^ I remember that situation. 20 was supposed to hit #1 and Ludacris stopped her at the last minute.

HDD: UPDATED NEW RELEASES: JANET HEADED FOR #1 Barring any “sneak attack” superstar releases, BMG’s returning icon Janet Jackson should easily claim the #1 spot on both the HITS sales and SPS charts this Friday with her new set, Unbreakable. Here’s what we have for Janet and the week’s other key debut, Tamar Braxton’s Calling All Lovers. Janet Jackson (BMG) 100-110k albums, 103-113k SPS Tamar Braxton (Epic) 35-40k, 39-44k Clutch (Weathermaker) 19-22k, 20-23k Sevendust (7Bros) 18-21k, 19-22k Trivium (Roadrunner) 14-17k, 15-18k Avicii (Island) 11-14k, 14-17k Collective Soul (Vanguard) 11-14k, 12-15k Winery Dogs (Loud & Proud) 8-10k, 8-10k Eagles of Death Metal (UMe) 8-10k, 8-10k Queensryche (Century Media) 8-10k, 8-10k Unbreakable reunites Jackson with producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, with whom she created her most enduring albums, and features guest spots from J. Cole and Missy Elliott. These are, of course, very preliminary numbers. Look for updates on these and other new releases on Monday. hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=297942

Fantastic opening for Janet, especially considering how low key the campaign has been press wise.
Bad opening for Tamar though.

Yah, considering Tamar is on TV constantly basically (The Real, Braxton Family Values, Tamar & Vince, Dancing With The Stars) I expected her to pull higher #s.
I'm glad Janet's doing even better than the initial predictions.

I will say that you really should note that an artist like Madonna put out 3 albums since the last Janet album and there are many tracks on each album that are true to Madonna's sound. But what exactly is "Madonna's sound"? I feel like she adopts a new, hotter sound every 5 years so I honestly couldn't tell you what her "sound" actually is.

Janet Jackson Aiming for Lucky Seventh No. 1 Album on Billboard 200 Chart By Keith Caulfield | October 05, 2015 9:43 PM EDT Janet Jackson is heading for her seventh No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart with Unbreakable. Industry forecasters suggest the set -- which was released on Oct. 2 through the diva’s own Rhythm Nation label through BMG -- may earn upwards of 100,000 equivalent album units in the week ending Oct. 8. The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The top 10 of the Oct. 24-dated Billboard 200 chart (where Jackson will likely debut at No. 1) is scheduled to be revealed on Billboard’s Web sites on Sunday, Oct. 11. Unbreakable is Jackson’s first studio album since 2008’s Discipline, which bowed atop the Billboard 200, selling 181,000 copies in its first week (according to Nielsen Music). Jackson earlier led the Billboard 200 with All for You (in 2001), The Velvet Rope (1997), janet. (1993), Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation 1814 (1989) and Control (1986). www.billboard.com/biz/articles/6715580/janet-jackson-aiming-for-lucky-seventh-no-1-album-on-billboard-200-chart

Yah, considering Tamar is on TV constantly basically (The Real, Braxton Family Values, Tamar & Vince, Dancing With The Stars) I expected her to pull higher #s. It's because the viewers know Tamar, but they don't know her music. The music has always been a small part of Tamar's shows. It'll show her in the studio or making a video for about 5-10 minutes. Outside of her shows, she doesn't have a major hit like "Love & War" and her visibility is low.

The Two times I've seen Tamar promoting this I think she was singing a slow song called "Circles". Is that even a single???? I think at least on Wendy Williams she should have sang "Catfish". I feel like her audience would have enjoyed that more. I also believe a decent amount of gay people watch her show and I'm sure "Catfish" would of went over better with them.

Billboard 200 matters but so does the Top 100 sellers....if it did not matter than it would not be published. The changing of the chart makes it impossible to really compare artist of different era's.
You can be #1 one week with the same sales as the previous weeks #3 so it is all relative. Either way any artist like Janet and Madonna who are landing top 5 albums and 100k after 30 years in the business with their top 40 days over is just outstanding and that is what makes them icons and legends.

Great. I thought Drake snatched it for her. 7 #1s. Billboard 200 Solo female albums 9- Barbra 8- Madonna 7-Janet 6-Britney and Mariah 5- Beyonce, Alicia Keys, 4-Whitney, Mary J blige, taylor, Gaga 3-Kelly Clarkson, Celine dion, Miley, Hanna montana ;), carrie underwood Update: forgot mama whitney. How you gonna forget the first woman to ever have an album debut at #1, most weeks at number one of any woman in the 80s, and the most overall weeks at number one of any woman ever (46 weeks, still stands, right)? But seriously, congratulations to Janet, that was more than I expected, but it is worth it. I enjoyed Damita Jo, 20 Y.O, and Discipline, but this is being put in the same category by many as her royal four (Control, Rhythm Nation, janet., The Velvet Rope).

Just because you evolve does not mean you do not have a sound. Ok, Kanye has a sound even though his albums are mostly different from on another, I get that. But regarding Madonna, I'm genuinely asking what her sound is, I've heard most of her music and can't identify it.

Outside of her shows, she doesn't have a major hit like "Love & War" and her visibility is low. I agree and don't agree with you. I think The Braxton show did well with showcasing a song, but it didn't display different songs. "If I Don't Have You" was shown a couple of times and when she was doing one of the songs, we didn't hear it because she was listening to it with headphones. I thought that didn't make any sense. They hyped up that we were going to hear something new on the show when it was just "If I Don't Have You" when she let her family listen (when I believe they already heard it before). I think she didn't take an advantage with featuring on songs on the show. I also don't think it is great idea for her to perform different songs (especially boring ones) on these different talk shows. Wendy should have definitely got a "Catfish" performance and "The Real" too.

I love Janet's new album but there is in no way her voice hasn't changed. The softness has gone and some serious auto tune has been added where in some of the songs she actually sounds like Michael. Sometimes she sounds like her old self on songs like "Shoulda Known Better" (which is actually my favorite song on the album) and on other singles she sounds pretty terrible like "BURNITUP".
Yeah, she's older now so we can't expect her to sound like she did on Dream Street. Same goes for Madonna and Mariah. All I have to say is I don't know what they would sound like without auto tune assisting their vocals. I suspect they would all sound like baritones with smokers cough.

Big Madonna fan here, but I'm not sure she has a distinct sound either, lol. Happy for Janet. I was expecting worse numbers than that.

Her voice has notably changed since 20 Y.0. and on this album, her vocals are much stronger. She's doing much more with her voice and even had a vocal coach. There's probably very little or no autotune. A friend thinks "BURNITUP!" has autotune, but even though her range isn't wide, she's always been able to do different things with it.
