http://instagram.com/p/7XEimKx2S7 I'm going to assume that as with Adele's song, they're going to send this to pop and that it'll get some kind of traction, but feel free to move it to the non-singles thread.

About time it was offically announced. We've pretty much known he's doing Bond for months now. I am upset that this could kill any chance for Omen to build momentum, though sadly that looks like it could be done anyways.

SAM SMITH TO SING TITLE SONG TO "SPECTRE" CULVER CITY, Calif., September 8, 2015 - Albert R. Broccoli's EON Productions, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, and Sony Pictures Entertainment today confirmed that Sam Smith has recorded "Writing's On The Wall," the theme song to SPECTRE, the 24th James Bond adventure. SPECTRE will be released in the UK on October 26 and in the US on November 6. The song, released by Capitol Records, will debut and be available to purchase and stream on September 25. Multi-platinum selling artist Sam Smith has co-written the title song, "Writing's On The Wall," with fellow GRAMMY® Award winner Jimmy Napes. It is the first James Bond theme song recorded by a British male solo artist since 1965. Smith's debut album In The Lonely Hour launched at No. 1 in the UK and bowed in at No. 2 in the US, and has since earned five No.1 UK singles, four GRAMMY® Awards, three Brit Awards, six MOBO Awards, Q and AMA Awards. Commenting on the announcement, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, the producers of SPECTRE, said, "Sam and Jimmy have written the most inspirational song for SPECTRE and with Sam's extraordinary vocal performance, 'Writing's On The Wall' will surely be considered one of the greatest Bond songs of all time." Smith said: "This is one of the highlights of my career. I am honoured to finally announce that I will be singing the next Bond theme song. I am so excited to be a part of this iconic British legacy and join an incredible line up of some of my biggest musical inspirations. I hope you all enjoy the song as much as I enjoyed making it." The 23 previous James Bond theme songs make up some of the most memorable movie music of all time. The previous Bond theme song, "Skyfall," was performed by Adele, and was honored with the Academy Award® and Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song, the Brit Award for British Single of the Year, and the Grammy Award for Best Song Written for Visual Media. ABOUT "SPECTRE" A cryptic message from the past sends James Bond (Daniel Craig) on a rogue mission to Mexico City and eventually Rome, where he meets Lucia Sciarra (Monica Bellucci), the beautiful and forbidden widow of an infamous criminal. Bond infiltrates a secret meeting and uncovers the existence of the sinister organisation known as SPECTRE. Meanwhile back in London, Max Denbigh (Andrew Scott), the new head of the Centre for National Security, questions Bond's actions and challenges the relevance of MI6, led by M (Ralph Fiennes). Bond covertly enlists Moneypenny (Naomie Harris) and Q (Ben Whishaw) to help him seek out Madeleine Swann (Léa Seydoux), the daughter of his old nemesis Mr White (Jesper Christensen), who may hold the clue to untangling the web of SPECTRE. As the daughter of an assassin, she understands Bond in a way most others cannot. As Bond ventures towards the heart of SPECTRE, he learns of a chilling connection between himself and the enemy he seeks, played by Christoph Waltz. Sam Mendes returns to direct SPECTRE, with Daniel Craig reprising his role as 007 for the fourth time. SPECTRE is produced by Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli. The screenplay is by John Logan and Neal Purvis & Robert Wade and Jez Butterworth, with a story by John Logan and Neal Purvis & Robert Wade. SPECTRE is set for release in the UK on October 26, 2015, and in the US on November 6, 2015. About Albert R. Broccoli's EON Productions EON Productions Limited and Danjaq LLC are wholly owned and controlled by the Broccoli/Wilson family. I am excited about it! I am upset that this could kill any chance for Omen to build momentum, though sadly that looks like it could be done anyways. I worry a little about that too, but there should still be time for "Omen" to grow since the release is still 3 weeks away. And even then, it might take a little time for this new one to gain traction if it actually gets a proper radio release.

I don't recall how Skyfall did on pop?

Didn't "Skyfall" get a deal when it was released. I could be wrong but I remember hearing it the day it was released and possibily 1 or 2 more times. Then never again.

Didn't Skyfall peak at #36ish or something and spend only a week inside the top 40? It went like 36-43-off or something?

Well, i suppose this will get an Skyfall performance in the best case scenario (and probably it will be that because it's Bond, he is a hot artist right now, and radio probably will play it at least in the first week). Then it will depend of the song, i'm not a big fan of Skyfall but i was a bit surprised it didn't performed better on pop. Skyfall chart run it was really weird because it had a day deal and almost all spins were from that day.
Anyway for a moment i thought he was releasing new material (from second album) and that doesn't make any sense (better not wait too much but releasing too soon it will be a mistake too).
Hopefully the song will be good

Stay with me didn't killed Latch momentum, and frankly i will be surprised if this new song perform like LIC, so if Omen's momentum is gone i'm pretty sure it won't be due to this

If they had to get a popular artist to do the theme song, why not go with Lana Del Rey, who would've been ideal for this?
Anyway... I wonder what Tom Petty song he will jack and make more lifeless this time?

lmao he really is not doing anything to shake off the "male adele" comparisons by recording the bond theme after his current album has run its course just like she did.

In the past 30 years there have been 10 Bond films and only 2 Bond songs that became legitimate radio hits in the US (Duran Duran and Madonna-- we could technically say Madonna's the only one considering Duran Duran's came out earlier in '85). That's despite the fact that the vast majority of them were by artists who were then at a period of their career where they were having success at radio. I don't think it's safe to say this will be a hit, let alone overshadow any other material he has out. I can definitely see it doing well in sales like Adele's song but radio is another question.

Is his next album going to be called 24? I mean we get it - they want us to think he's the male Adele

Sam certainly has lots of people comparing him to other artists. I've heard Adele and George Michael just to name 2. How about just liking him for HIS voice and HIS music ?

I didn't find his music the sleepiest drawl ever and 2. His team didn't photocopy Adele's playbook at the local library and follow her career to the T.

I'm looking forward to it, despite I have preferred Sam's featured tracks over the ones he released as solo, bar "Nirvana". However, I'm wondering how it will be if it's considered that Disclosure had 'additional production' on this track too.

I think he's done commercially. Flop sirry Sorry, but i don't understand this. Bond themes generally don't do well commercially, so even if this end flopping bombastically (and i don't think it will happen because probably first week sales will be good enough to chart on the hot 100) i doubt it will affect to his career at all. If the first single from his second album flops big time then he will be in danger, but till then he comes from a very very successful era and that won't change no matter how well or bad this song will do

I suppose it will have a similar chart run to (in case it has a radio deal). Bond themes are not exactly popular on pop radio. So i expect a low top 40 peak, a couple of weeks on the chart and of course a top 5 on the UK's chart
I just checked and i am surprised Skyfall was in fact six weeks on the chart (i thought i was way less). 40-40-38-39-39-45
