Hey there! I had a look around and noticed that there was no UK Singles Chart thread, so I thought I'd update one for anyone who's interested in non-US charts. I might do other European charts if there's enough interest. :)
The UK Top 40 chart is compiled by the Official Charts Company, based on sales of downloads, CDs, vinyl and audio streams (not YouTube, in case you were asking). The chart is released every Friday.

#40 debut for Eyes Shut is a bit of a step down from King debuting at #1 and Shine at #2.

#40 debut for Eyes Shut is a bit of a step down from King debuting at #1 and Shine at #2. It could be a 'step down', but you should consider that "Eyes Shut" was released as an instant grat prior to the release of Communion there and it was announced as a single two months after its release, becoming their first single post-album release. That said, it's not technically a debut because the song has been charting for eight weeks in the 41-100 region (in two different chart runs) and nine including its entry at #40. Even more, it reached at #45 when "Shine" debuted at #2 back in July, so it was also their most successful album track before it was officially released as a single.

Oh, ok, didn't know about the instant grat. So it's 'new' because it's new to the top 40

I'm guessing CMA counts against this chart, because otherwise I imagine Hello would've been #1 this week. Then again, Sorry was also #1 last week, and that would've been its CMA period...I guess Bieber just has streams on his side.

Here the streams to unit counts ratio is 100:1, but Sorry had about 5.5mil streams at one point which is the equivalent of half a million sales, which is easily enough to get a UK #1 these days :'( Anyway, I thought that just like the Billboard thread, I'm going to do a "this is how the top 10 looked 5/10/20 years ago" segment every weekend after the new charts, stay tuned...

Then again, Sorry was also #1 last week, and that would've been its CMA period...I guess Bieber just has streams on his side. The UK doesn't do CMA. Streaming is just huge there at the moment... it actually accounts for about 74% of the chart right now. "Hello" has actually been #1 on the sales-only chart for the past 2 weeks.

I've seen most of you using the acronym CMA here, but what does it mean? I'm lost. :(

I've seen most of you using the acronym CMA here, but what does it mean? I'm lost. :( Complete My Album. Spent quite a while thinking it was "Country Music Awards", and being totally confused by the context in which it was constantly being used, until I eventually figured it out.

Also it's worth pointing out that this is the first time Driving Home For Christmas peaked in the Top 40 even though it's nearly 30 years old now.
So there you go, the last chart of the year! Next week I'll finish this thread with the 2015 Year End Chart once it's released on NYE and open a new 2016 thread. Happy holidays!

The longevity of "What Do You Mean?" by Bieber in the UK is amazing...17 weeks and STILL in the top 5! Not to mention that he has two other songs in the top 3, and notched 3 #1s in the span of 4 months.
He is killing it, loving his success in the UK! Hopefully he does well on the year-end charts.
