Good to decent material, especially as singles.
She herself is nothing in many realms. I'd compare her to paint drying, but that'd be an insult to those who work hard to fill our economy with paint.

Yeah, she's never been able to sing a lick and she can't perform for sh*t. She had a nice platform with Disney and rode that to a career in music, otherwise she'd be working at an Express near you. But she's pretty and has cute singles, that's all that's really necessary I guess.
I do love the part in that performance where part of her dress get wrapped around the microphone, I like that she played it off with a laugh.

To be honest I love her voice(even if she isn't the strongest live, but she has improved in that, as well), lately she has amazing material + she's absolutely beautiful. These 3 aspects for me.

This performance was as lively as a morgue.
Selena has a likeable personality, a pretty face, a Justin Beiber's ex claim to fame, and marketable material. That's enough to sell records, but I have no idea why her team insists on making her sing live when she could be a far more successful performer if she just lipped.

Zero musical talent, but she has an excellent team that helped her transition pretty well from earlier acting experience to music. I also think she somehow gets better material than her peers that are more musically talented than her. Again, maybe just her team or the fact that I doubt she cares about having input in the music like I feel some others do?

I think she's gotten a little better since she started out.
I remember seeing her perform "Come and Get It" at (i think) the MTV Music Awards and thinking I've seen better at my old High School talent shows.
Oh and her vocals are pretty bad in the clip up above.
Maybe she hasn't improved..........

I'm guessing she's got good working relationships with her team and collaborators. Whenever I've networked with anyone in the industry, they almost always cite being "a cool hang" (as one contact put it) as key to long-term success.
I think that's why we often see mediocre artists succeed. Talent will only get you so far; knowing the right people and cultivating friendships with them is much more valuable in the long run.
Also, being a pretty white Hispanic girl broadens her demographic and territory possibilities significantly.

She's Beautiful. Her material in music has changed a lot since her debut album "Kiss & Tell". Always changes in all of her eras.She has a great personality plus she is Best friends with Taylor Swift.She is very likable that people can related to.

I am not her biggest fan, but she has some hot bops. She is no Maria Callas, but she can carry a tune. Her live performances have improved considerably.
There are plenty of "singers" who this question could be aimed at but Selena seems like such an odd choice for it.

To be honest I think I liked her when she was singing harmless dance pop bops like Naturally, Love you like like a love song, A day without rain. Now she's trying to grow up but without much improvement either in stage presence or vocals. Background vocals help make most of her latest performances  There are far too many singers much better than her with worse luck (AI alums for example ?) |

 She puts out excellent pop music and had a great platform to launch a singing career through Disney. And she's still in the music industry because she's consistently had radio and commercial success since 2009. She puts out catchy tracks and makes record companies money. This thread is dumb. |
