Chris Stapleton "Nobody To Blame" Mercury Nashville Add Date: 11/9 Songwriters: Stapleton/Bales/Bowman The official single from the CMA Nominated album Traveller (which tells me this will be what he plays on CMA Awards broadcast if given 90 seconds to play). (Note: Cover art is just a mock-up by me).

I really want to hear radio start playing Chris Stapleton on the radio.

I really want to hear radio start playing Chris Stapleton on the radio. Maybe they'll have to if he beats the others for best new artist, vocalist or album nods (I think he's more likely to get the Album nod than the others).

Not the song I would've gone with as a single choice, but still solid. "Parachute" or "When the Stars Come Out" sounded more like something I was expecting as the next single.

Would have preferred my two favorites from the album, "Parachute" and "Tennessee Whiskey". As for his performance at the ACM's, I hope he comes out and plays "Might As Well Get Stoned" just to add a little edge to the show.

I would too but in a perfect world I wanna see him do something acoustically to completely stun the audience/world. Something like Whiskey and You.

So was Fire Away never a single then? I saw a thread for that song last week I swear.

So was Fire Away never a single then? I saw a thread for that song last week I swear. I don't think it was an "official single.". It was never given an add date and wasn't on any of the most notable sources (All Access, Music Row, Country Aircheck, Billboard). It was given an adds date to AAA but it's only source for country was that it was serviced through Hit Disc. I think Mercury just decided to give country radio the opportunity to play it but they ultimately went with something different, on the cusp of the CMA Awards, where Stapleton is a nominee in multiple categories.

Fire Away is such a good song.... This is ok but it is one of a couple of songs I usually skip over. Radio won't play either song anyway...

ETA: wait, she's a woman. NVM, my point might be moot.

I like this song, but Fire Away is much better in my opinion (not that I was thinking any of this options would get much airplay either way... ) btw, was he ever announced as a CMA performer?

I love this. I remember really enjoying this one when I saw him open for Little Big Town earlier this year. I think it's a much better choice than "Fire Away." I know most on here like it, but I couldn't handle it.

Not one of my favorites (I would rate this as a bottom 4 on the album--aka better than the majority of songs from any other artist). Depending on the CMA's I can see this song, possibly, getting to the top 40. While Outlaw/traditional in a lot of ways the lyrics may have a chance to resonate with the younger fans of country music. This is one of the 3 songs on the album that I believe have top 40 potential ("Might as well get stoned" based on the lyrics, and "parachute" based on the upbeat tempo and being the most "modern country" sounding

Not one of my faves from the album, but that doesn't mean much because there's literally not a song on the album I dislike. I'm all for hearing a Chris Stapleton song, any Chris Stapleton song, on the radio.

Love it, also probably the most radio friendly song on the album excluding the title track.

Yes!! Chris is set to perform on the CMAs. People are about to realize his potential and clever songwriting skills. This will be a great CMA Awards!

"Tennessee Whiskey" is now #2 on iTunes All-Genre chart. It's always been one of my two favorites from the album, and I can't figure out why they chose this over "Tennessee Whiskey". I could see this performance make them change their minds though, as I'd imagine "Tennessee Whiskey" is going to get some curiosity spins this week.

"Tennessee Whiskey" is a cover of former #1 song by George Jones. Maybe they want to release original material to radio.
This could get lots of curiosity spins, but not sure if radio would make it a top 10 hit since it's already such a well-known song by George Jones.

I actually like this single selection. It's one of the most radio-friendly songs on the album and it's actually one of my personal favorites on Traveller -- the instrumentation is fan-freakin'-tastic -- along with the production. "Parachute" would have been the choice I would have made but this one would have been a close second. This really feels like a songs from 10-15 years ago. It reminds me of something that would have been on Anthony Smith's If That Ain't Country album.
I do think this will chart and radio will pay more attention to it than the title track but I still don't see radio stations giving this one more than light rotation. The CMA Awards will certainly help, though.

Congratulations to Chris Stapleton on the CMA Awards received last night. Well deserved. I think he's among the great vocal talents to come along in a generation. I was very surprised "Traveler" single wasn't a big hit at radio. Seems I was not alone in thinking that.
