Those are massive numbers. I hope they hold off on streaming (even though I'm a Spotify guy) until after Grammy's/Valentine's Day, except for releasing the second single. Like Taylor, ADELE has NOTHING to lose by doing that. One wonders what numbers Biebs would be doing if he employed, say, one-month hold, except for the two 'official' singles. It will be interesting if more artists experiment with one-week or longer holds for streaming. With rare exception, I don't think they can go more than a month. Bieber has a young audience, I think streaming only benefits him. ITA- that's why I think labels need to experiment a bit to determine which artists, projects and windows create the right balance of maximizing sales v. streaming equivalents. For example, someone like AG probably needs to go to streaming simultaneously since she has never been a huge album seller, but Biebs has shown he can sell albums. I wonder if The Weeknd would've benefited from holding back the full album from streaming considering the massive hits there. I considered purchasing it, but when it's available on streaming and I can download to listen without a connection, the decision was easy.

That doesn't even take Cyber Monday into account yet. While I don't think it's on sale online for the "holiday," I'm sure it helped that it was plastered all over websites and the internet left and right while people shopped online. Lol, she just might hit 1 million again.

Have mercy! Since when does The Hollywood Reporter give out mid-week album sales updates? Guess it gets them more hits than breaking down Oscar races!

Billboard is reporting it sold at least 650k the last three days. The total should almost certainly be higher than 850-875k.

I'll wait until it actually happens to crow about it, but just the fact that even for the second-week prediction she keeps trending upward is mind-boggling! Also I never would have realized until the previous page what a wonderful reaction meme the internets has just gained (you know you can never have too many reaction memes)...even in gif form Adele is leaving no wig unsnatched

What was the release date/weekly sales for the Beatles 1 album? I think the 1m+ was xmas right? Trying to gauge how it trended over time.
Adele will hit 1m this week. I bet if you look back at every album to scan just over a million, HITS predicted well under that early in the week. It's like weather forecasters overestimating the chance of rain on purpose -- makes the good news feel even better when expectations are outperformed.

The madness continues. RIAA will literally be able to certify it Diamond by the New Years, since they tend to around 8m sold anyways.

I knew she would not be able to hit a million in another week. As I said all along, the sales were inflated upfront. The Black Friday/Cyber Monday is not going to draw in much more. Of course, now I will get attacked (again) for saying this. Lol The numbers are INCREDIBLE. They are mind blowing, truly amazing and legendary. I'm strictly talking about the people who told me she would do a million in the next week due to the inflation of Black Friday and shopping. I am in no way saying these numbers are poor, they are truly incredible and it is exciting she is having another week near a million!! I am really enjoying the album more and more each day :) I also am really hoping that they will trend up! Too soon?

Nah, if the goal of major labels and streaming services is to make people subscribe to those services, they can't start windowing releases left and right. What's the point of streaming services if they don't have the new releases immediately. The paradigm is simply changing - from buying and owning music to renting it.

I still maintain that streaming doesnt actually cannibalize sales all that much. The demographic of people who stream were unlikely to be buying albums in large numbers anyway. We're talking about young people who have never lived in a world where going out to buy a CD was something you did to get new music. They're grown up illegally downloading, buying from iTunes, or streaming on YouTube. They have no desire to buy a physical copy of a CD and would likely only be buying the singles that they like anyway. Streaming is a way to continuously monetize the people who were unlikely to actually buy anything.

HITS:
Early forecasts suggest first-week sales for Parlophone's Coldplay (whose A Head Full of Dreams comes out Friday) somewhere in the 150-200k range. Of course, any ticket bundles and/or direct-to-consumer sales, if offered, could raise the tally. Dreams currently sits at #8 in preorder on the iTunes Top 10. The band's 2014 set, Ghost Stories, debuted with 383k.
The juggernaut that is Adele's 25 just gets bigger, with estimates for her second-week sales in the neighborhood of 850-900k. Having already zoomed past the 4 million mark, the XL/Columbia set is now looking like it could amass a ridiculous 6 million units by the time 2015 ends. How much will the NBC broadcast of her 12/14 Radio City concert and the Christmas rush, among other factors, affect her tally? Stay tuned.

ADELE NOW LOOKING AT 6 MILLION BY YEAR'S END The juggernaut that is Adele's 25 just gets bigger, with estimates for her second-week sales in excess of 950k. Could she hit a million in her second at-bat? Having already zoomed past the 4 million mark, the XL/Columbia set is now looking like it could amass a ridiculous 6 million units by the time 2015 ends. In what was expected to have been a hard fall-off yesterday after the Black Friday weekend, sales were down as little as 1% vs. Sunday at one major retailer, with others averaging around 10% down. If sales hold up, this could put 25 within striking distance of another record, as it would become the first-ever album to sell more than 1m in each of its first two weeks. How much will the NBC broadcast of her 12/14 Radio City concert and the Christmas rush, among other factors, affect her tally? Stay tuned. hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=298737

Coldplay's estimate is not good. Their worst opening since A Rush Of Blood To The Head.

Well it's not even released yet, too early to tell. It can do 150k or 300k.

Again, I'm talking about huge or special releases - we're talking maybe 10-15 a year max. However, this is the time to experiment - there's little downside because if withholding isn't making any difference, they can release to streaming. Anyway, after buying thousands of CD and then moving to digital, I've fully embraced streaming with rare exceptions. I used to keep the CDs and rip to cloud or computer, but now as I'm finishing ripping, with rare exception - OOP or special editions, I'm donating the CDs in batches to charity since they are worthless on secondary market.

Not great for Coldplay.
These Adele numbers continue to amaze. We obviously have our Billboard 2016 Artist of the Year right here. Bieber may be #2 although it stinks that his first week sales go to 2015.

Wow, what the hell are those numbers for Coldplay? Looks like the finally are going the Nickelback route in terms of CD Sales.
Looks like I was wrong about Adele. And I'm VERY happy about being wrong
