I do like "Die a Happy Man". I'm not a huge fan of his R&B style songs but I do like his duet song "Playing With Fire"(with Jordin Sparks).

i've never seen callouts so good for a song before. Yeah, the Mediabase call-out research is off the charts for this one. "Die A Happy Man" is already up to the second most popular score (behind only "I'm Comin' Over"). It's currently testing as the highest favorite with 27.6%. It has a total positive of 81%, with a 77% net positive, and the most incredible numbers are the fact it has the lowest burn rate with under 1% (no, seriously), it has unreal potential (103) and its total negative is just 3.4%. For a song that was just released five or so weeks ago, that's incredible. It's of course the #1 selling country single at the moment and its #10 on the all-genre chart. If you throw in Thomas' momentum, then that all adds up to an absolutely huge hit. This will likely end up being one of the biggest hits in 2015 or 2016.

I'm actually really surprised people love this song so much... It's such an "inoffensive" song to me, like the sort of song that people wouldn't either love or hate. LOL
Good for Thomas, I guess. Let's hope this encourages him to ditch the r&b-pop influences and start pursuing a sound that goes better with him and his voice.

I don't see this song being as huge as most everyone else thinks. It's a strong effort, but I think Crash & Burn was a bit catchier.

I don't see this song being as huge as most everyone else thinks. It's a strong effort, but I think Crash & Burn was a bit catchier. Most are saying it's huge based off of public reaction to it, and not their own opinion of the song. The callout scores are nearly flawless as mentioned above, and it's been selling steady around the top 10 all-genre of iTunes, making this easily one of the biggest songs of the year. Add in the fact it's blowing up on radio and it's make this tune an even bigger hit. Not sure what your definition of a huge song is, but you must have some pretty high standards lol.

I really like the song too, although I don't think Thomas has a particularly great voice and someone else could sing it just as well. Lyrics also- nothing groundbreaking.
But I wonder if the huge response is that people are hungering for a song like this on country radio-simple stripped production, sung with meaning and no Bro lyrics. There are plenty of good songs that have been composed but just don't see the light of day because radio doesn't play. Because of Rhett's star power radio is helping it be heard.
It will be an obvious #1

This is a decent effort by Thomas, and I'll admit that "Crash and Burn" was a catchy and guilty pleasure of mine. But, there is one thing I can't get past with this song and I know it has been mentioned before...isn't this just a blatant rip-off of Ed Sheeran's "Thinking Out Loud?" Being a fan of Ed and that song I just can't listen to this without thinking "Wow, way to rip off an already popular song" ergo I hear no originality with this. That alone makes me even more critical of this song.

I can't pinpoint what it is, but even on this more traditional-sounding offering, Thomas is just really annoying me. Everything about his music just seems really fake to me. The production here is fine (it actually sounds quite nice), but I don't like the lyrics at all. That said, this one is shaping up to be one of the biggest hits in quite some time, perhaps only rivaled (when factoring in airplay, sales, and streaming) by "Take Your Time". "Die A Happy Man" is back into the all-genre top 10 on iTunes, and this song has already been certified Gold by the RIAA.
From Country Aircheck Today (11/19):
The RIAA has issued gold certification for Thomas Rhett's "Die A Happy Man," the second single from his sophomore Valory album Tangled Up.

^ I agree that this is the best production Thomas had had on a single in a while but I just find this song so utterly boring. I've never been a fan of his vocals and the lyrics in this song don't do enough for me not to change the station from boredom.

I'd like this a lot more if it weren't a blatant ripoff of "Thinking Out Loud". I mean good lord, there's 3 songs on his new album that are ripoffs of other artists, and yet he only credits one (that one being "Vacation"). It's not that this song is bad, it's just that Thomas lacks so much originality.

Finally heard this on the radio for the first time and I.... didn't hate it. This is his second tolerable single to me (after "Beer with Jesus"). I still couldn't help listening to this and thinking of all the ways that it could've been better (like prominent steel guitar in the production, better vocalist, etc., lol), but at least it beats his usual schlock so I'll take it.

When he played this at the CMT tour show I think that's the loudest I've heard so many girls scream since the last time Hunter was here, lol.

This is another one that feels like the local stations are barely playing it at all. I think I've heard it maybe 5 times total. Weird.
I could bash it as being "white guy with guitar" music, but somehow I find that it connects better than I would've thought, even if I can hear the Ed Sheeran in it. Granted, I've never had a problem with TR, and I like that his last few singles have had a different sound to them.

This is absolutely flying up the charts. It moves 9-5* in its 11th week, and is the greatest gainer, picking nearly 5 million more in AI. This is turning out to be quite the career single (and possibly album?) for Thomas Rhett. It gets its 4th week at #1 on the combined chart, too.

