Answering the original question? Yes, her success is comparable to music legends. She's sold over 7 million albums in a matter of five weeks, and of the three albums she's put out, one is diamond, another is almost diamond, and the third, her almost-8 year-old debut, is now continuing to spend more weeks in the Top 20/30/40 (IDK, but I know it's somewhere in those regions) of the Billboard 200 solely from being buoyed by her recent album release. Hell, even her tour DVD was certified diamond. She's got 9 Grammys, an Oscar, and sold out an entire North American arena tour in minutes, with an estimated 10 million people trying to buy tickets all at once. Her European arena tour sold out just as fast. All of this within eight years, and during the digital age, where streaming and illegally downloading music is quickly overtaking pure music sales. That's unabashedly, inarguably comparable to legends, as the original question asked.
Is she a music legend? Not quite. Eight years isn't enough time to say that. Even though everything she's done is comparable to what established legends have done, that doesn't automatically make her one. If she suddenly went dark on us tomorrow and everything stopped for the rest of her life, she'd be looked back on in an incredible light, but not on the same level as someone like Mariah Carey or Madonna.
I have no issue putting her in the same category as Beyonce right now. Different forms of success, but both have consistently dominated the music industry as of late, and with Adele's successes both in the music industry (sales, awards, statistics, etc.) and out ("Skyfall", becoming an MBE, her humanity work with representing a population commonly slandered and looked past for more picture-perfect women/people, etc.), I think she matches Beyonce.
