Artist: Tucker Beathard Single: "Rock On" Writers: Tucker Beathard, Casey Beathard, Marla Cannon-Goodman Label: Dot Records/BMLG Add Date: March 7th, 2016
"Rock On" will be Tucker Beathard's debut single. The singer-songwriter was signed to Big Machine Label Group and assigned to Dot Records. He released an EP titled The Demos: Vol 1 last year. The single version of "Rock On" is different from the EP version (which is really just a raw demo). The song has begun getting spins on KEEY in Minneapolis.
Tucker's dad is prolific songwriter, Casey Beathard ("Don't Blink", "Yee Haw", "Just Fishin'", "Homeboy", "Like Jesus Does", "Do You Want Fries With That", "Right Where I Need To Be").
Tucker's brother, C.J. is the starting quarterback for the Iowa Hawkeyes football program.

And it's pronounced "Beth-herd" if you're curious. ;)

Calling it now: this will be the next OTV pick. Bobby Bones named Tucker as one of the breakout artists of 2016 right? I'm pretty sure that's the only way this can be a hit.

Also, there are few things in the world that I hate more than the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Played awful in the Rose Bowl.

Can't say I'm impressed at all. Sounds like he belongs with the Cadillac Three as a backup singer.

Indeed. Color me underwheled. For me, big machine is making some poor choices lately.
It seems like they are just shotgunning singers to see who sticks.

I actually really enjoy this one. Sounds like something Brantley Gilbert would cut. The instrumentation is pretty modern but still country enough sounding. I think this will have a chance to break out, I can't imagine it getting any bad callout scores. Solid debut single IMO.

This is actually still a song via Dot Records. Not Big Machine Records as posted above.
Also Angelo Petraglia is producing the project. He's best known for his work on all of Kings of Leon's records. He also co-wrote Trisha Yearwood's "Believe Me (Baby I Lied)" among other songs.

I was pleasantly surprised by the lyrics to this one. I was expecting some type of bro-country party song lol. This isn't too shabby. The chorus is really good.

It's unnatural, and apparently sickening, for her to root for anything related to Iowa Hawkeyes! They're a very talented family! Casey's dad was a successful GM in the NFL and these kids have been around music and professional sports their entire lives. I see Tucker having similar success as Thomas Rhett. Same kind of pedigree and similar voice to go along with many allies in the industry.

Jamie and I had a whole discussion via PM 10 days ago about her affiliation with the Cyclones. :) I agree about the Hawkeyes football team being vastly overrated last season.

Chase Bryant 2.0 (i.e. predicting low sales/high airplay)
Looks like Bobby Bones already picked his 5 on the verge artists for 2016. I guess Miranda's boyfriend will be "On The Verge" soon.

I can see why but It hasn't grown on me at all. I'm not a fan of the selection myself. I don't see it selling particularly well and who knows about how it will research. Only time will tell I guess.

I'm personally happy about this being the OTV pick. I don't know if this was the best choice, but I think the song is a pretty solid debut offering. Only time will tell how this selection goes. Kane Brown seemed like a safe and logical choice for the OTV committee to ensure it maintains its perception of breaking out big stars.

"Rock On" on got 25 adds this week (fourth most added), so the whole iHeartMedia panel is on board.

Well, on the plus side its better than the Brett Young song that many thought would be OTV. But my problem here is the vocals. He sounds alright on the chorus, but his voice sounds really bad on the verses. I can see this having a pretty high burn rate.

Some of the Cumulus block is already spinning "Sleep Without You" and its already on 21 monitored stations (one week before the impact date), so I wouldn't be counting the chickens before they hatch if you're hoping that one doesn't fare well, lol. It looks like it didnt need the "On The Verge" program. I personally like Brett's song better. This one is just too basic and Tucker's voice is pretty brutal, especially the verses (which you mentioned).

I hear that mi-so-so-mi-so-so pattern that Casey works into nearly EVERY melody he writes, but there are some parts where it's a bit more melodically adventrous than
I like the play on words with "rock on"/"shoulda put a rock on". I can see why people wouldn't like his voice, but it doesn't bother me any. Nothing mind-blowing, but pretty rock solid (see what I did there?).

"Rock On" gained another 143 spins and over 800k in audience today, so this one will be top 40 on Mediabase this upcoming week.

I can see why people don't like his voice but in my opinion, it's all part of his character. On his Facebook page under genres, it says he's "Country / Rock" which makes sense since when he sings, it sounds like he's going for the gritty, rough rock voice. Plus the way he dresses/looks looks more "Rock" than "Country".

I listened to this for the first time and....it's fine. The chorus is pretty strong but his vocals really limit the potential of this song. The chorus is pretty catchy but I don't see this as a smart OTV pick. It has the makings of an underwhelming and poor-selling Top 10 hit.
