What would be considered a "disappointment" for the first week? Clearly, anything over a million is obviously amazing, but with the amount of spectacle and buzz surrounding this, I think it is safe to say anything under breaking NSYNCS record would be considered disappointing based on how often it was brought up. LOL. Stop. Nothing about this release is disappointing in 2015.

Looks like she beat Britney's record in 1 day too. O. I didn't realize that with the numbers given, but it was going to happen either way. At least, Britney held the record for more than 15 years.

Clearly, anything over a million is obviously amazing, but with the amount of spectacle and buzz surrounding this, I think it is safe to say anything under breaking NSYNCS record would be considered disappointing based on how often it was brought up. The fact that the normally conservative Billboard is stating 2.5 million as a probability (while the normally speculative Hits was all "Man, we don't even KNOW anymore") indicates that it's all but a given now. IIRC, BB would not even hint at 1989 breaking Britney's record. We still don't know for sure that she's going to get there though, so I think if she fell just short (say, 2.3 to 2.41) it would not be terribly bruising to anyone except chart record fanatics. 2 to 2.3 million would be debatable; on one hand it feels silly to be disappointed in an album for blowing past 2 million in a week, but expectations have been set higher. Anything under 2 million would feel like a letdown to almost everyone though, simply because we've been told for over a week now that 2 million is definitively a done deal. I can't believe she sold over 1 million digitally in just one day! That 900k figure doesn't even count the preorders, apparently, and definitely doesn't account for the physical sales or other digital retailers. Just...wow. As for that top 25 list I own 7 legally. Bodyguard is the only one I had on cassette. (This is Cynthia btw. I am too lazy to log into my own account )

If that's true then it could have sold 1.8 million+ first day... I hope we get a good estimate from HITS on first day total including physicals. I have a feeling this album is doing 3 million+ first week now.

To miss 2.4 million would mean that the album falls off a cliff after the first day. I don't see that happening.
A one million first day at iTunes could mean 1.3-1.5 million there for the first week. All you need is another million CDs and the record is toast - and that doesn't include other digital outlets.

I have five of that top 20 list (I had Usher's album at one point, but I sold it.) 25 will make it six.

900k on iTunes on Day 1 is wild! I wonder if they are hyping the 3 million, as no other music event has come close to breaking this record. Still, amazing though. Imagine if she had had the album streaming. She would have passed 3 million EASILY. I, personally, will not be getting the album until it is on Apple Music, as I am a subscriber. You'll be waiting awhile. This probably won't be on streaming until next summer. Well I've heard the album isn't great so I can wait, or just illegally download.

I have a feeling this album is doing 3 million+ first week now. The way Billboard wrote it, it seemed they were saying the 900k were sold on "day 1." Due to the way iTunes treats preorders now (i.e. letting album sales show up on their chart beforehand instead of waiting until day of release to add the preorders into it and send an album zooming to #1), I figured this meant that preorders weren't being counted in that 1-day sales total either. The way preorders are treated is never really clear though, so I should have put a question mark after 'apparently.'

If what you're saying is right, it could've done 1.2 million alone on iTunes first day. I am so excited to see what it's going to do first week overall. I'm thinking 3 million could be in sight. I wonder if it does do 3 million+ first week, if it can manage 2 million+ second week with black friday?

I'll never understand why people pay to rent music. Because how many dozen albums have you bought and never listen to any more? Not every consumer is a collector

I bought it, and I haven't bought an album in years. I'd be damned if I'm not apart of this history making moment! Hope she crosses 3 million.

After a day on sale, forecasters say '25' could sell at least 2.5 million in its first week in the U.S. After one day on sale, Adele's 25 appears set to break *NSYNC's long-standing one-week Nielsen-era U.S. album sales record of 2.42 million sold, according to industry forecasters. Sources say the set is on track to sell at least 2.5 million in pure album sales in its first week, and sold more than 900,000 copies alone through the iTunes Store on its first day of release. The 10 Most Heartbreaking Lyrics From Adele's '25' 25 was released on Nov. 20 through XL/Columbia Records. It's Adele's third studio album. *NSYNC currently owns the single largest sales week for an album since Nielsen Music began tracking point-of-sale music purchases in 1991. (Prior to 1991, there was no authoritative music sales tracking service in the U.S. and thus, it was mostly unknown how many copies of an album or song/single were sold in a single week.) *NSYNC's No Strings Attached debuted with 2,416,000 sold in the week ending March 26, 2000. No Strings Attached has since remained the only album to sell 2 million copies in the U.S. in a single week. Adele's '25' Won't Be On Streaming Services Nielsen Music's tracking week runs Friday through Thursday each week, so 25's first week will conclude on Nov. 26. Billboard is scheduled to report 25's debut week sales on Nov. 29, once Nielsen has finished processing its weekly data. Before 25's release, it was reported that the album shipped 3.6 million physical copies to retailers. In addition, sources were forecasting 25's CD configuration to sell 1.5 million in its first week, while its digital edition could move another 1 million (meaning, its first week might be at least 2.5 million in total). Now perhaps the question is: How much bigger can 25 get? Will it blow past the 2.5 million threshold? Can it hit 3 million? And what will 25 sell in its second and third week? Could it become the first album to sell a million copies in more than one week? Adele Powers Through Lifetime of Regret on '25': Album Review If 25 sells as expected, it will become the 20th album to sell at least a million copies in a single week in the Nielsen era. It would also instantly be the largest selling album of 2015 in total, surpassing the sales of Taylor Swift's 1989, which has sold 1.74 million this year (through Nov. 12). 25 is also on course to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart (dated Dec. 12), which would give the diva her second No. 1. She first led the list with her last album, 21, which spent 24 nonconsecutive weeks atop the list -- most weeks at No. 1 for an album by a woman. 21 has sold 11.23 million copies in the U.S., and is the tenth-largest selling album of the Nielsen era. www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/6770264/adele-25-nsync-no-strings-attached-nielsen-soundscan-billboard-charts Wait so if it's 2.5 million in PURE album sales, doesn't that mean she's projected to sell around 3 million total?

It's hard to keep track since billboard changes their formulas frequently.
On a side note, 25, 21, and 19 are all in the iTunes top 10. She's set for an astronomical week.

I hope 19 will pass 3 million+ and 21 12 million+ by the end of the campaign. I think it's possible given Adele is eligible for the 2017 grammys.

I wouldn't think so though. 10 downloads = 1 TEA (Track Equivalent Album) 1500 streams = 1 SEA (Stream Equivalent Album) Both include album tracks and not just singles.

What are the chances 21 could go back top 10 next week? Physical supply would be an impediment but she's sitting at #6 on iTunes right now and the singles are certainly getting a sales & streaming boost this week
