I'd love to see "Parachute" as a single.

I watched his performance on SNL, but I just don't like his style of music, and the first song he did on SNL was "yelling" than actual singing. I understand that the sound might not be liked by all and I completely can see that (as his style is rooted in 70's outlaw country) but the "yelling" part is what gets me. It's simply not the case. It's a range found in so few artists. That's like saying Mariah Carey "screams" or that Freddie Mercury is "yelling" when he sings. The fact is the range is so beyond what the radio ear has programmed us to believe that it can sometimes be heard as something it isn't.

Don't look now, but Traveller is rapidly approaching the total sales of albums like Luke Bryan's Kill The Lights (865k), Sam Hunt's Montevallo (980k), Brantley Gilbert's Just As I Am (950k), and Jason Aldean's Old Boots, New Dirt (1.1 mil). Obviously those albums are still selling (some more than others), but Chris is out-selling most of them by a ratio of at least 3 to 1 right now. (Note: total sales numbers are courtesy of Roughstock). Total sales for Traveller are at almost 750k now. According to HITS, Traveller sold another 29,000 albums this past week (35,000 when streaming is included). The actual SoundScan number will probably be slightly different, but not by much. Anyway, no other country artist sold 10k this past week (again, in pure albums sold). Sam Hunt came closest with just under 10,000, Eric Church sold just over 7000, and Carrie Underwood and Luke Bryan were just under 7000. Chris has already blown past Zac Brown Band's Jekyll + Hyde (603,000) which was released a week earlier than Traveller was. And the 29,000 number doesn't reflect Chris' Saturday Night Live appearance, either. The 29,000 sold was for the period of Friday the 8th through Thursday the 14th. It'll be interesting to see how big of a bump Chris will see this week, due to his SNL performance. Meanwhile, "Nobody To Blame" has slowed up a bit at radio -- it's currently sitting at #21 on Billboard, and I'm not sure if it'll crack the top 20 on tomorrow's chart. Tim and Blake will both go recurrent, but it looks like Brett Eldredge and Cole Swindell could pass Chris. They both had big weeks, whereas Chris apparently didn't see very many top 20 conversions this past week. Still, I think this one is likely to pick up the pace again soon. Chris is simply dominating the album sales chart, and I just don't see any way that radio could ignore the single. "Nobody To Blame" was #38 on the iTunes all-genre chart this morning, which is just incredible. In comparison, let's take a look at some other hot-selling country radio singles: Luke's "Home Alone Tonight" was #30 (with far more airplay), Sam's "Break Up In A Small Town" was #23 (again, with far more airplay), ZBB's "Beautiful Drug" was #58, Carrie's "Heartbeat" was #65, Brett's "Drunk On Your Love" was #37, and Cole's "You Should Be Here" was #40.

Glad his SNL performance is still getting the media buzz it deserves. Do y'all think Morgane will be signed by a label or do you think she will just be a part of Chris Stapleton's band?

Somewhere - NPR's piece announcing the Southern Family compilation, I think - Dave Cobb confirmed that he was working with Morgane on a solo album coming this year. Wouldn't surprise me terribly if she's on his Elektra imprint Low Country Sound, or if she, like Chris, signs to Mercury Nashville.

Thought I might share this. So, I had my introductory presentation in Advanced Public Speaking on Wednesday morning (yesterday). For my class, we were told to pick something we are passionate about and share it with the rest of the class. We still had to follow standard public speaking procedure (we were being graded on it after all), which included keeping it to just 5 minutes of total time. I could have easily discussed hockey but since at least two others did that topic, I chose the fascinating world of radio and the Country Music industry, lol. I was hoping I just didn't completely bore them. Anyway, I started out my speech by asking if anyone liked Country music? Just four hands were raised of the 35 people there...However, after I was finished, I answered a couple questions and the first one was a guy who said he did not like Country music except for one song..."Parachute" by Chris Stapleton. I immediately said how happy I was he loved the song and asked if he heard Stapleton's album? He said no but he reiterated that he only liked that one song -- he loved Chris' voice. I politely said that I suggested he check the rest of his musical catalog. Then that sparked a big discussion about Stapleton. The next person asked "Was he the one who performed with JT at the CMA's? I said "Yes." The guy said "That was one of the most amazing performances I've ever heard." I then went into the backstory of Stapleton's radio career and how he finally broke through on mainstream radio. Some people even wanted to make sure they knew the exact name of his new single that I mentioned ("Nobody To Blame"), so they could listen to it. Stapleton's CMA performance with Justin Timberlake on the CMA Awards continues to have people talking. I'm sure I just convinced some new people to discover his music and the best part was that they're the ones that brought him up, not me.

