Bathroom Sink? More like Toilet Bowl! Anyway, we get treated to a fifth Platinum release. I'll bet it peaks lower than Smokin' And Drinkin'.

I agree. Smokin' went nowhere; what makes them think a fifth single will do anything at this point, regardless of quality?

I'll bet it peaks lower than Smokin' And Drinkin'. With the CMA's on the doorstep, I actually think this one will do better than "Smokin' And Drinkin'", as long as the research holds up. This song is getting an adds date in early November, so that coincides with the CMA's and I know Sony/RCA is looking for a bounce back with this single. I'm not saying this is going to #1, or even top 10, but I would be pretty surprised if this one didn't crack the top 20. We've seen Big Machine suck up to Cumulus last month with "I Like The Sound Of That" and all the adds and predetermined airplay that song got, so who's to say this one doesn't at least get similar treatment? Again, I'm not saying that will happen but I wouldn't rule it out.

Yeah, even with the messiness of this era and "Smokin' and Drinkin'" not taking off, I don't see this one peaking that low. I give this one a strong shot of hitting the Top 20 at least.

We'll get a fifth Platinum single after pretty big misses, but probably only 4 Storyteller, singles even after hit after hit. Sorry if I shouldn't have brought that up here, it's just frustrating.

I agree. Smokin' went nowhere; what makes them think a fifth single will do anything at this point, regardless of quality? I assume the only reason Miranda released a 5th single this time around is because Miranda is probably nowhere near having new music ready, and this will give her a shorter dry spell at radio. I see this as a similar situation to Rascal Flatts releasing "I Like The Sound Of That," despite the underwhelming response to the prior single. At this point, having new music at radio may not do much for Miranda, but I don't see how it could hurt her, either. As for "Bathroom Sink," I think the message could connect with a lot of radio listeners, but I could also see the polarizing elements (over-exaggerated vocals and production), turning a lot of people off. She needs a sure-fire hit right now, and this probably isn't going to do it. If there was ever a time an artist needed to release a radio-friendly song for the sake of momentum, this would be it. It baffles me that such an opportunity was (again) wasted. Also, please can we not turn this into ANOTHER Carrie vs. Miranda thread? Really unnecessary.

If Gary Overton were still in charge, he would have released EVERY song off Platinum. Now, if Storyteller holds up well while Carrie Underwood releases singles from it, we may see a quintet of hits off that one.

Pretty surprised they're going with a 5th single, but I guess it can't hurt at this point. My issue is why they chose this to restore her momentum. It seems more like an album track to my ears and there's a perfectly radio friendly track just collecting dust in "Another Sunday In The South". Im just shocked they keep overlooking that one. I honestly thought they stuck it on the album because it was a mandatory radio pleaser type of song. "Girls" would have been a better choice as well. Don't really understand the single choice this time around.

I can see them releasing a 5th single to give her more time to record her next album, but why this? When I listen to the album, this song is kind of just there. Nothing about stands out for me. I originally was hoping for "Priscilla" as #5, but after the divorce the chances of it getting released sunk significantly. But why couldn't they have gone with "Babies Makin Babies"? Or maybe "Platinum"? Just something more radio-friendly than "Bathroom Sink".

I said this in the "Smokin' And Drinkin'" thread, but it's probably more appropriate here: I'm so torn about this. "Bathroom Sink" is a great song (and I think highlights Miranda, along with Kacey Musgraves, as a successor of the Mary Chapin Carpenter-style of realism songwriting that is missing in today's country music), but I don't see it being the one to right the ship after the last couple of missteps. "Priscilla", the album's obvious hit, won't see the light of day now, but that still leaves "Another Sunday In The South", "Platinum" and "Girls" that are far more radio-friendly. I prefer "Gravity Is A Bitch", "Babies Making Babies" and "Two Rings Shy" to those three, but they are risky choices that she quite frankly can't afford now. I'd love for "Bathroom Sink" to at least make the top 20, but it will be so disheartening to see it outright flop, which I fear it might. Following a #1 or a top 5, I'd be all for it, but I really don't know if "Bathroom Sink" is the one to bring her back after a couple of real underperformers. I still feel this way. Had this been following a run of big hits, I would think that it's a great left-field idea to release this track, and would even wonder if it was a possible outside contender for Song of the Year somewhere. However following a couple of underperformers, I don't think this is a great idea. We'll see though.

