The Billboard article link has been pulled from the site and it confirms she sold 3.38 million. Let that marinate.

Adele not just beat the record, but destroyed it with a 40% margin!!
I can see this record standing for a long long time. The only one who can break it among current artists is Adele herself, but even for her it would prove difficult.
BTW shouldn't there be an early report for Friday sales released by now?

Billboard already released the official pure album sales a day early. Tomorrow we will get the full breakdown including TEA and SEA included.

These are such amazing numbers. I was hopeful that she would maybe sell around 2 million (which would have been ridiculous on its own). These numbers are unlike anything we've seen or, I think, will ever see again. What a historic week.

Illegal downloading, streaming, people buying tracks over albums - the sales climate is so much harsher today than the heyday of 2000.
I hate to say never, but I think we just saw a record set that won't ever be toppled - - I'm glad I got to be part of it.

"Never" is a strong word. I will go with "not any time in the foreseeable future". A music related event so compelling that it draws the non-music buying public back to the stores is what it takes.
Whether it is the death of Princess Diana or Adele releases a new album there may be some event that happens in the future to repeat this. Hard to think of one a the moment but can't say "never"
