I'm not a Macklemore fan by any means ... there's a million Hispanic rappers I'd take over him any day. I just get tired of people discrediting any and all white rappers simply for being white. Can't Hold Us is an excellent song. Period. Same Love on the other hand was an unbelievably awful piece of pandering garbage. I could never stan for somebody who emitted such a wack joint.
How's the extra "mass appeal" going for superb white rappers like Huey Mack and Mike Stud? Oh right, they don't have any hits. If anything, generic bland black rappers get special credit in genre ... being white is no ticket to popularity. If Silento were white, Watch Me would have about 15 hits on Youtube. Total.
Would Mike Jones have gone double platinum if he were a white kid from Vermont?

Additionally, everyone needs to stop with 'I like A more than B' therefore A is better than B.

I honestly can't wait for this song to come out so we can stop using this thread to debate and start actually talking about the song itself again.
Just saying. :|

They should've just pushed Growing Up. This is a mess.

Obviously mugging Uptown Funk, but that synth hook is from an 80s song and it's killing me to place it. Safety Dance maybe? Once it gets to the chorus(?) it's amazing. Otherwise, this is too disjointed. I think everyone did too much on them after the Grammy win. The Heist is/was a high-caliber pop album.

Curious to hear what the radio edit is like. Big fan of the chorus + the group rap parts that sound nothing like Macklemore (?) I suspect this will do quite well.
EDIT: this is on iTunes now. I know Bieber's single is out tomorrow, but it's very odd considering the tracking week runs Friday-Thursday now.

meh this could grow on me I could see this growing on me, but after my first listen on the local radio station I was quite underwhelmed by this. EDIT: this is on iTunes now. I know Bieber's single is out tomorrow, but it's very odd considering the tracking week runs Friday-Thursday now. I feel they released it today so they could get the hourly deal. Justin Bieber is having an hourly deal tomorrow.

Are they still working with Warner on distribution?

So the girl in the chorus is actually a guy, Eric Nally, the lead singer of the band Foxy Shazam.

Although it would've made more sense to release it last Friday instead - or even Monday of this week.

This is kind of a mess, but I can actually see it hitting. Whoever is singing the chorus channels Michael Jackson surprisingly well.

The song: It's horrible! A whole verse talking about buying mopeds? How can anyone honestly not see this dude as a novelty act. hate the retro bandwagoning as well (but that goes for everyone to be fair).
The video: Blatant copy of the videos for "Uptown Funk" and a bit of Kanye's "Touch The Sky" but it definitely has viral potential/rewatch value so good on them for being business savvy.

The video is great. I love that it focuses on humor rather than weave a type of message through. It was essential for Thrift Shop too. I also think that kind of BEP/Katy Perry deadbeat and cartoonish humor for that time does give them a similar constant novelty sheen, but as we've seen, that can be developed into a brand as well. For now, that is the one aspect from them that I'm mostly impressed by.

Assuming he's responsible for the general musical aspects and selection of featured artists, Ryan Lewis needs to fly this cuckoo's nest. He should be one of the most in-demand producers in the game. That chorus and the vocalist selection (as it was on The Heist) are PHENOMENAL.

Worst Macklemore song ever.. this song seems like 10 different song samples put together.. Watch this Debut high then flop every week after. Calling it...

The song is all over the place. WTF?
There are parts of it I like, and parts that I don't. The song with Ed Sheeran is boring as hell, but it was a much safer choice than this.

Horrible. The song is a mess, it just feels like they're trying too hard to make this a hit, which I guess, you can't blame them. Meh, everyone else will probably like it and it will do well (especially seeing how well Growing Up is doing on radio rn). Surprised they skipped on the Ed feature for the actual single.

This is trash. The only kind of redeemable part of the song is Eric Nally.