But, why? I get she may not have new music ready, but she has literally no momentum and frankly, I think she needs a break and to lay low for a while.

Yeah, really surprised to see her going for a 5th single from Platinum. This is a nice album track but I'm not sure I like this as a single. I actually think this whole era has been so disappointing in terms of single choices (apart from Automatic, of course). This album had so much potential and it feels like with every wrong single choice, the era died a little, so I don't know if they are expecting this to do better or just want to keep her name out there for a little longer, before a new album. If it's the latter, I'll have to agree with carriekins, a break would be much more beneficial to her before a new release.

This is why people have such an issue with some Carrie Underwood fans. Aww, aren't you judgemental. That's OK. Anyway, I like Miranda, I think this wasn't a good choice, but for them I think they maybe just wanted to release a Miranda solo-write, for the last single, because at this point it probably doesn't matter what the song does.

No, he isn't judgmental. He was replying to a statement that was absurd. You brought up how Carrie will probably only release 4 singles from an album that HASN'T EVEN BEEN RELEASED YET. What is the point of that other than to try to rub people the wrong way?

Surprised they are going with a 5th single. This seemed like a good time for a break from radio before coming back with the right 1st single from the next album. Regardless, this is probably my favorite song on the album so I'm happy to see it being released.

I'm surprised we haven't been given an official add date for this yet... It's November, RCA! You can officially release this song now!

This song sounds like what would happen if Courtney Love decided to make a Hole country record. Both lyrically and sonically.

I'm torn on whether I want to see them bothering to release this at all. Like, I do because I'd hate to see the Platinum era end and I like this one a lot, especially after seeing her performance on the CMAs. But I also don't want it to be thrown out there to fail like "Smokin' and Drinkin'", either. I'd be happy if she just took a break and came back strong next year with new material, and hopefully regain her footing at country radio completely. If they do release this as a final single from Platinum, I really hope they can get it to at least a Top 20 peak.

There is some symbolic value in releasing the track, since it was the only song on the record that she wrote solo. It's probably not worth releasing another single though at this point.

"Bathroom Sink" has started getting spins this week off of the CMA Award performance so I'm assuming RCA will give this an add date tonight in Aircheck and/or Billboard.

I'm probably wrong about this, but after not seeing an adds date announced in Monday's Aircheck or BCU, I'm feeling a bit skeptical that Sony/RCA Nashville will be releasing "Bathroom Sink" or any other Platinum track to radio. For one thing, this ABC News Radio article from October said the following: Perhaps the label was waiting to see what the response to her performance was. If so, then they would have been encouraged by the more than 1.25 million views that Miranda's CMA performance generated on YouTube, which was higher than all of the other performances captured by the capper other than the Chris Stapleton/Justin Timberlake performances (which garnered 8.1 million for "Drink You Away" and 5 million for "Tennessee Whiskey"). On the other hand, unlike Stapleton/Timberlake, all those views didn't translate into that much of a sales bump for "Bathroom Sink" or Platinum (and it's possible views were bumped by divorce-related features on various gossip blogs). Normally, I would point to people's lack of familiarity with the song, but look at what happened with "Tennessee Whiskey." Also, looking at this in as calculated a way as possible, if I'm Miranda's label, then I might prefer to leverage interest in Miranda's first post-divorce statement for her next lead single, especially since the odds of "Bathroom Sink" going anywhere at country radio were pretty low anyway (which would be poor messaging about acceptance of her point of view, too). But watch, I'll be proven wrong and the delay in announcing an adds date will turn out to be more about a Sony Nashville release schedule that will soon launch second singles from Old Dominion, Chris Young and Carrie, and perhaps others like Jake Owen as well.

I just want them to end this entire era. It had so much potential, and then the "Little Red Wagon"/"Smokin' and Drinkin'" fiasco came along after "Somethin' Bad"'s peak in the summer, it all went to moot. Such a shame, but at this point, she should just write and work on a new record, put it out in Q4 of 2016, and work from there.

This has to be one of the most mishandled album eras from a major star in a long time. At this point, it probably does make sense to just move on, which is such a shame considering all of the stellar tracks still left on the album.
