I'm still mad this hasn't done anything at Urban. If this was Chris's song with a Tinashe feature, it would be at least a moderate hit there.

Yeah there's nothing urban about this at all imo.

I mean Royals went to number one at Urban and Dark Horse was a big hit there too, iirc. Surely they could throw this song a bone. It's got clear R&B influences and Breezy's feature definitely leans in that direction too. In a perfect world, this would be a crossover record.

Well, "Royals" is a lot more Urban than this...and "Dark Horse" is too. This song is straight up bubble gum dance pop.

Well, "Royals" is a lot more Urban than this...and "Dark Horse" is too. This song is straight up bubble gum dance pop. I think it's a complicated comparison. Royals and Dark Horse were urban-flavored productions, but with clearly pop voices and lyrics on top of them. And it's not like either Lorde or Katy made an obvious effort to court that airplay; they never did do any promo in urban circles. On the other hand Player is a more pop-leaning production but Tinashe's voice and lyrics are distinctly urban/r&b to me and most of Tinashe's promo thus far in her career has been driven toward fans of r&b. I also agree with the person who said that if this were a Chris-led single urban would spin it - it's not so poppy that it would isolate listeners. But of course it's all a moot point because RCA has yet to send the song to urban, so urban has not been given a reason to check for it. They did that with AHOD too, and that was inarguably urban-friendly all the way around. Not sure what RCA's logic is by not sending T for adds here.

Player is a house music leaning production. The Chris Brown version gives it an urban appeal, but that's about it.
