy Man Both bro country stars are ahead of Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, One Direction, etc. Spectacular! Considering that this song is literally 0% bro, and I have never even heard of Kane Brown, I am not convinced that bro country is having any sort of victory whatsoever... However, the fact that COUNTRY songs are ahead of those other huge stars you mentioned is indeed quite spectacular! On an unrelated note, who the heck is Kane Brown, and why is his song selling so well? He isn't even popular enough to have a Wikipedia page yet, and I can find no information about him previously having any kind of hit whatsoever... It is really cool that his song is selling so well, considering how little information I can find about him! He must be doing something right! And the song actually sounds quite good based on the preview!

Okay, I did a little more research. Here is a good article explaining who Kane Smith is. Apparently he is an internet sensation, who has really exploded in the last couple weeks. He is still unsigned, which explains why I had never heard of him. But with the sales he is seeing so far with his new song, it will be interesting to see how quickly a label snatches him up! Anyway, back to Thomas Rhett. I don't mean to derail the whole thread any longer.

It's amazing that now any song featuring a male singing about a female is labeled "bro" without giving any regard to lyricism, instrumentation, or musical structure.

You can change that actually. It will not matter in 10 years what kind of country artist Thomas Rhett was, it will only matter what kind of country artist he will be 10 years from now.

What he did with his music in the past won't matter a whole bunch in the future. Also I don't think there's any rule about that.

He will only be looked down upon. I know this is hard for you to grasp, but he does have fans that actually like his music.
