With his big debut—likely boosted by a literally incendiary VMAs perf and his appearance on two Apple ads—The Weeknd is on track to have the #2 debut and #8 seller of the year in his first week. Numbers are still flowing in, but with his three huge hits, the XO/Republic breakout is on track to do around 890k TEA, with projected album sales in the 325-340k region. That would enable him to edge out Fall Out Boy for Top 10 YTD sales, and place him behind only labelmate and fellow Toronto native Drake for the year's top debut. Meanwhile, could The Weeknd overtake Drake in streams? His Beauty Behind The Madness raked in over 20 million streams in only three days. This new piece of info raises our overall SPS projection to 385-410k. ( HDD)

( HDD) The main page version of this article lists an even higher number -- "900-925k TEA" hitsdailydouble.com/rumor_millEdit: Was momentarily confused by that number, but it appears it's based on them retro-counting sales for Earned It, Can't Feel My Face and The Hills (plus Often, I presume?).

They would have to be retrocounting. Based on ~13k units from 20 million streams (it will be higher, but that's the number cited) and the estimate of 325k pure album units sold, and the low SPS estimate of 385, he'd be selling around 500k tracks this week to make up the difference just to get to 385k, so 900-925k i dont know where they could possibly be getting that number from.

AN ASTRONOMICAL MIDWEEK TOP 15 September’s here, boys and girls. This is turning out to be a week to remember, as the market shakes off its summer doldrums and sales, tracks and streams explode. Chalk it up to a welcome slate of strong new releases and impact of the Video Music Awards. Let’s not worry about that asteroid that’s on target to hit the earth until later in the month, OK? Here’s how things look at midweek: * The Weeknd (XO/Republic) 325-350k sales, 400-425k SPS * Halsey (Astralweks/Capitol) 95-100k, 105-110k Luke Bryan (Capitol Nashville) 42-47k, 55-60k Dr. Dre (Aftermath/Interscope) 28-33k, 33-38k * Beach House (Sub Pop) 27-30k, 28-32k Disturbed (Reprise) 22-25k, 25-28k * Ben Rector (APTLY NAMED) 22-25k, 24-27k Taylor Swift (Big Machine/BMLG) 21-24k, 33-38k Now 55 (NOW/Legacy) 21-24k * Maddie & Tae (Dot/BMLG) 21-24k, 24-27k Descendants (Walt Disney) 14-16k, 19-22k Sam Hunt (MCA Nashville) 13-15k, 24-27k Ed Sheeran (Asylum U.K.) 12-14k, 27-30k N.W.A (Priority/UMe) 12-14k, 20-23k Future (Epic) 10-12k, 24-27k Drake (YMCMB/Republic) 10-12k, 21-24k ( HDD)

Wow, crazy how steadily The Weeknd's projections have increased. Good for him. If he plays his cards right, he should be 2x platinum on this album.

I have no idea how Halsey is opening with 100k. I literally had never heard of her until like last month and I'm pretty plugged in to the blog scene

Spotify is pimping Halsey so hard. I've gotten promoted tweets for the album every day since it dropped

Good start for The Weeknd and quite impressive for Halsey considering none of her songs have taken off yet.

Can someone educate me -- who/what is Halsey? A guy? A girl? A group? What genre? She is a "famous on internet" singer. She is compared with Lana del Rey and Lorde, but frankly New Americana just doesn't play in the same league Video Games or Royals played. A lot of hype and that's all

Tori Kelly seems to be doing well considering she hasn't had a huge radio hit. She's done alot of promo but as most of us know hasn't stuck to much at radio yet.

Damn, that's a shocking entry. I only saw her name for the first time about 2 weeks ago as well. That's significantly higher than what Lana sold with her debut.
