The keynote address is at 1pm ET so we'll know around 1:30 what it looks like.

Rumor confirmed: it's gone. New EarPods connect via the Lightning port, and they're talking about their new wireless AirPods now.

With the rumors it seems that they are eliminating the headphone jack but will have a lightning to audio accessory. Apple wants to push Beats wireless headphones and new "AirPod" ear phones that will use technology that will be specific for just Apple products 100% true. Edit: 5 hours of battery life before you have to use the charging case for the AirPods I'll stick to what I already use.

You have to have at least 5 hours of battery life to use the Airpods? After that, they do not work?

You have to have at least 5 hours of battery life to use the Airpods? After that, they do not work? The wireless Airpods only have 5 hours of battery life before they die and you have to use the included charging case which is only good for 24 hours before it has to be charged as well.

Edit: 5 hours of battery life before you have to use the charging case for the AirPods I'll stick to what I already use. It's a clusterfuck of a design. Really only 5 hours? Bluetooth may have poor range but at least I get days of battery life without having to worry about charging. Then they're small as hell and easy to lose so imagine how many times people will need to replace them. They haven't announced pricing but I can bet $69 for a pair. Apple forgets that people just need devices to simply work not worry about how long it's going to last. There was no need for this device. Regarding the headphone jack (or lack thereof) at least they include the adapter but again the iPhone didn't get any thinner so I again don't see a point for this re-design. They keep trying to reinvent the wheel yet it does more harm than good.

They dropped the 64 gig which was the most popular size. $629 7 and $729 7S with 32/128/256 gigs.

You are getting double of what they previously were for the same new price which is a good thing.

Yeah true but with live photos, dual lens camera, and music that eats up 32 gigs fast. Nevertheless the 16g which honestly should've died 5 years ago is gone.

If you're in a big city and there's a lot of people getting on the bus or subway, one shove and they could be accidentally stepped on. I'll give them credit for apparently packaging the lighting-to-3.5 mm adapter with the phone, but I listen to music when I have to charge my phone all the time, especially if I have to pop in somewhere to do it. I hope there's going to be/is some sort of cheaper splitter that lets you do both.

The price point of wireless headphones have always been a barrier to me given how often I tend to lose or damage my listening devices and especially given the quality of sound. I can't imagine spending that much on what appears to be easily "lose'ble" pods.
Give me a good price worth ditching my massive but brilliant wired headphones or I'mma gonna stick with my Samsung 6 Edge Plus until the 8 debuts next April.

So are the AirPods coming with the phone? The AirPods aren't available until late October, but idk if that means it won't package with it until late October or it won't be available for individual purchase until then.
ETA: It comes with wired EarPods that have a lightning adapter.

This is kind of silly. Before the update all you had to carry was the iPhone, a charging cord, and earphones.
Now you will have to carry: 1) The iPhone 2) Two wireless apple earbuds the size of M&Ms that can fall out of your pocket at any time 3) A charging case for your wireless earbuds 4) A pair of cord headphones, for when your wireless EarPods run out of battery 6) An adaptor to connect your wired earbuds to the lightning port 7) A charger to charge your phone and your earbuds.
I thought design refinements are supposed to improve functionality?

Even more hurtful than the Air Pods is how apple says we must have the 'courage' to move on and better ourselves, lol - pretentious much?

Yeah, I get that they're trying to nudge us toward better technology, and I do think it could be better in the long run (re: inevitable), the whole thing feels sour to me. Why not leave the headphone jack but encourage wireless headphones without forcing users to use them. I see they are including an adapter to plug into the power port (or whatever it's called) but you can't listen to music and charge your phone at the same time. Not a big deal but I can't help but wonder: what's the benefit of removing the headphone jack? Did it give extra space for other improvements? Otherwise it's nothing other than limiting options as a user and forcing them to buy wireless headphones. Which, as I said above, is inevitable and probably better in the long run, but it feels cheap.

It made the phone so much thinner and opened up the opportunity for more amazing innovations; it removed 1 mm lmao.

Their new headphones they released that "fit in everyone's ear" fall out of my ears the instant I go from a walk to a jog. These new wireless headphones look horrible. They wouldn't fit.
On top of that, I teach group fitness and personal train, and our stereos are only AUX enabled, not bluetooth. So I either need an adapter or to go with an older model.
Usually apples changes have been minimally annoying for me, if at all. The aux cord removal is a deal breaker.

...what's the benefit of removing the headphone jack?... Exactly. They can dress it up as being a technological advance, but really that's what it all comes down to. At $9 a pop for every time you lose that little adapter plus $160 every time you lose the airpods, it's a cash cow for them. The only tech benefit they got from removing the jack is the water resistant rating (and it's only water resistant, not water proof).

I hope consumers speak out though I used my previous iPhone for almost 4 years. In January I bought the iPhone 6, as I don't want a big device in my pocket. I'll definitely skip the 7... But if this is the future of iPhones I may just switch to Samsung -I was already thinking about it last year but opted to stay with Apple. I really think this is a stupid annoying move. The change of jacks was already somewhat annoying but this is worse

I feel like the only one who doesn't hate the idea.
For one, the phone comes with the adaptor and (I believe) a pair of standard headphones, not that anyone used the old apple ones beyond their year-or-so lifespan anyway. Also don't see a situation that would require you to use headphones for more than five hours a day without having access to the charging case. Biggest bonus for me is I'll never have to deal with the mess of tangled chords that cause the headphones to deteriorate over time anyway, and I imagine if the current earbuds can stay in your ear just fine then these will do the same. If you can keep track of your headphones, these won't be much more difficult.
...if I lose the pair that comes with the phone though, they're gone for good lol. I am not dropping $160 for another pair. s**t, I won't even drop $30 for a pair with the chord.

If you don't like it, the best thing to do is not buy it, I certainly will not. Why pay more for literally less? Apple has created this very successful idea that you NEED the newest iPhone when in reality, no one needs this phone unless yours is broken.
Just like the apple watch, this version of the iPhone is a joke!

It probably won't match the explosiveness of the Note 7.
