Saw this on the pavement in the East Village today. Apparently there's a street team too? I saw one for Beauty Behind The Madness too when it came out, but that had a lot more hype. Her team did the same thing in Austin during SXSW last year when Chandelier was announced.

What an awful song. This has one of the worst hooks (if you can even call repeating the phrase "I'm alive" over and over a proper hook) I've heard recently.
And Sia's voice is more harsh-sounding than ever, IMO.

I enjoyed "Chandelier" as much as the next guy, but her vocal delivery and songwriting are starting to feel like a parody of her old self. I'm sorry but she just sounds like a strangled cat on this.

Is it Jimmy Fallon on the cover? What I was just going to say.

I actually really like this! Her vocals can be grating at times but I will take a unique quality in vocals any day. I wonder if this will be getting a radio push...

I like it, although a couple of those adlibs are a bit too Jessie J-ish for my taste. That said, I'm not sure how this was meant to be anything other than an album track, let alone a lead single. The song is completely devoid of energy until the pre-bridge around 2:45. It finally catches on at that point, but it's just way too boring.

I don't think this'll translate well to radio unless they cut out the bridge in the middle where the music nearly cuts out as she repeats "I'm alive."
I like the song though, but I'd be surprised if it did as well as either Chandelier or Elastic Heart, both songs I like more than this anyway.

So, is there a beep in the last line of the bridge ("I know that's part of youuu beepuuu") or is that just her vocal? It doesn't sound like the word is changed after it, so it doesn't sound like it's an expletive being cut out (e.g. "part of you; f**k you"). I don't think this'll translate well to radio unless they cut out the bridge in the middle where the music nearly cuts out as she repeats "I'm alive." I like the song though, but I'd be surprised if it did as well as either Chandelier or Elastic Heart, both songs I like more than this anyway. The radio edit just cuts out the second half of the first verse ("I wanted everything I never had" etc.).

It's not as good as Chandelier, but how is anything supposed to top that, lmao.
It's still really good. I love her unique vocal styling and the way her voice cracks. I do think the chorus could have added something other than just repeating "I'm alive", though.

I just want to start out by saying that this song has slayed me and I'm currently posting as a ghost. 1) I can see why this didn't make Adele's album. It's not the most polished, efficient pop song. It sounds like it could be Rolling in the Chandelier. 2) What it lacks in precision, it makes up in raw, bombastic pathos. This thing is a soaking wet sponge of emotion, and she is wringing it until it's dry. 3) Vocal performance of the year. Sweet baby Jesus, 3:25-3:50 basically vaporizes you. You're just atoms and ash floating through the air.

Kurt I think that's just a squeak in her vocal. I also don't think that's the line; I've seen a set of lyrics and they DO seem to correspond with what she's singing, but I've interpreted them slightly differently in what I think makes more sense. {LYRICS (My Interpretation)}I was born in a thunderstorm I grew up overnight I played alone, I played on my own I survived, hey I wanted everything I never had Like the love that comes with life I wore envy and I hated it But I survived
I had a one-way ticket to a place where all the demons go Where the wind don't change And nothing in the ground can ever grow No hope, just lies And you're taught to cry in your pillow But I'll survive
I'm still breathing, I'm still breathing I'm still breathing, I'm still breathing I'm alive, I'm alive I'm alive, I'm alive
I found solace in the strangest place Way in the back of my mind I saw my life in a stranger's face And it was mine
You took it all, but I'm still breathing You took it all, but I'm still breathing You took it all, but I'm still breathing You took it all, but I'm still breathing You took it all, but I'm still breathing You took it all, but I'm still breathing You took it all, but I'm still breathing You took it all, but I'm still breathing
I had made every single mistake That you could ever possibly make I took and I took and I took what you gave But you never noticed that I was in pain I knew what I wanted, I went and I got it Did all the things that you said that I wouldn't I told you that I would never be forgotten At all, in spite of you
And I'm still breathing, I'm still breathing I'm still breathing, I'm still breathing I'm alive, I'm alive I'm alive, I'm alive I'm alive, I'm alive I'm alive, I'm alive

The set of lyrics is probably my transcription (or someone copying them) from Genius yesterday, so chances are they aren't quite right, haha. (ETA: Yeah yours make a lot more sense lmao. *edits*)

This is by far the worst Sia song I've ever heard. I know it's horrible when I have to check to see how much time is left in it. Sia can do better than whatever this is.

Surprised to hear people slamming her vocal on this. I think she kills it and doesn't sound overly "Sia".

I didn't know this was coming today. I hadn't heard the snippet but was seeing this thread popping frequently in Pulse so I began to be excited. I checked the album thread and listened to it... Some reactions: Oh, this sounds like an Adele song, cool! But what is she saying? Now she sounds mumbling like Shakira. That's fine though Oh power! Yes, Sia, go for it! Oh, Jesus, you ARE alive gurl! That break in your voice is getting to me Wait, I think I'm getting the lyrics And how Sia is like opening her heart raw to us Saaang it! I think my pulse raised now in this bridge Oh gee, yes, I also survived and I AM ALIVE. Now you made me shed a tear. Man, I'm thinking of my parents now. You touched me. Boo What a trip!
In summary: I LOVE IT! And it indeed made me cry. I used to be more purist in terms of voices. Then I heard Alanis and Dolores O' Riordan and learned how to be transported by unconventional singing. Sia can be screamy but she has a way to connect that is rare. Hope this is a hit!!!

This gives me chills, I'll be shocked it doesn't become a hit. I'm so happy she's not just writing for other people and performing her own songs, her voice is a gift.

It was just serviced to radios with 3 versions: Radio Edit, Main and its Instrumental. Hopefully the instrumental will pop up on LNRP very soon! Does this mean that the instrumental will be downloadable on AllAcces? You're able to access the downloads on All Access?
