I really hate how Future low key was behind Ciara blowing up. sucks she didn’t record that album with him and mike will like they had originally planned. Instead, ciara went off to record with dr.luke.... and we got Jackie. Future basically admitted that her goal is to get pop hits. She’s not with releasing urban records. Sigh. Well that's long gone. Urban is her lane.

Conflicted. The urban audience has not been very loyal to her since Promise - they give her one radio hit per album, then dump her and shade the f**k out of her for it - so I can't blame her for not really wanting to cater to them at this point. Thing is, her old label(s) also did her dirty by letting her spend her coins on pop producers and then never promoting her stuff to pop. Much of her career inconsistency stems from being chained to a label that didn't see it for her in a pop lane, but also did not care enough to try to steer her in what they thought was the right direction.
With that said, while there is nothing wrong with shooting for mainstream, she needs to be consistent about it and the list of known collaborators so far doesn't feel consistent. I also think it's a mistake for her to go fully pop, especially now that urban is coming back in style. She should be working with people who can build a strong urban-crossover sound for her instead of running away from urban completely. If Warner is going to make a good faith effort to push her to CHR then maybe this will work out in spite of itself, but if they see her as an 'urban' star first and foremost we're back to where we started with Ciara not being on the same page with her label.
If she is going to chase pop she could at least chase behind some people who are, IDK, a bit more du jour? Call Tranter and Michaels, not Skylar Grey and JR Rotem! Or get on a DJ's track to ease her way back onto the pop audience's radar before dropping something of her own. Right now her collabs scream small budget. I'll let her have Tricky though if he can deliver another Ride.
Ciara's so talented but she has always seemed to have a dead ear when it came to branding and marketing herself or surrounding herself with the right team of people who can and will nail it for her.

Nope. I'm talking about actual, stone-cold hits.

Unless and until she starts dropping hints about an actual collab I refuse to get my hopes up about this pic. But they are on sister labels now, so it would make sense.

I hate that Future was the man behind her best album. He isn't shit but was totally right about the Jackie album and the type of music she should be doing.

I have faith she can top it, if I was her and the fact that Future told her he hopes she fails at everything she does, I would use that and then some to as a driving motivation to get back on top, actually better than before. She doesn't need him to make a great album, I hope she realizes that.

No, of course she doesn’t need Future to make a great album but she DOES need to play to her strengths and ride in that Urban lane as hard and on trend as she can.

As you can tell by the nostalgia threads, I've been listening to nothing but Ciara all week, haha. She is so underappreciated. She has served nothing but bop after bop, solid album after solid album since the beginning. Sure, some are clearly better than others, but she's yet to have a total stinker.
I'm so amped for new music.
*edit* LMAO. I just looked back on my initial review of Jackie. I tore it to SHREDDDSSSS. I like it so much more now.

It's not the greatest but I wouldn't say it's that terrible either. I think we're extra hard on it because it came right after her masterpiece "Ciara". She was filming something the other day http://instagram.com/p/BgAudvynYeB

I think if you set standards extremely low, "Jackie" can seem like an okay album.

Jackie was pop af at its finest, but it wasn't a direction that fully worked for Ci sans a few songs.

I think awful is a strong word for Jackie. If you said "average," I could agree. There are some big highlights on that album and the weakest tracks at worst are pleasant filler. I'd definitely put it above The Evolution now. I think at the time it just wasn't what I wanted from her, so I was super harsh. Also, easily her best album vocally.
"Lullaby," "DLWML," "Stuck On You," "I Bet," "Kiss & Tell," "All Good" are my favs. Cute cute cute.

“Jackie” is boring and very amateur. Not bad but it’s basic and isn’t the type of music that will do anything for her career.

Not bad but it’s basic and isn’t the type of music that will do anything for her career. right and what puzzles me is that ciara cites it as one of her most personal albums, and I don’t hear that at all. The music is all very generic. I hate that she’s being so secretive with this upcoming project though. I feel like she needs to be building some interest. Not like she’s the type of artist who can just drop music out of no where and have the world stop. Im Very interested see what the roll out will be like.
