Is this seriously going to on country radio right now? It reminds me of a sloppy remake of "Uptown Funk" with a not-so-subtle name drop simply for the sake of covering his minuscule assets.

Yes, AND he got a standing ovation for playing it at CRS yesterday. That song is actually called "Taking My Heartbeat Higher" and while she sings on it, it's no real duet.

To be fair, Eric was dancing, clearly enjoying himself with the ditty. Vince gill got two standing o's at his performance, Stapleton got one and Darius one for "So I Sang."

This only further enforces that one is not like the other, lmao. Thankfully there were some more well-deserved standing O's then.

To be fair, Eric was dancing, clearly enjoying himself with the ditty. So as long as one dances while singing a terrible song, the ovations are bound to follow. :) What's a terrible song to some (or even most), could be a song someone else loves. You don't have to look any further than threads like, "Friend Zone," or "Said No One Ever." Most people (at least on Pulse) dislike it, but there are others who actually like it. I think that is the most infuriating thing about this place. People can't seem to grasp that everyone has different tastes. Nothing against you at all (or anyone else who posted in this thread). But there are so many people here who like different styles of music in the country genre alone. The fact that someone can love the songs I mentioned above and then put down someone who got a standing O, makes my head spin.

I think I have a pretty fair reputation here with understanding that music is subjective and people have different tastes and my post (judging by my emoticon, along with my posting history) was meant as a fun jab at the fact it's my personal feeling that getting a standing ovation for singing "High Class" proves that these standing ovations happen far too often. Yes, Paslay could have rendered a performance that left me in awe, but I have my doubts for reasons to do with this song's lyrics, vocals and production. When someone makes a post like I just did, it's irresponsible for someone to assume a person thinks that his opinion of a terrible song (which I do believe "High Class" is) is the only opinion of said song, and that I'm somehow clueless of someone else's opinion.

But there are so many people here who like different styles of music in the country genre alone. The fact that someone can love the songs I mentioned above and then put down someone who got a standing O, makes my head spin. First off, this is a discussion board so everyone is aware of this and it doesn't mean that expressing negative opinions and posts said with humorous intent should cease in order to to appease the few who do like a song such as this one. I've been irked by the overwhelmingly negative slant of the "Said No One Ever" thread because I like the song, but it's not gonna change my opinion of the song, so what does it really matter? Secondly, you can like a song without thinking it deserves a standing ovation. I just see absolutely no reason for there to be a standing ovation given for a performance of a song like this, especially when rsmatto pointed out some of the other examples of songs that received them. I sure as hell wouldn't stand up for a Vince Gill or Chris Stapleton performance and then have the nerve to do it for "High Class," too. It cheapens the whole purpose of a standing O for a song like this one to get one just because he "was enjoying himself" on stage, as Matt put it. People can stand up for whatever the hell they want, but I still think it sounds ridiculous. /shrug

There's a difference between saying "I dislike the song, and here are the reasons why..." to, "them getting a standing O is wrong and these people are the only ones who deserve it." That is saying that other people's opinions are wrong. Now with that said, I think both sabre14 and .indulgecountry are two of the best posters in this entire board (not just the country thread but all of Pulse). I read every post by both of them because I respect their opinions quite a bit. I just get annoyed that people who sometimes like songs only few like wouldn't understand how a song they don't like still could get a good reception (and it be warranted).

There's a difference between saying "I dislike the song, and here are the reasons why..." to, "them getting a standing O is wrong and these people are the only ones who deserve it." That is saying that other people's opinions are wrong. I never said that "getting a standing O is wrong and these people are the only ones who deserve it." I absolutely do not believe that me shaking my head at a song getting a standing ovation, equates to me thinking those people who like that song are wrong. If I agree that music is purely subjective (which I have) then I do think everyone is entitled to their opinion of a song. Thinking too many songs at CRS get standing ovations, does not mean I think that every single person who stood up to applaud is wrong for liking that song. For instance, I love "Do You Want Fries With That"...but I'm not giving it a standing ovation. Does that mean I don't really like that song because I didn't give it a standing O? I know people like the song -- I happen to dislike the song. People are allowed to give standing ovations for any song they want to -- I think they happen too often. That's what I'm saying.

I can see the appeal in this song. Also I've heard of how Eric Paslay is in concert, and he's really solid. I do think standing O should be given to songs that you really enjoy or are really impressed, I imagine the people who watched Eric Paslay were really impressed with his performance and judging by the fact it got a standing ovation the performance probably was very impressive.

