Wow they aren't wasting any time.
Some of Mo's songs are so goofy (like this one) but they are so great and so real.
I'm shocked they picked this one over "Come Do a Little Life" which I feel would be much more conducive to at least a shimmer of radio hope for Mo.
That being said, if this gets to enough ears I could see it spreading like wildfire because it's unique (like Mo), a bit simple and engaging (like "Buy Me a Boat"), and its got the groove that everyone seems to be eating up right now.

Like I mentioned in the "Country" thread, Curb was going to send another song out to radio pretty soon (before year's end) and not only did they but they did so very fast. Curb is definitely not fooling around here with Mo. They had him do an exhausting radio tour and have going to try anything and everything to get his album out. Even if you don't like Curb, you gotta commend their relentlessness with trying to break Mo at radio.
I must say that I like all of the songs I heard from Mo but when I saw this thread, I immediately said "uh, that's not the choice I would have made." Most of his songs are straight from the 90's but the first line right off the bat might work against this song with PD's, "He's gross. She's got cooties." -- that's just not the stuff you hear on the radio right now, lol. Any song they put out would have an uphill battle at radio, but I'm not optimistic about "Boy And A Girl Thing." We'll see though; I originally said "Country" wouldn't make the top 40 and it did, so hopefully Curb can prove me wrong. This genre desperately needs artists like Mo, Mickey Guyton, Brothers Osborne and William Michael Morgan.

Curb really seems to be going about breaking in Mo the right way, but yet they're still Curb, and naturally they've chosen the wrong single. There's an undeniable charm to this song, so I still want to hear the finished studio product, but Come Do A Little Lift just seemed like such an obvious choice. Plenty of artists have broken out after failed lead singles (Canaan Smith, Kip Moore, Josh Turner, ect), and 2 failures doesn't automatically sink you (Brett Eldredge, Frankie Ballard, Eric Paslay are doing just fine). That gives Curb 2 more chances to break Mo out, I just hope they didn't waste one by releasing this.

I love every song I've heard from Mo so far and "Boy And A Girl Thing" might be my favorite. I'm not expecting this to do that much, but I pray this song does well enough to get his album out because I know I'll love it.

Wow, this song is amazing. I bet the studio version also sounds fantastic. I didn't think the label would shoot out another single THAT fast!

I didn't think the label would shoot out another single THAT fast! When the artist is new and still doing visits with radio stations, it's smart to get another single out as soon as possible to keep what momentum they have built up. I fully expected another single to be released rather quickly.

I was really surprised to see this thread when I got on Pulse today because even though Curb seemed to really be trying with Mo here, it wouldn't have been unusual at all for them to just sit on him for awhile and then finally try again. Glad that isn't happening here and that they're striking while the iron is hot. I will reserve judgment on the song 'til I hear the studio cut, but going off the acoustic version, I think I'll like this, but not as much as "Country." I'd love for it to be a hit and get the album out though. I'm really bummed that his debut single couldn't have hung in there because I think it's one of the absolute best debut offerings to radio from a male artist in the past few years, easily. I'm just grateful that at least one of my stations here spun it plenty so I got to hear "Country" a lot on the radio over the past few months.

Love the chorus to this!! The rest is good too, though. I'll have to hear the studio to fully know what I think of this.
"Country" was excellent in terms of melody and it's too bad it couldn't have done better, but I'm hoping this can do better for him. He deserves success and definitely deserves the chance to put out a full album.

I just can't get into this guy's music. He's so boring, and unappealing. His music just doesn't sound right on the radio sandwiched between current artists like FGL and Luke.

I understand that sometimes people can't get into country music or don't like actual country music being played on country radio (as the times have truly changed) but to call him boring and unappealing? This guy has the "it" factor that people of yesteryear like Keith Whitley had. The problem is his music doesn't fit the climate not that he doesn't have the appeal. Mo is of a time when country music was country music. I am glad Curb is, seemingly, going to try to appeal Mo to the masses come hell or high water. I like that.

Wait, so are Alan Jackson, George Strait, Kacey Musgraves, Sturgill Simpson, Ashley Monroe and Chris Stapleton boring?

I can't speak for anyone, but I find this song incredibly boring and I love most of the above artists. I didn't like "Country" either. I do like the song he has about his dog, but he has yet to impress me with his single choices so far. Someone can say they find someone boring and not have to justify it by answering if they find people similar to them are boring too. With that said, Mo reminds me NOTHING of George or AJ.

I think Mo sounds a lot like Randy Houser (without the big range) in his Anything Goes days...

Studio version is up, courtesy of All Access. I still wouldn't have chosen this as Mo's second single but my goodness is the studio version fantastic. The electric and steel guitar solo's in the bridge is bliss.

This is not as instant as "Country" for me, but I like this a lot. The studio cut is much, much better than the acoustic version. Not sure I see this doing better on radio than his debut single though I'd obviously love to be proven very wrong there. Good luck to Curb Records and Mo Pitney on this single's chart run. I just really wanna see his album at least get released.

I think the production on this actually gives it a chance on today's radio climate. Top 10? doubtful. Top 20-25? Legit chance.
Anyone know whose on backings? Her harmonizing with Mo is great.

This song is good but not as good as "Country" was. Where can I hear the studio version of this song? Also do we have an iTunes release date yet?

Mo Pitney had an interview with Nicole Piering of Nashville Gab. We don't have a date for his album drop yet but considering "Country" went recurrent and "Boy And A Girl Thing" doesn't go for adds for another week and a half, I doubt that his album gets released in late October. Perhaps Curb will see how the first few weeks of "Boy And A Girl Thing's" chart run goes and determine what to do about his album then. I'm sure Curb knows the uphill climb for his latest single to reach the top 30, so maybe they decide to release his album before year's end anyway.

I dunno, I think that was a really smart thing to say. It doesn't matter how big your career gets, but if you don't believe in and enjoy the music that you're putting out, then what's the point? A lot more artists should follow that kind of mantra, imo.
