Decided to splurge and get the Target exclusive orange double vinyl set off ebay. Snatched it for $25/US which is a pretty good deal I think. Anyhow, does anyone have it? How is the sound quality?

I was going to buy it but other than a few songs, I don't think this is the kind of album that would translate well to vinyl. There is just too much digital stuff. I would imagine Filthy and Supplies especially to sound pretty horrible. But Higher Higher, Morning Light, and Montana probably sound nice. The Target stores in NYC still have the vinyl but I bought the CD, so I'm good. Not everything is meant for vinyl.

Discogs.com has a few reviews of the vinyl and most are saying that the quality is actually pretty good. I just thought if someone here had the vinyl they could maybe elaborate a bit more on its sound quality. To be honest I bought it mostly because of the translucent orange vinyl and the better cover art than the standard edition.

I mean...you still get the mp3 files so if you're willing to spend more money for translucent orange vinyl and cover art, I guess it makes sense!

I feel like this rollout was so messy. I didn't even realize his album had already come out. I am listening now, and am enjoying it, but I am just confused as to how they seemingly dropped the ball so hard.

Listened to the album in full for the first time, definitely a lot better than I expected and while I still don't like Supplies/Man of the Woods I can see how they work in the context of the album. His melodies/vocals/production are top-notch for the most part, I love how this sounds like an expensive album, every song is fully fleshed out from a production and structural element, and he's great at creating a cohesive album. His biggest weakness has always been his lyrics, so this woodsman theme destined this album to be a failure because it's they stick out as ridiculous more so than his other work. The marketing was a fucking disaster, it definitely looked like he was trying to get the country demographics and they were banking on the fact white people who love country and would never give black RnB singers the time of day would accept and love it from a fellow cracker without hesitation. Instead, it left a lot of people feeling duped and made him look ridiculous, especially with the music videos for Supplies/Man of the Woods.
Let's be real though, it's his fourth real album era despite being his fifth album, most artists are lucky if they get past the sophomore album without going through a backlash period. He and Taylor definitely delayed their downfalls longer than most, but it was inevitable. He'll either learn and recover from it, or he won't and still continue to have a bigger fanbase and legacy than most.
All in all, I'm happy people are calling him on his shitty behavior and weak lyrics, but the album is better than I would have expected and the first time I've really enjoyed his work since Future love/sex Sounds. I wish The 20/20 Experience never existed because that made me lose all interest in him as an artist for a while.

The bestselling album in the US for a second week. According to a Variety interview from a few days ago, the tour has already grossed north of $100 million with over 700,000 tickets sold so far. He announced 36 more shows in the past week for a total of 102 with dates for Oceania and possibly South America to come. It's confirmed he's performing Say Something with Chris tomorrow at the BRITs.

He just performed Midnight Summer Jam with Say Something at the BRITs. Excellent performance!
I think it would work as a single. He hasn't released anything this energetic in years.

While the rollout wasn't optimal for the album, I feel like Filthy was also an instant era killer. What a bizzare, godawful choice for a first single. I don't think it would've been a massive smash or anything, but I think Say Something at minimum could've been a biggish hit, and if they weren't so hellbent on the woodsman theme I think Supplies sounds like a smash too. But the bizzare contrast between the two combined with a lead single no one liked made the era dead before it begun I think.

I love Filthy but I have made my peace with the fact that it was a poor lead single choice and doesn't belong on this album. Also, after spending enough time with this album:
1. 20/20 Vol. 1 2. MOTW 3. FS/LS 4. Justified 5. 20/20 Vol. 2
FWIW, I think Justified is really good and I was gonna put it on equal footing with MOTW at first, but the production is waaay better on MOTW. Production and vocal arrangement really carry MOTW. I just can't with LOTL. It is the Losing My Way of the album. Not even the production is good enough to save it. Ultimately, I can do without Young Man and, depending on the day, The Hard Stuff. Jessica's Buffalo Bill interlude doesn't exist.

I feel like this rollout was so messy. I didn't even realize his album had already come out. I am listening now, and am enjoying it, but I am just confused as to how they seemingly dropped the ball so hard. I think they overestimated his pull and the impact of the Super Bowl. It was somewhere between a traditional rollout and a "surprise" release, and now seems a bit stranded. The SB obviously helps a lot, but only for that one tracking period and then you're back to reality and left to your own devices. If the new music doesn't have a song that connects on a large scale, it's going to disappoint. There's little way around it. I was just looking at the Say Something thread, and seeing it showing signs of peaking already. He's an interesting one to observe right now. He's a 20-year vet now, and his last big hit was for a kid's movie 2 years ago. His personal studio work doesn't seem to be connecting this time around and there's no big radio smash - which could be the material - or it could just be that his days as a hit-producing pop star are naturally drawing to a close. I never count out artists as established as he is. Anyway, he could have come back with an easy, universal, danceable hit song to launch the album at the Super Bowl and probably be sitting pretty right now. He didn't, or at least he didn't succeed if that's what he thought was happening. But I respect him following his own creative muse, even if I'm not enjoying the material as much I have in the past, or his performance on the Hot 100.

The tour looks like it's his best yet! Incredible stage and production. Also, easily the most he's ever danced during a show. Set list: 1. Filthy 2. Midnight Summer Jam 3. LoveStoned 4. SexyBack 5. Man Of The Woods 6. Higher Higher 7. Senorita 8. Suit & Tie (with Sly, Slick and Wicked's Sho Nuff intro) 9. My Love (with Big Sean's Blessings intro) 10. Cry Me A River 11. Mirrors 12. Drink You Away 13. Flannel 14. Until The End Of Time 15. Morning Light 16. What Goes Around...Comes Around 17. Say Something 18. Montana 19. Summer Love 20. Rock Your Body 21. Supplies 22. Can’t Stop The Feeling!

Mess. Just noticed that Bruno Mars' 2016 album is above him on the Top 200.

Mess. Just noticed that Bruno Mars' 2016 album is above him on the Top 200. By one spot and what's surprising about that? The current Billboard 200 is overly skewed toward streaming and albums with big hits. Justin's album is steady in sales. Outsold 8 of the albums above it in actual sales.

No Sauce?!? But, otherwise, that setlist is strong. Lemme see if I can find some cheap tickets. Also, YESSSSSS for Flannel!

If Say Something was the lead single, I think the album would be a lot more appreciated. It's the most accessible and it's not as, well, weird as just about everything else on MOTW.

Midnight Summer Jam Higher Higher Flannel Morning Light Montana
He always performs future singles on tour so I'm guessing the next one will be one of these. I think they'll go with Midnight Summer Jam or Montana.
