"Cold Beer Conversation" is an awesome song. Any chance "CBC" could be his next number 1?

"Cold Beer Conversation" is an awesome song. Any chance "CBC" could be his next number 1? No. George only got 11 more adds on impact day and while he got some hourly treatment the day this debuted (27 stations last week), that was due to his surprise album release. It fell out of the MB top 50 and fell dramatically this week on Billboard due to its 8th day hangover. I wish I could be dead wrong but I'd be shocked if this cracked the MB top 40 and I don't see it matching its debut position of #35 on Billboard. George's days of #1's is long gone.

You know something, I hate your last sentence. But that's the reality of the second decade of the 21st century as far as George Strait is concerned.

Unfortunately, I don't think George will ever have another Top 10, and "I Got a Car" may well be the last top 20 he ever has. The first two songs from CBC have stiffed, meaning 4 of his last 5 songs have stiffed, not even coming close to the top 30 (Drinkin' Man, I Believe, Let It Go, and Cold Beer Conversation). The lone exception was I Got a Car, which reached something like #18.
He can get a few more #1 songs the easy way though, by doing a duet with Taylor Swift or Carrie Underwood or any of the current "in" crowd.

Coming soon: Luke Bryan featuring George Strait - "Drinkin' in my Truck"

Having CDs by George Strait as well as my favorite recording artist of all-time (Don Henley) being released on the same day was downright exhilarating and then some; both CDs are wall-to-wall masterpieces, but unfortunately neither of them will result in any songs from two flawless CDs being aired on CT40, which is infuriating, but that's the way it goes sometimes.
This tune would have breezed to #1 several years ago, but that was then and this is now.

I dishearteningly agree that this wonderful tune won't spent multiple weeks at #1 and conceivably match the year-end 5-week run of such standouts as his own his wonderful 'I've Come To Expect It From You', as well as Tim's equally wonderful My Next Thirty Years, a superb Phil Vassar-written tune.
Oh, well!

Oh, well! I absolutely love I've Come To Expect It From You. It was George Strait's second five week #1 after Love Without End, Amen. It started Billboard 1991 in high fashion. The American Country Countdown named it the second biggest hit of 1991 behind Don't Rock The Jukebox. Here is the chart where Strait was tops: BILLBOARD TOP TEN FOR WEEK ENDING DECEMBER 8, 1990: 1. I'VE COME TO EXPECT IT FROM YOU-GEORGE STRAIT-MCA 2. Chasin' That Neon Rainbow-Alan Jackson-Arista 3. Crazy In Love-Conway Twitty-MCA 4. Come Next Monday-K.T. Oslin-RCA 5. Put Yourself In My Shoes-Clint Black-RCA 6. Ghost In This House-Shenandoah-Columbia 7. Unanswered Prayers-Garth Brooks-Capitol 8. Never Knew Lonely-Vince Gill-MCA 9. Back In My Younger Days-Don Williams-RCA 10. Forever's As Far As I'll Go-Alabama-RCA

There's some songs in there that have really stood the test of time well.

That is indeed one ridiculously loaded top 10; thank goodness for classic country radio stations.

Well about the only item missing from his resume was having the #1 single of the year at least once during his storied career.
' Carrying Your Love With Me' and ''One Night At A Time' wound up #2 and #3 for the year in 1997 behind 'It's Your Love', while 'I Saw God Today' finished #2 for the year @ BB in 2008 behind 'Just Got Started Lovin' You', which also happened to be the last song to top the year-end charts at both BB & R&R.
Zazie went out very early on a limb in late 2007 predicting that 'You're Gonna Miss This' would wind up #1 for the year in 2008, and he came thisclose to nailing it, as that standout song wound up #2 for the year @ R&R.

Looks like the King also had #2's for the year in 1996 ("Blue Clear Sky") and 1999 ("Write This Down"). The reason I had been looking was that I was trying to see where the song I thought was his biggest hit "I Cross My Heart" wound up. I can't find it. I know it peaked in late December 92 which can do weird things on yearly charts. Anyone?

Would you believe "ICMH" didn't make the top 75 on both the year-end charts for '92 and '93?

Would you believe "ICMH" didn't make the top 75 on both the year-end charts for '92 and '93? I don't have it listed in the top 100 at the American Country Countdown for BOTH years. It was the first #1 for Billboard 1993.

As someone who used to care about Bob Kingsley's year-end countdowns, to the extent that I tried to come up with points systems that would model his top 100's year after year, I will say that his countdowns took a big turn toward accuracy in 1994. He had real problems, both underrating and overrating songs, earlier in the 90's. So I am not surprised to read about inaccuracies in the early part of the 90's.
There are imperfections in every point-based system, but his whole system of scoring was flawed in the early 90's.
Thanks for remembering something I said so many years ago, Marv. I'm flattered to be remembered in that way.

I have known of various songs that peaked either at the very beginning or end of a year that seemed to get undercounted as a result in both year end charts. So my assumption would be that's what happened to ICMH.

If anyone is interested, I did a thirty week series on the top ten songs according to the American Country Countdown (1980-2009) back in 2010. George Strait did finish at the #2 spot a few times. Here's the link to the 2010 thread: pulsemusic.proboards.com/thread/91197

My first time hearing this on radio today! I traveled to Wellsville (NY) today and on my way home "Cold Beer Conversation" came on 105.3 (WKPQ). How refreshing to hear this on the radio! Wish WYRK would put this into rotation.

Hey, "Cold Beer Conversation" got 14 more adds on MB this week and re-cracks the top 40 as George gains over 900k in total Billboard audience.

I heard this on the radio last week and I was ecstatic. The new adds are nice to see. I still have little expectations for this to be a hit, but I'm glad radio has already received it better out of the gate than "Let It Go," which is a small victory in itself.

"Cold Beer Conversation" should jump up 7 spots to #46 this week on MB, with the final update coming this evening. George continues to show very good gains the past 7-10 days with over 300k in audience gained today. The song is currently #38 on the Country iTunes chart and #201 on the all-genre chart.
Edit: Westwood One (W1MC) added this song this week, which greatly attributed to George's audience gains (over 1.5 million).

I really enjoy this song. I've heard it several times on the radio already, and it just sounds so good. It's very relatable.
It's starting to look like this might have a chance to go at least top 30...if it gets there, then we can start talking top 20. But for now I'm just hoping it can make the top 30 at the very least.

Top 30 seems a given, it's up to #42 and showing nice daily gains. I'm actually shocked it's doing so well. When it debuted at #35 then fell to #49 the following week, I figured it was one and done. I am very happy to say that I was wrong.