For the record, this is not the Eric I want to hear, but I do think this song is okay. It's not a masterpiece but it's just okay. Saw him live last week and he nails the performance for this song. Although it still has the horns in it (that's one of my pet peeves: pre-recorded instruments in concerts).
He's a solid performer for sure. Hearing his other new song live makes me really fear what his second album will sound like. I loved his first.

At the crs event, it was acoustic (only KU played electrics to close out show).

"High Class" is looking like it might be starting to take off. "High Class" gained 200 spins this week, Eric Paslay has also gained about 800K in audience this week.
I'm not saying this will be a hit by any means but Eric is really starting to pick up the pace so he might be able to eek out a Top 20 out of "High Class" when all is said and done.

This one barely missed the Mediabase top 30 -- just 4 total points separated Eric from Jason. A couple spins more would've gotten this one countdown spins this weekend.

This one took a pretty nasty hit today -- losing 54 spins and 270k in audience -- almost enough to convince me this one is through. "High Class" has now lost 35 spins and 160k in audience this week on Mediabase, with day left to go in chart tracking week.
Remember how long it took "Friday Night" to climb the chart? It seemed like it took forever, right? Well, that song at the 26 week mark on Billboard (which is where "High Class" is right now) had 19.0 million in total audience..."High Class" has just 5.4 million. On Mediabase, "Friday Night" at the 26 week mark sat at #18 and had 3200 spins and 23.0 million in total audience..."High Class" currently sits at #31, with 1588 spins and 7.8 million in audience. I don't think this song will be the one to get Eric's album out there.
I don't know if EMI will throw the towel in on this song soon (perhaps this week) but I do know this song won't be accomplishing much if its lackluster chart run is any indication.

You know what's most interesting? The fact that Eric Paslay just needs to hold off Tucker Beathard and "High Class" gets in the MB Top 30 and he looks to be about ready to give up. I do have to say for myself this song has grown on me (I also don't get how this song automatically means Eric Paslay has sold out). But at this point this song, "Stone Cold Sober" and "I Met A Girl" they are all taking up chart space and the chart could use a good housecleaning.

This one lost another 200k in audience today. That brings its two day losses to 70 spins and 465k in audience. The sweet irony too -- Eric's song is once again at #31 for a third straight week this week as iHeartmedia is to blame with "Rock On" (OTV), lol. This time without a bullet.

This is definitely a worst song of the year candidate in my books. Can't change the station fast enough when it comes on. Bad vocals, bad production, bad lyrics = headache.

"High Class" is on life support right now, as in the last 6 days Eric has gained a weak 20 spins and has lost a little over 300k in audience. Eric has to re-bullet or else he will be sent recurrent, at this point however I'd give up as Eric this week got passed by Carrie Underwood (that was expected anyway), Sam Hunt (he saw a nice surge this week), Jennifer Nettles (she got Westwood One this week a lot), and Big & Rich (they saw a nice spark this week and have a great chance of breaking into the Top 30 next week).
"High Class" top 30 chances continues to diminish and at this point the label should give up. I'm actually expecting "High Class" to not appear on tomorrow's chart for BB as if it wasn't for the 7 spins gained this week in total Eric would be on his second bulletless week. With 300k in audience dropped this week I'm full on expecting Eric to go recurrent.

I don't think it'll climb much higher, but maybe it'll re-enter for a couple of weeks (I hope not -- mostly because it's clear that this one isn't connecting. I understand why EMI would want to keep pushing it, though, given that they've already invested more than half a year into its chart run).

Looks like "High Class" is finally finished as Eric Paslay lost 50 spins and 320k in audience today.
Billboard Peak #32 Mediabase Peak #31
Personally I'm impressed it lasted this long. I am definitely curious to see if Eric can get his momentum back.

I am definitely curious to see if Eric can get his momentum back. Of course he can. "Momentum" is such an over-used phrase here. It really applies only to artists who've had multiple chart toppers and are ready to become A-list instant rising stars or those at that status in jeopardy of dropping from such status. Eric Paslay's never had that status. -- As for next single, I'd probably go with "Sun," "All Or Nothing," "Taking My Heartbeat Higher," or "Backstage Pass." They feel most radio relevant (aka "tempo" even if mostly mid).
