The song's okay I guess but his voice is excruciating on this -- the verses especially.
I'm not surprised this is impacting immediately as the song has already done very well on iTunes but Kane has yet to do his radio tour, so I'm sure RCA Nashville will send him on the road ASAP.

He's different. I'm still trying to digest whether I like the song or him for that matter.

I'm also in the minority here. I actually like the song a lot, he's not a great vocalist but I don't mind him on this song at all. The video is a better quality than I was expecting but he's painful to watch. I'll be giving him a chance going forward, I didn't listen to his other material but this one earns him that.

So I was at the local small bar here in north Georgia a few months back and the band was Playing. They invite this guy up to sing and I was like this guy isn't any better then the others. He goes on to say how he is #1 tunes and turns out it's this guy. I was not impressed at all

Wasn't expecting his voice to sound like that after looking at him. I like the vocals, not a big fan of the song. Sounds like a lower voiced Cole Swindell....speaking of which, this song sounds just like something Swindell would record.

The remixed version is less jarring. That helps.

The remixed version is less jarring. That helps. Less jarring how? Does it help the suspect vocals?

This song is such a laughing stock for me. I can't take Kane serious at all. He better record a good album because if he doesn't I'm never going to listen to him again. Basically he's already lost me for now until that album comes out and then I'll be seeing if he's worth the listen.

I'll be surprised if this isn't a hit. Seems to have everything lined up for it already.

I gotta admit.. I really like this song. The first time I listened to it I found his voice to be odd.. but I like it now. I've briefly checked out some of his other material and nothing really jumped out at me though. I think this will be a hit.. but I'm not sure if he'll have many other hits.

I quite like the song, especially the chorus. I came across it on YouTube when I was just clicking on random songs to listen to. His voice is very polarizing at first, especially since you wouldn't expect his vocals to sound like that by looking at him. He's not the strongest singer from a technical standpoint, but I did see a live video once and it wasn't terrible. He can hold his own vocally. I don't really like his tone though- WAY too deep for me. But you do get used to it the more you listen to the song. At least I did.
I'd be surprised if this doesn't do well. Sounds like something radio would overplay lol.

I was expecting not to like this (due to some comments about his voice being jarring and sounding excruciating), but I finally listened to this and...I don't hear anything jarring or bad about his voice, at all? I actually think he's a pretty strong vocalist, and I really like his phrasing of the verses.
I'm not a huge fan of the production on the chorus (I'm guessing those are electronic drums I hear?), but I like how prominent the piano is, especially during the verses.
All in all, my first reaction is that this is a pretty solid song. I'm not saying he has the best voice ever, but I'd say it's a pretty strong baritone. I haven't listened to any of his other music, but I definitely prefer this song to most of Cole Swindell's output (mentioning him because he was mentioned up-thread) and I think it's better than most FGL music or most of the recent stuff from Luke Bryan. I lumped Kane in with those other artists now only because it seems to me that most people were saying his musical style was similar to them...and maybe his other music is similar, but I don't really hear it on "Used To Love You Sober".
I also don't really hear much of a difference between the new radio mix version (which, I'm assuming, is the audio on AllAccess) and the original recording from months-old YouTube videos.
Kane re-uploaded the video to his official VEVO account on February 19, so I'm assuming this is the new mix (below), and yeah, I don't really notice a difference between it and the older versions from 3, 4 months ago.

Most of the feedback seems to be in favor of this song and his voice but I just can't with his vocals, especially in those verses. I don't like Kane Brown singing in such a low register and it sounds awfully grating. I actually think he sounds better when singing in a higher register in the chorus but his voice is all kinds of painfully mediocre to my ears. I also think the song is just okay. It's a true Country subject but the lyrics aren't in-depth whatsoever and I'm not a big fan of the production.

The chorus is definitely better than the verses, imo. While I don't think he has a good voice (though it's better than some other artists that I dislike right now), the production is what really drags this down for me... it seems so cheap and generic. There's just no personality to this song at all in the way it's produced in particular. I imagine this could've been a really strong song if it had been given to someone like Chris Young and given a better treatment in the studio, but, as it stands now, I'm just not feeling much from this. I'll admit that I don't think it's just outright terrible or anything though.

According to Music Row, they filmed the new official music video for "Used To Love You Sober" at Coyote Joe's In North Carolina.

Lol are there any songs that wouldn't be better with someone like Chris Young singing? He seems to be the go-to "this song would be better if person x sang it" guy.

According to Music Row, they filmed the new official music video for "Used To Love You Sober" at Coyote Joe's In North Carolina. So it'll be a live video, then, since that's our largest honkeytonk in Charlotte. I don't hate this song. I agree with Indulge, that it's the production more than anything that I dislike. But I'd much prefer to listen to this over most of Cole's output, and all of Chase's.

I think Kane Brown really does have potential. Sure he is going to be lumped with the FGLs, Cole Swindells, Sam Hunts, and Luke Bryan's of the world, however I think he has a better handle on his country side to where he fits in well with the genre.

I love this song, but I think Kane sounds like he's trying really hard to make his voice deep on the verses. The chorus sounds natural and it's the best part of the song. The rest sounds like he's forcing his voice to go somewhere it doesn't want to go.

To me, it doesn't sound like he's trying too hard at all. I think he sounds great in his lower register, unlike how Luke Bryan's voice just fades out when he tries to sing lower in "Strip It Down" (particularly on the "old school beat" / "cowboy boots by your little bare feet" lines in the chorus).
