Artist: Craig Morgan Single: "When I'm Gone" Writers: Steven Dale Jones, Justin Ebach Label: Black River Entertainment Add Date: September 21st Source: Country Aircheck Listen to the first verse and chorus of the song here!Craig has been at work on his next studio album this summer with producer Byron Gallimore and "When I'm Gone" will be the lead single. My source was correct that this would be released in the early Fall, although September 21st is still technically summer, lol. Tag .indulgecountry. :)

The mixing on the track seems a bit odd and disjointed, but I like that it's country and Craig's voice sounds as great as ever here, so I'm sure I'll enjoy this one.

This is SO refreshing. I didn't realize how much I've missed Craig, until now. This sounds perfect.

This song DOES sound incredibly fresh. Definitely modern, with undeniable country elements. I am completely on board! The chorus is kinda belty, which I know a lot of people have grown tired of with Craig, but I do not think it is the type of belty that will really turn off a lot of listeners. I cannot wait to hear the full song.

This feels like a hit to me but I also know some may feel that the lyrics are a bit of a 'downer' given they talk about death (though they really are about living a life worth celebrating and leaving behind). Considering the wake that is the loss of Aristomedia's founder/president in Nashville, this song feels like it was written for him, Jeff Walker. A man who DID live those lyrics.

Wow, this sounds really good! Unfortunately it doesn't really matter what kind of song he produces at this point, as radio will heavily ignore it (probably), but wow, when he is on Craig is ON

Black River knows the challenges with Craig's age and was able to have slow success with "Wake Up Lovin' You" just last year, so I can see this one making the top 40 but not doing too much beyond that.

Craig's voice sounds both oddly processed and more aged. It sounds like he still hasn't gotten over his "belt like a male Martina and over-twang like early Aaron Tippin at the same time" phase, and I certainly hope the song doesn't end with a "WHEEEEEEEEEYUUUUUHNN AAAAAAAYYYYYYI'M GOOOOOOOOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOOOOOAAAAWWWWWWWNE". I like the snappy production and melody so far, and the lyrics seem promising.

Great modern song from Craig. A little toned-down even from his new songs off the Greatest Hits album. This is good.
I was convinced it would be "Country Side of Heaven" (Eric Paslay) as he played that pretty frequently live. I thought that was one of the weaker songs from Eric's album though, so I'm glad Craig went with this one.

I have little faith Craig can ever achieve a top 30 single again but man, the add date Black River selected couldn't have been worse. Zac Brown Band, Sam Hunt and Joe Nichols all go for adds on the 21st, which also includes new releases from Ashley Gearing and Blackjack Billy.
I think this song is radio-friendly enough but it's going to be a long haul of a chart run if Craig's last couple singles are any indication.

I'm hoping this does well. Craig deserves more hit songs.

Sabre14 doubts Craig Morgan will score a top 30 hit again.

You are aware that WKe Up Lovin' You reached 14 on the Billboard U.S Country AirPlay Charts Yeah, but the followup, "We'll Come Back Around" didn't even make the Top 50. Plus, country radio has already changed a lot since 2013 (when Wake Up was climbing) so it could be likely that this might do something, but I doubt it

You are aware that WKe Up Lovin' You reached 14 on the Billboard U.S Country AirPlay Charts Yes. If you read what I said, I mentioned that "I (which indicates a personal forecast) have little faith Craig can ever achieve a top 30 single again" (meaning I'm aware that Craig has had many top 30 singles in his career). Craig is in his 50's now, and with how long "Wake Up Lovin' You" took to achieve its peak (along with the flame out of "We'll Come Back Around"), I think it will be as hard as ever for him to get sustained airplay on country radio. I'm not saying it's definitely not going to happen, just my prediction. Believe me, I know as well as anybody here, how high past singles on country radio have gotten.

Be more optimistic guys. Anyone can make a top 30 hit. LoCash had songs that were never popular and all of a sudden I love this Life is in the top 30. Chris Jansons first album had no hits and now buy me a boat is top 5. I think with BLack River Entertainment and the Producer he is working with can make this a top 20 song. Along with the help from the 1,000,000 People who've liked his Facebook page and the people that watch his show. I am putting my prediction in that this song will reach at least 18

I am putting my prediction in that this song will reach at least 18 I'll agree with you that anything can happen. Black River (owned by that Sabres and Bills owner-what's his name?) just landed their first top ten and #1 with Love Me Like You Mean It from Kelsea Ballerini. I really believe that's the direction the label wants to go right now. Sure, Craig Morgan scored a few top twentys for the label, but has not punched it in to the top tier of the charts. Same goes for Kellie Pickler. I really hope she can gain traction at the label so they can boast TWO female stars there. I do agree with sabre14 that Morgan's prospects for scoring a top ten are out of reach. This isn't 2005 where he had the top song of the year with That's What I Love About Sunday and then followed it up with a #2 peaking Redneck Yacht Club.

Wait Redneck Yacht Club only peaked at #2. I wanna know who stopped it. "Redneck Yacht Club" peaked at #1 on R&R (granted, bulletless, which was fortunate for Craig) and #2 on Billboard. "Something To Be Proud Of" was #1 before RYC hit #1 on R&R and "Better Life" was immediately after.

I was actually surprised they didn't place it on All Access the past week or two but whatever.

I am really liking this song. It is too bad he is releasing it right in the middle of an impending chart clog, because that will only be another factor that will potentially hinder him from getting another hit.