This is turning out to be quite the career single (and possibly album?) for Thomas Rhett. It gets its 4th week at #1 on the combined chart, too. Yeah, this one is definitely flying. As I posted in the "Burning House" thread, I'm now starting to wonder if we could see Thomas surge ahead of Jason and get to #1 before Christmas (and thus hold Jason to a #2 peak). Thomas is exactly 800 spins behind Jason right now, and just under 4 million behind (MB audience), but DAHM increased by 174 spins and nearly 1.2 million in audience today alone. And Thomas' 7-day bullet is 1061 right now...if it stays over 1000 (or even in the 800 or 900 range) for the next 7 days, then Thomas would have close to 8000 total spins by this time next week (16th), which would still leave him a few more days (until the 20th/21st) to catch and pass Jason. I don't care for this song, but I would really like for it to keep Jason from #1. Jason's song has been a total non-event, whereas DAHM is a huge hit and deserves to be at #1 during the "holiday slowdown" period on the charts. So yeah, this one is definitely blazing through the top 10, but I'm sure it would get some extra top 10 weeks in January, as I imagine that this one will drop fairly slowly (hopefully after 3-4 weeks at #1). Thomas entered the MB top 10 back on November 21. Just for reference, here's a look at his daily gains since then: 11/22: +80 spins, +1.079 million (audience) 11/23: +32 spins, +0.588 mil 11/24: +60 spins, +0.522 mil 11/25: +41 spins, +0.134 mil 11/26: +41 spins, +0.183 mil 11/27: +0 spins, +0.100 mil 11/28: +82 spins, +0.462 mil 11/29: +6 spins, -0.309 mil 11/30: +45 spins, +0.186 mil 12/01: +73 spins, +0.751 mil 12/02: +143 spins, +1.108 mil 12/03: +179 spins, +1.148 mil 12/04: +170 spins, +1.081 mil 12/05: +100 spins, +0.830 mil 12/06: +125 spins, +1.254 mil 12/07: +143 spins, +0.760 mil 12/08: +170 spins, +0.751 mil 12/09: +174 spins, +1.187 mil Naturally he slowed down a bit around Thanksgiving (as did many other songs), but it's almost as if a switch was flipped as soon as we hit December, and this one's been in high gear ever since. Maybe I'm misreading things here, but I can practically imagine the Valory team sitting down on the last day of November or the 1st of December (or somewhere around there) and saying "Ok, we've got 3 weeks...let's get this to #1". Normally it's pretty hard for a song to follow up a big week with another big week, but that won't be a problem here. "Die A Happy Man" is still quite young, it's got a lot of room to grow yet, and it's selling incredibly well. I honestly don't think Valory is having to do all that much here. I mean, I'm sure they let radio know their intentions (we wanna be #1 by the 20th/21st), but for the most part I think these gains are just the result of radio going all-in on a song that they know is a huge hit. In other words, I don't think this is some sort of manipulative push on Valory's part.

Not too crazy about this song but it's one of his more tolerable songs, so if this were to block that auto-pilot re-hash of a song Jason Aldean has out right now, then I'm all for it. It certainly deserves multiple weeks at #1 based on the reception it's gotten... and Jason deserves none, honestly.

Jason's officially in trouble. "Die A Happy Man" gained a whopping 1043 spins and 6.0 million in total audience this week, while "Gonna Know We Were Here" gained 252 spins and just 1.1 million in total audience. Jason's lead on MB is just 284 spins and 1.0 million on MB and both songs should be extremely close in Billboard audience as of today. To me, Thomas will pass Jason by next Monday for the Billboard #1 and even the MB #1 is in jeopardy. Broken Bow has only one week left to get this to #1, whereas Thomas' should sit comfortably at #1 through the holidays. This is partly due to Valory's promotion staff laying the hammer down to get this to #1 before Christmas but the song is the best testing song of the year and its selling amazingly well right now (#7 on the all-genre chart), so this one clearly deserves a three week stay at the top.
Thomas will get the Billboard #1 next Monday, while perhaps Valory plays nice and let's Broken Bow have the MB #1. They could easily take both charts if they wanted though -- "Die A Happy Man" is doing that well.

He will be the 125th artist in history with at least five chart topping hits. Too bad his father, Rhett Akins could not have four more #1s in him so son could join father on the list.

Yeah but this is Broken Bow we are talking about. How can we assume that they won't do a massive push to get "Gonna Know We Were Here" to the top? I could easily see Rhett backing off this week and playing nice if Jason starts out the week with a mega gain.

Well, since most here prefer the Billboard chart, I see Thomas getting to #1 on Billboard while Jason takes MB. Broken Bow will put up "Power for #1" ads in Aircheck this week and Jason's song has room to grow, but sometimes you can't stop a monster hit like "Die A Happy Man." The way Thomas' song has been flying, I just can't see Valory not trying for at least the Billboard #1 this week. If this was the summer, then maybe they would wait one week for both charts but this has been the biggest hit of the year this far and we're running out of time before the freeze. It would be extremely unfortunate for Valory to pump the breaks right now. No way I would do that if I were them.
