If it hits 3 million...Oh my God.
The SNL performance should be pretty great also. Does she have any other promo in the first week? Late night shows? Talk shows?

Halifax has two HMVs, one of which received 493 and the other 394 I think (I'm guessing they got 500 and 400 respectively and staff bought some before they input inventory?)
To compare, I remember they each received 150 and 100 copies respectively of the deluxe of Born This Way when that came out (plus a fraction each of the regular).
I think their website updates in real time or at least daily so I'll check tonight how many each sold.

Since the N Sync record looks like it will be destroyed, next one to watch for:
Soundscan record for most units sold in a single week of a CD (single, album or otherwise):
3,446,000 for Candle In The Wind 1997 - Elton John 10/11/1997

More: hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=298636Friday, November 20, 2015 ADELE EARLY RESPONSE: BEYOND BELIEF (UPDATE)Regarding the first-day response to the new Adele album, 25, the term βfeeding frenzyβ doesnβt sufficiently describe what's happening here in the Statesβand presumably around the world. Early sales are unlike anything we've seen in the modern era. The numbers are so extraordinary, we donβt have anything to properly benchmark them against. Digitally, 25 should sell over 1m, giving it the biggest-ever digital sales week. Physically, however, there havenβt been enough huge titles released since the new Friday street day for us to develop a model on which to base 25βs trend. Could Walmart and Target combined sell north of a million? That would be nearly twice the 527k the two accounts sold collectively on Taylor Swiftβs 1989, which went on to sell nearly 1.3m in its debut week. Amazon, which broke the preorder record earlier this week with 100k+, now must get them all shipped by Monday night in order to count for next weekβs chart. And what of Thanksgiving Day, the last day in 25βs first chart week? Will the holiday hurt the albumβs momentum or help get it over the hump? With many retailers open on Thanksgiving evening, will that provide the last-minute surge to move 25 beyond the 2.4m first week record set by NSYNC in 2000 and possibly even hit 3m in its first week. At this point, 2m+ is a lock. Can it hit 3m? Stay tuned. Stay tune for further updates.

If she does 3 million first week............ Just imagine what her second week will be like with black friday. Second week of 1.5 million+? Then a 3rd week of 1 million+ is possible? Omg I can't, she's totally going to match 21's success in the US at this rate and the second single hasn't even been serviced to radio yet.
In 5 weeks she could sell 6-8 million copies of the album... Then there's a whole year/year and a half of more promotion for the campaign (subsequent single releases), another Q4 to promote it again and then the 2017 grammys......
This album is totally going diamond in the US, I'm calling it.

I wonder if they are hyping the 3 million, as no other music event has come close to breaking this record. Still, amazing though.
Imagine if she had had the album streaming. She would have passed 3 million EASILY. I, personally, will not be getting the album until it is on Apple Music, as I am a subscriber.

I wonder why people are so pissed off by that. Do they not know how long it took until 21 was up for streaming on Spotify? It took over a year and a half from when that album was released before it was available on streaming services due to the exact same reason this time as well.

Let's just relax. The hype is starting to get too real. I'm still not convinced it will hit 2 million let alone 3+ million lol. As the articles have said, it is still too early to use predictions for albums with this new release schedule. Also, people thinking her second week will be 1.5 million+? The drop is probably going to be much steeper even with the "holidays" How many more people do you think can buy the album right away? lol I'm not trying to be a killjoy, I'm just trying to stay grounded. Then when it does hit 3 million I will get the excitement juices flowin! :)

This has already sold 1 million in digital albums and has 100k Amazon preorders and you think it won't hit 2 million?

I just don't see people waiting for this album. A lot of people are not going to wait nearly a week to pick it up on Black Friday/weekend. I mean, of course, it will sell a lot of albums, but I don't think it is going to do anything outrageous beyond what it would have done on a regular weekend. Is it discounted at retailers? I don't recall seeing it in any major ads, if so, that would make a difference. Just my opinion.

People can and will wait for this or any album, otherwise sales would always be nil for major releases after the first day/week. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Lol people getting so sensitive. It's just called being realistic. Also, I didn't read it as it already sold a million digital copies. I thought they said it WOULD sell at least a million digital copies.

A lot of people wait because they might not get paid, need to listen to the album a few times or simply haven't heard about it yet (difficult to not hear about it, but there will be a good amount of people who haven't). Black friday has a notable affect on albums as shown in previous years, so I don't see why Adele will be exempt from the boost of Black Friday. If anything, people will pick it up as they're buying other stuff (it increases visiting of people to stores, so higher probabilty of people buying it). Not to mention it has 7 target ads currently running and major promotion coming up. It'll likely be filling many stockings this christmas too.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Again, I'm not saying it won't sell more. I know how albums work and sell lol. But this album is a different experience. I think a lot more people are going out to get it NOW over the standard wait that you are describing. I can't imagine that 6 million people are going to purchase this album before Christmas. It just is so unrealistic for this kind of stuff, no one is used to it. And we all know that numbers and press releases by HDD or Billboard are greatly extended to drive click bait. We've seen many times they pull predictions that are often way lower or way higher. The album has been at physical retail for well under 24 hours.

Even if it drops 80%, it will sell over 500k in its second week.

Again, I'm well aware of how Black Friday works. I do believe it will be a very reliable seller for the rest of the year. I just think it will get a lot of sales in the original week over the Black Friday week.

Didn't Hits and Billboard under-estimate Beiber? They initially projected 350k but it ended up doing 506k (and well over 600k with streaming). While 3 million is probably on the ULTRA high end, I don't think expecting 2-2.5M is unreasonable either.

I thought they said it WOULD sell at least a million digital copies. No one's being sensitive though? Just counteracting/disagreeing with your opinion is all. In regards to the numbers reported by HDD/Billboard, in this case I believe them to be justified given the album is the most pre-ordered album of all time, with over 500k pre-orders and HITS having good reason to believe that based on early sales it should sell 2 million+ by the end of the week. That's not hype, that's looking at the figures and coming up with a realistic expectation (and 2 million+ is realistic given how big the album is. I mean it has 7 songs in the top 10 of US iTunes at the moment, that's insane!).
