I remember reading an interview in which Dierks said that if "Riser" crashed be would "immediately get to work on 'Drunk on A Boat.'" At the time I thought he was joking, but as it turns out I guess he was understating things. That was from Country Aircheck I believe. I retweeted the post that someone had posted with that comment. I'll edit in into this post later. Unfortunately, the more I hear this the more I don't like it. It's probably be my least favorite Dierks single since "I Wanna Make You Close Your Eyes."

Bleh this is not good at all. I'm really underwhelmed by this, especially after warming up quite a bit to Dierks Bentley during the Riser era (enough to make it my first CD purchase from his catalog). This is just not appealing though at all, with pretty low-hanging lyrical fruit in the chorus and a largely uninteresting melody and production-treatment, too. Definitely missing all the magic that made "Drunk on a Plane" a song that I loved. I'm sure that his album will have far better material on it though and I like Dierks more than many of his male counterparts, so I do want to see this do well for him (and it already looks likely to do just that if the early sales are any indication). Already looking forward to whatever is next though.

Like many of you, I wasn't too fond of the song on first listen. I added it onto my Spotify, though, and after a couple listens I'm into it now. It's grown on me a bit.

I've never been a die hard Dierks fan. He's had a lot of good songs along the way and I like them, but I never got into his music that much. For me he was just kinda there. This song had me worried from the beginning, based on the title. I know, I know don't judge a book and all that, but I just do. Anyway, I was right. I don't like this. I saw him perform on Ellen and he didn't sound good and the song was terribly written in my opinion. Just a really big letdown from a usually strong artist. Can't wait for single #2.

My Lord this is awful. "Drunk On A Plane" was at least clever, witty, and thick on the Deirks charm. This drivel has none of those things. Which means it'll probably smash and become his biggest hit. Your right about one thing it will smash and be a hit because it should be. It's cleverly written I'm sorry if others can't see that but it is. Too many people on here are getting hung up on the body/ naughty line. That is put in there to establish how munch better he is doing. I keep going back to "how am I doin" and feel like everyone on here shouldn't be so surprised. I mean this is basically a lot like that the girl misses him he says he's doing better. And yes he does establish the girl as being wrong because if she hadn't then when he says bet you wishing I would come back hell naw why use that kind of language unless she did something? Also the melody sounds great it's actually my favorite from him since " free and easy".

And thanks for clearing up the body/naughty line because I had thought it was just about women looking hot on the beach; I had no idea that it actually established how "munch better" he was doing. Like man, he's really doing good for himself if this girl can be described as 'naughty' and having a hot body. Mind blown. Also, comparing this to "How Am I Doin'" only weakens the appeal of this song since that was one was miles better from literally every aspect. So, that doesn't really help.

I was simply explaining my reasoning for liking the song I was in no way trying to put your opinion to shame there's no need to be deffensive you don't have to like the same things I do and you don't so good. But honestly the only one being a troll by your latest comment is you. I stayed on topic and was posting about the single. you attempted to derail the board by making a personal attack please refrain from that and discuss "somewhere on a beach" thanks.

I was simply explaining my reasoning for liking the song I was in no way trying to put your opinion to shame there's no need to be deffensive you don't have to like the same things I do and you don't so good. People are getting worked up with your posts because you've been very contradictory. Above you said that "you don't have to like the same things I do", but that's clearly back-tracking on a previous post: It's cleverly written I'm sorry if others can't see that but it is. Here you are essentially presenting your opinion as a fact and telling others that they are wrong. Everybody is allowed to have their own opinions, but discussion doesn't "work" when Poster A criticizes Poster B's opinion and tries to sway them to Poster A's view. Now, to everyone: please cut it out with the unnecessary back-and-forth jabs, otherwise warnings may be issued and/or the thread may be temporarily locked. I'll say again what I've said before: if you see a post that you feel might be in violation of board rules, please do NOT reply to it. Simply report the post. It's the staff's job to moderate, not anyone else's. Thanks.

I've finally given this a proper listen and I have to say it's pretty bad. He sounds good, the production on the verses is decent, but even if I forgave the weak lyrics there's no part of the melody that catches my ear, and the chorus production is really bad and distracts from the song. If I were to compare the lyrics to his contemporaries I'd say they're about average, but when put against his catalouge it's honestly tragic.
He's been one of my favorite artists since his debut and I've always felt he was able to do fun stuff and serious stuff really greatly so this stooping down is unnecessary imo.
@ Matt, I like your comparisons of this song to Loss Leaders I'm hoping it's an accurate discription of this song and it's not a sellout moment, cause you're right there's no evidence of a sellout yet.

Basically, agree with Kanenrá:ke post above. Have given this track repeat listens and it doesn't grab me at all. The song is oddly constructed and doesn't have a crescendo; I guess the tiny bridge is OK and the intro is promising but fails to develop into something more substantial; the melody/hook is really uninspired; it just flows along leaving me pretty empty handed. I'll doubt this will grow on me. Let's wait and see how this tests with the surveys.

How unfortunate. I don't like this at all, and I was just starting to like Dierks (Riser was the first studio album of his I bought, after getting his greatest hits album a few years earlier). Kind of sad when the current Florida Georgia Line single is much better lyrically than the current Dierks Bentley single.

I love Dierks as a person. He seems so sweet and kind. However, his music to me has always been a hit or miss. This song is just not good enough for Dierks. I've never thought of him as a great vocalist, but sometimes if you have a good song, vocals don't seem to always matter, but SOAB seems like a dud. IMO.

So I'm right now listening to CCUSA and Dierks just said what some of the song titles of his upcoming album. "Black" is apparently one there's a song titled "What The Hell" I kid you not and he said his upcoming concert is going to be apparently more rockieh type.

(That is a sarcastic reaction, of course. My real reaction is ) Edit: I actually do enjoy the Avril song. I just can't picture Dierks singing it!

Do you remember the last time Dierks got over 80 adds on impact day, if ever (I think that's a high for him)? I'll look it up if you don't know off-hand.

It's so great seeing this happening to Dierks. I just wish it was a better song like any other song that Dierks has.

I feel like his biggest adds week was around 66 or something. I'm still wrinkling my nose that it's this song. Hmph.

Felt like sticking this here. Dierks in the NHL All-Star Skills competition with Nashville Predators forward, James Neal.

At this point I want this song to have a quick chart run and I just want the album out so I see what musical direction Dierks is taking with his music.
