Rihanna could "Work" her way to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 by Monday (which would make for a nice present, just after her birthday Saturday).
Justin Bieber's "Love Yourself" has led the list for two nonconsecutive weeks, interrupted a week ago by Zayn's No. 1-debuting "Pillowtalk," while Rihanna's "Work," featuring Drake, rises 7-4 this week (on the chart dated Feb. 27).
However, based on projected sales, according to sources, and streaming and airplay data, collected by Nielsen Music so far in the tracking period, for next week's Hot 100 (dated March 5), "Work" and "Love Yourself" are essentially tied in projected downloads sold, with approximately 100,000 each, according to sources' forecasts, with "Work" looking slightly ahead of "Love Yourself." "Work" is noticeably ahead in streams, but "Love Yourself" is leading significantly in radio airplay. The preliminary figures suggest a tight race for the Hot 100's summit (with the chart encompassing those three data metrics).
(Notably, the official video for "Work" is expected Monday, which is after the tracking week for the March 5 charts has ended; thus, any gains caused by the clip's arrival would be reflected on the following week's tallies, dated March 12.)www.billboard.com/biz/articles/6882803/will-rihanna-dethrone-justin-bieber-atop-the-hot-100?utm_source=twitter

With 14 #1s she's breaks the tie with Madonna and MJ correct? And only behind to Mariah, Elvis, and The Beatles?

With 14 #1s she's breaks the tie with Madonna and MJ correct? And only behind to Mariah, Elvis, and The Beatles? She already has more #1s than Madonna. Madonna has 12. However, she is tied with MJ and will break that tie if Work goes #1; she'll only be behind Mariah, Elvis, The Beatles!

Video preview looks great. Perfect visuals for this song.
This is still increasing its lead on iTunes too. Even if it isn't #1 on Monday, the week after should be in the bag with the video.

This is #17 on Building. Would go Top 15 on the official chart if "Here," from fellow Def Jam artist Alessia Cara, slips to #11 and thus goes recurrent (Selena's Same Old Love is 100% going recurrent).

So...I like this now. Listened to it loud with my headphones and it bangs. Still not totally on board with the vocal but it's not as bad as I initially thought.

Thankfully this isn't getting screwed over by Tidal. Btw, I only just got the warning for the stupid stuff I said on this thread like a month ago. I would have expected it alot earlier XD

Song is still not fully on board due to Riri's vocals at times, but its hook gives it a small boost.

People saying this is heading to #1 because of Drake are simply delusional. Drake's only #1 on the Hot 100 was on a Rihanna single he was featured on and it looks like his 2nd #1 will be the same case again. On the other hand, Rihanna has literally a dozen of #1, non-Drake assisted singles.
The album is doing ok and looks to be stabilizing instead of immediately falling out of the top 10 like many thought. The only concern for this era is if the tour will actually happen or not. That's still up in the air given her recent cancellations.
Oh and the video looks great! Exactly the kind of visual I imagined for this and what it needs to secure that #1 spot.

IT IS NOT A TIDAL EXCLUSIVE PRAISE DA LORDDDDD :'( This video will be everything! Fuck she made her entire album a TIDAL exclusive which kinda fucked everything. Hopefully she's paid her "dues" and doesn't have to make anything else a TIDAL exclusive this era, or ever again.

Yeah, I saw that in the RI thread that Drake is the reason why she can reach #1. Mannn, obviously you haven't been following her chart success.

IT IS NOT A TIDAL EXCLUSIVE PRAISE DA LORDDDDD :'( This video will be everything! f**k she made her entire album a TIDAL exclusive which kinda f**ked everything. Hopefully she's paid her "dues" and doesn't have to make anything else a TIDAL exclusive this era, or ever again. She's a co-owner on Tidal so I guess we should expect more exclusives there soon to some capacity. As long as it's not American Oxygen-type of exclusives.
On another note, the teaser has 6.1 million views on VEVO! :O

Yes Rihanna is super popular, don't get me wrong, but without him on this particular song, it MIGHT not be a #1 hit. It is very polarizing (I personally love it) but many people love drakes part on it. A guest vocalist can save a songs charts run.

It is very polarizing (I personally love it) but many people love drakes part on it. A guest vocalist can save a songs charts run. In terms of singles she is way more powerful than him (albums is a very different story). Yes the song is polarizing, and that's not going to change, and no matter how successful it ends this is not going to be Umbrella or We found love. Even more, i don't think this will end in nobody's Rihanna's top 10 in five years, but it's her new single in a good while (and even more for her standards of being constantly on the radio), and it's catchy enough to do well. Drake is always a good adition but if this is doing so well it's because it's a new Rihanna song. If it has any positive effect on the following singles or if it's going to make the albums sales go up (the sales of Anti are not that promising after all) it's to be seen, but it's going to become a hit on its own, with or without Drake

Singles don't always make a better artist. Drake doesn't always cater to pop the way Rihanna does. If you look at Rhytmic and Urban formats, you will see a different story. Drake is by far the biggest Urban artist on radio right now. I personally believe that if Rihanna did this song solo, it would not hit #1 and it would probably start fizzling now. The hype started from a new Rihanna song, and I think the Drake feature helped keep it on the charts and keep it fresh in people's minds.

I would say the appeal in Drake being a feature on this is more about them as a duo than himself exclusively. That's the selling point as far as the branding of the song goes. People and the media like seeing them together with their history.

I think this is probably the best song Rihanna has ever done (well, in my opinion). So I'm glad that it's probably going to #1. It would definitely be going #1 tomorrow if it used the old formula!

The best part of the song is Drake, tbh, but to say that Rihanna needs anyone to get a #1 is crazy. Her album had a pretty messy release and still went #1.

Sold ~118k copies in the past week in the US. This brings the song's cumulative digital sales over the 500k threshold (~513k in a little over 3 weeks).
