Really, I get the notion of releasing a commercial sing-a-long in order to get your album out, but does Dierks Bentley really need to do that? As long as he isn't releasing a "Bourbon in Kentucky" or "Riser" and hoping it gets an album out, should he really have an issue with a lead single? What about songs like "Lot of Leavin'" or "Sideways"? Those are miles better than this and surely they would have gotten the album out.

First of all, Sideways is awful, and if that had been the lead single for Feel That Fire I would have been just as disappointed as I am with this. As it is, FTF is my least favorite album, and the only time I acknowledge Sideways' existence is in concert. Blech.
And you would think that Dierks Bentley shouldn't have a problem releasing just about anything as a lead, but after major delays in his last two albums I can see how they would be gun shy. That said, there are probably going to be at least 3 songs on the album they could have released instead of this which will greatly annoy me, but they have a ton of marketing around SOAB with the tour being named after it and lots of tie-ins that way. So like, I get it. I still don't like it, but I get it. And I'm glad that he is at least smart enough to know that this is just a throwaway single being used as a commercial vehicle...and it's doing what they wanted it to do.

This one is growing on me a little but I still hold out hope that Dierks will give us much better stuff on the album itself (and please Dierks something with a damn fiddle in it).
Another question: I was looking at Dierks concert tix and I noticed every ticket purchase gets a free download of his album when it comes out. ZBB did something similar. Do these count as album sales?

Not loving this but I'm not hating it either. I think this was better first time around as How Am I Doin'.
That said, I'm sure Dierks is gonna crush this in concert - same as he does with Am I The Only One (another less than high energy song on record that plays better in concert)

Video debut tomorrow, per DB social media. YOU get to post it. I wonder if it will be as funny as Drunk On A Plane.

The lead actor in the video, Josh, was also in the "Drunk On A Plane" video. Josh was sitting across the aisle from the lead actor in the DOAP video.

The music video did nothing to change my opinion on the song but I will admit it was decently funny. The sooner this song is done though the better as I really just want that album (If only Riser was still charting or became the #1 it so rightfully deserved).

I really liked the video, more than I expected to. I appreciate that they went the more comedic route rather than the revengey, bitter route; but I am also glad it wasn't directly a DOAP sequel, too, even if it did somewhat continue the DOAP video's story. I also love how he always utilizes his band in his videos, and Tim's maracas made me giggle.
Also the look on Dierks' face the first time "she's naughty" comes up was hilarious and seemed to convey, to me at least, that he's pretty aware that the lyrics basically suck...and I appreciate that.

Not as funny as the Drunk On A Plane video. That guy should not be mixing pills and alcohol. Loved the Baywatch reference around the two minute mark of the video. I see Somewhere On A Beach hitting the top for Dierks Bentley.

..... Yeah, this grew on me, big time. I still don't really think it's a good song or anything but it's definitely a guilty pleasure for me now and one I jam to whenever it comes on. Still hoping Dierks has better songs coming up after this, though.

Still not much of a fan of this song, but that video was hilarious. It helps that Dierks just has that likeable factor you can't ignore...and let's face it he's just so dang cute in it. Dierks gets a pass on this song and I can't wait to see what he has in store for us with Black (which just happens to be my favorite color as well).

Article about "Somewhere On A Beach" and how it found Dierks Bentley in Billboard this evening:

Somewhat of a poor man's "Drunk on a Plane", but still not without its merits. I like the contrast of the slower tempo and the upbeat lyrics.

This ACM "prep" video is hilarious. Oh, my-that is really funny! He definitely has screen appeal, good comedic timing - I see some future movie role just like Tim McGraw for him!

That video is gold! Can't wait to see this top the charts so that we can get new songs.

Alright I love this one now, go ahead and sue me. I can't get the riff out of my head, it just plays over and over on repeat after listening to this song. The video is solid as well with a great taste of humor. Nice to see this is going to be another huge hit for Dierks. I still prefer "Drunk On A Plane", but this more than gets the job done in my book. And for all the fuss about the lyrics, I can't really find that many bad lines in this. The "naughty"-"body" line could be better but it does get the point across. I think the main character in this song is supposed to be acting slightly douche-y on purpose.

dm2081 don't worry, I've come around on it too. I suppose it may have been expected given my Dierks stan status, but like you said, it just gets stuck in my head and I find myself singing it at random intervals. I really have come to like the juxtaposition of the somewhat upbeat lyrics and the moody production, music, and his kind of growly vocals. Naturally I'm excited it's shaping up to be a big song for him, and I hope this era is great for him as a whole.

Okay, I will confess that this song is the total atrocity I originally stated in January. The chorus lyrics are still all kinds of poor but the song's laid-back vibe with the catchy melody is really growing on me. The video's great, so perhaps that's a factor. I can honestly say I don't hate this now, lol.

This song has strangely grown on me. Some of the lyrics are still rather bad. But Dierks seems to have like a little self awareness like he knows this song isn't good. So this will probably go down as my biggest guilty pleasure song of the year,

No worries, I still dislike this enough for everyone here combined! The video didn't make "Somewhere on a Beach" grow on me one bit, either. And frankly, I've been rolling my eyes a little at Dierks' sheepish buck-passing on the single selection, even if I can understand the rational reason for choosing "Drunk on a Plane II, This Time Without the Wit & Funny Details" to ensure that the album got out as scheduled. Fortunately, I like "Freedom" ( which Dierks performed live recently) much better from both a melodic and lyrical point of view and I continue to look forward to hearing Black.

New song up on iTunes. Featuring Maren Morris. Sounds really good. Like "Settle for a Slowdown" Dierks.

That's good stuff. Edit: actually the song is the first in a four part video series that RS Country will be premeiring leading up to the release of Black.
