They are probably 2000s kids and think Sia has been around only since Guetta "discovered" her, and she was inspired by Rihanna and her "island accent". Even though that's always been the way she sings. Pitiful.

I feel really old sometimes when I hear young people talking about music. Like, some of my students thought Usher and Ludacris were "new" artists and I realized that people who are like, 18 were either not alive or children when Usher/Luda were breaking through. I get that Sia wasn't terribly popular back in the late 90s early 00s but still.
This grew on me a lot. There is something so effortless about it that I don't even think she achieves in other songs sometimes. Hope it does well, but looks like radio is slow on it anyway.

I've been aware of Sia ever since seeing the finale of Six Feet Under and am aware of her inflections and progression from the Zero 7 period. I'm also aware of how she's changed since she's started to really pivot in a more pop direction since We Are Born (which was pre-anything she did with Guetta) at the turn of the decade, or if you wanna go back a bit further then the Some People... album from the late 00s. And still none of that is remotely relevant to my point. This particular song and the verses in Chandelier contain very clear similarities to Rihanna that she kept from their original intention, whether you want to hear them or not.

Did they completely skip 2001-2005??? That reminds me of my freshman year in TV Prod that only me& a senior knew what a VHS system was.. Btw that sort of hurt to read

I must admit, when I first heard Wild Ones in summer 2012, I thought Rihanna sang it

Lol as a 19 year old myself I can testify that Ludacris and Usher have always been well known artists to us and "Yeah" and "Move Bitch" (lol) continue to be really popular among people our age. Those students must have been living under a rock or something, because those artists were household names back when we were 6-10 years old, probably some of the first I've ever known the names of.

Hmmm... i never thought Sia sounded anything like Rihanna. I never would have made that connection. At all. Still don't. If anything, I feel like Rihanna took on a bit of Sia's vocal flourishes when recording Diamonds.
But I digress. It's not that serious. I think they both shine bright. Tonight.

Yeah I'm 20 and agree. YEAH was like the roller skating anthem at all the birthday parties growing up. I could see ludacris not being known by the majority of people my age .... But usher. ? Not only did he have the massive confessions era . He had a number one on his next album followed by OMG , dj got us Fallin in love , and more hits . Usher never really went fully away (until very recently after I don't mind). I think it would be decently struggle to poll friends from my high school and have someone think usher is a newer artist

I also knew Ludacris and was surprised when I started following the charts that he was successful there.

I see no similarities between Chandelier and Cheap Thrills, let alone their connection to Rihanna. And apparently I ain't the only one. Maybe you're the one who's reaching. Sia's accent has always been the same. I guess she was inspired by Rihanna here too, back in 2000...

"Not when Sia's trying to rock some fake island/rasta accent on Chandelier and this"
That was your point. Considering she's been doing the same shit for years, I fail to see the fake island/rasta accent.

I mean, there is a difference between Taken For Granted and what I was talking about, as well as the intentions, but it's not worth it to try to explain to you. We won't agree so whatever.
NTWays, swerving this thread back to relevance and the topic, is there going to be another video for this? I know they did a "performance" one along with the lyric video, but is there going to be a more "official" one commissioned? At the very least, it would be a gateway for more streaming points, since she's performed strongly there with her past videos (aside from Alive, which wasn't well done).

This is actually really cool. Sia has being recorded some new vocals for the verse intros of Cheap Thrills to fit the names of some radio stations. So far I discovered she has done this for the UK's Capital FM & Radio 1 and Los40 radio. Before the main station in my area began to use lyrics from songs (for example, they have One Republic singing "We'll be counting...down" or Kesha singing "It's going down" for their 10 @ 10 bit) they had artists (like Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, etc) say "Hey I'm __ and you're listening to 96FM". Really hope Sia does one for them with this!

Here is her discussing them on the Radio 1

I wonder if, at this rate, this will take all year to climb and end up peaking just outside the top 10 just like her other singles.

I still think this will blow up over the summer but pop radio's early dismissal of this great record is so annoying.

"Early dismissal"...? I know it's not exactly screaming up the airplay chart but uhh... with today's update its bullet just hit a new high.

Thank god this is getting some good updates finally.
It's still early, but the way this has been simmering means it could blow up and have the longevity to make it huge through Summer. It's definitely rising, and looks like an outside contender for the time being.
