I've been saying for a while this would be a really good nice step for her! It should be able to get some decent sales for her and build some hype for whenever she releases her next studio album

I would have expected more Gospel, Jesus tinged songs, nonetheless I'm here for it.

Is this a good label move for her?

My Idol girls finally getting out of their Idol contracts and getting to live up to their full potential *tear*
I think this signing to Concord may be a strong indication of what we can expect from her in the future and not just this Christmas album. Concord has never signed an r&b artist before (that I know of); they're more or less a jazz label with a few older rock artists. I'm definitely curious to see how they plan on marketing Fantasia since she's somewhat a different artist for the label to work with.

I'm hoping this is just a 1 off situation for the Christmas album. Going to a label that doesn't know how to market an r&b artist at radio isn't a good look for her. I'm hoping that someone starts a boutique r&b label along the lines of Laface and starts signing these r&b artists that have so much to give, but not a proper label to help execute properly.(Fantasia, Chante moore, Melania Fiona, Deborah Cox, etc).

The one upside is that if Concord's roster is anything to go by, there is absolutely no pressure to sell a certain amount lol. But FWIW they're the label that was behind Ray Charles' Genius Loves Company. Esperanza Spalding is signed there now. Concord is a good look if Fantasia wants to up her 'prestige' status, but it would be prestige in a different circle (and it's a circle that is even more niche-y than the circle she was already in so we're not likely looking at a huge expansion in potential sales here). If she wants to stay connected to urban, I don't know what that label can realistically do for her. They could pull in some help from their parent label (Universal) for some things but that's not really the same as being able to do things yourself...I dunno. But if she's going in a different direction, or her name is solid enough at UAC that she is supported regardless, this might all be moot. I do agree, we really need a nice boutique r&b label for these more UAC-friendly artists. LaFace really benefited from its time period though; r&b was huge then. I refuse to believe there isn't a decently sized market for 'grown folks' r&b., but now no one wants to invest in it. :(

Concord is probably the second best-known jazz label behind Blue Note. It's definitely a good label for her in terms of building her legacy and prestige. The only other labels I could see scooping her up at this point are the small indie R&B labels (eOne or Shanachie ), and then she'll be lucky to have a Top 20 Urban AC hit and move 50k albums total. Those labels are also terrible for promo.

Kinda OT but whoever thought putting her on a duet of Baby It's Cold Outside with CeeLo Green of all people was a good idea is tone deaf at best and nothing less than evil at worst. I'm just gonna act like that track doesn't exist.

The album sounds exactly like I was thinking it would. From previewing it on iTunes —no way in hell am I listening to an *entire* Christmas album when it's still October!— I think the only thing it really needed was one extra uptempo or two. Which I can fix myself tbh ("Jingle Bell Rock" is on the Target edition from what Fantasia posted on Instagram). The album is so lush, with a lot of sax, and she sounds terrific on it. It's predominantly jazzy but with a good amount of soul, blues and rock. I wish she had covered "Jesus Oh What A Wonderful Child"; that was such an obvious song for her to do.

This sounds like a really classy effort. I was hoping for a little more edge to make it more interesting though. And I wish she'd stay the hell away from Ron Fair.

Considering that she rarely sticks to the same producer for every album, I think its a good thing she's found someone who encourages her creativity