The thing with music is it, truly is the only thing on this planet that knows no boundaries. Good music doesn't care if your white or black, rich or poor, gay or straight, muslim or jewish. Very few artists have the ability to penetrate that thought process and Chris is one of the few that can "break the molds" with good music.

At work I usually have my laptop out playing music and I had Chris' album playing the other day. About 10 people stopped and asked who was playing. "Sometimes I Cry" seems to be the song that caught the most attention with 4 of the 10 stopping for that song. I love watching people hear Chris sing for the first time it's wonderful.

Chris Stapleton performs a song called "Either Way" at CRS today and gets a huge ovation for it. Stapleton hints at the fact that its about time to begin his next record.
"Either Way" was written by Stapleton, Kendell Marvel and Tim James. Lee Ann Womack cut the song for her Call Me Crazy album in 2008.

Oh...my...lanta. This is fantastic. I absolutely love the instrumental guitar riffs at the beginning and this is such a breath of fresh air amidst all of the FLG, Luke, Aldean, and 'bro!' smog that's still lingering on the radio waves (at least imo, correct me if I'm wrong). I have got to give this album a listen...or two.

I'd love to see "Parachute" as a single. I'm listening to the album right now, and that one is all sorts of amazing. His vocals are on point.

The Highway started spinning "Parachute" on their 'On The Horizon' show.
Buzz Brainard said it wasn't officially confirmed to be Chris' next single but he kind of hinted at the fact that they're pulling for it to be.

"Parachute" would be a great choice. It's probably the most uptempo song on the album and would allow his vocals to shine. I still think "Tennessee Whiskey" is a no-brainer choice for next single, but I certainly wouldn't object to "Parachute". I don't know how the promotion or whatever would be handled, but I actually think rock radio, particularly AAA and Mainstream rock, would be interested in spinning "Parachute" as well. It's gives me a Stevie Ray Vaughan and .38 Special kind of vibe. I particularly imagine the subset population that enjoys Alabama Shakes, The Black Keys, and Cage The Elephant would also dig Chris Stapleton, as he carries a similar revivalist vibe to his music.

I'd love to see "Parachute" as well but come on, "Tennessee Whiskey" is a freaking hit!! It's far from my favorites on the album, but it's obviously the one that has sold the most and the one that obviously some audience has really responded to.
I won't be mad about "Parachute" (I love the song personally), but I'm just left flustered as to why they don't go for the obvious hit.
If Sam Hunt can get "Break Up In A Small Town" released to radio due to its extreme sales and popularity, there's no reason Chris' label can't do the same. Ugh.....

I'd love to see "Parachute" as well but come on, "Tennessee Whiskey" is a freaking hit!! It's far from my favorites on the album, but it's obviously the one that has sold the most and the one that obviously some audience has really responded to. I can certainly see the argument in favor of "Tennessee Whiskey" as a single, but then again, it probably already feels like a single to a lot of people, especially those who don't listen to the radio a lot and assume that most of the popular songs online (and we all know that "Tennessee Whiskey" essentially went viral on YouTube and social media) are fairly popular on the radio as well. So I can actually see arguments both in favor of a "Tennessee Whiskey" release and against it. "Parachute" is my personal favorite on the album and I think it would sound great on the radio and do well on the charts (for the record, I think "Tennessee Whiskey" would do well, too). When I first listened to Traveller, "Parachute" struck me as an obvious single choice, along with "When The Stars Come Out" (although to a bit of a lesser extent). But it's clear that, between the two, "Parachute" is the front-runner. I think "Fire Away" could also work ( Kurt actually started this thread for "Fire Away" back in September, but Chris' label never pushed the song to country radio and I don't know if it ever got much airplay on the AAA format either). Another option would be a re-release of "Traveller", but at this point I'm pretty sure it'll come down to either "Parachute" or "Tennessee Whiskey".

They'll likely release one more from this on the record before he moves onto the second one.

They'll likely release one more from this on the record before he moves onto the second one. Unfortunately, that's what I've been thinking too. I'd love another 2-3 singles since we've really only gotten one, but the album has been out for almost 10 months already. It's had such an unusual run, in that it didn't start selling until 6 months after its release, and it didn't produce a top 20 single until about 9 months after its release. I mean, "Nobody To Blame" is essentially acting as the lead single (that's certainly how radio sees it) and it won't peak until the album has been out for nearly a year. So yeah, I think we'll probably only get one more single after NTB and then Chris will move on to new music.

BTW, if you want to see Chris perform this and "Parachute", NBC is re-running his SNL episode this weekend in its regular time slot.

He held up a platinum record tonight so it looks like Traveller is now certified. The label staff and as at the show tonight so it seems he was presented with it pre show. It remained on stage for the first half of the show.

Two recent ones are Garth Brooks' "Man Against Machine" (got overshipped but still...) and Lionel Ritchie's "Tuskegee".
