#60. Aaliyah - Are You That Somebody?August 22, 1998 - October 24, 1998Let me cut the intro and say I friggin love this track! Is is it perfect? Not quite. As you may guess, I have a tiny bit of issues with some of the lyrics. They're pretty cringeworthy. "I really need some body", "naugthy naughty", really? However, that doesn't change the fact that I pretty much loved this song from the second I heard it. The production is still the most impressivly produced thing I've heard on the radio yet, like what mad-man came up with those chords. This song does actully sample a riff from a funk track from the 70's, but Timbaland built a rollercoaster of beat around it. This song pretty much took the Puff Daddy-esque sampling, out of the picture, and in with these new, twitchy dance beats, as the charts would later see with tracks like Destiny's Child's "Bug A Boo", and 702's "Where My Girls At". Loved this back then. Still love it now. 10/10
