this is a rant video about music purists who say that music today sucks and the music from their time was better.
What do you think about this matter? Please keep it related to the subject matter.

Please keep it related to the subject matter and in a respectful and constructive manner. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. First of all, is this really necessary in every thread you make? Grow up. Secondly, don't even get me started on "music purists." They're close-minded and stuck in the past with their own self-importance.

When one reaches a certain age, they become nostalgic for the music they grew up with and that will be the music that they go back to. They might still like some new stuff that comes out after that, but that music they grew up with is where it's at and will be what they measure anything new against. It's just the way things are.
I grew up in the 90s and I listen to a lot of stuff from that time (lots of Pop, R&B, Hip Hop and in terms of Dance music, House, Eurodance, and early Trance). I also listen to a lot of 70s (Disco mostly) and 80s (Hi Nrg, Italo Disco, Stock Aitken Waterman/Hit Factory, Freestyle, early House) stuff too as I discovered that music during the 90s so that was just a regular thing for me. But I do like a lot of what has come out since then, but I find that a large percentage of what is coming out just doesn't measure up to what I was into before. I find myself leaning towards artists and acts of the present who make music in the styles that I liked from the past. But I also find myself digging deeper for music I missed out on the first time around.

Why preface every post with this? As long as it doesn't violate the rules and the TOS, everyone is allowed to say what they want. You cannot control the narrative in a section called "Your Opinion Please?" to get the desired response to your question/topic.

Take your own advice. no, spare me the hypocrite bs, I was trying to make a point and a very good one. If you didn't like what I said, that's not my fault. Again, this is not the type of comment I'm looking for.

One last thing, by calling me out, you are defending the same people that attack your music taste, so that makes you the hypocrite, just wanted to let you know.

People are allowed to say what they want and express however they want as long as it's in a respectful way, but making fun of someone/bullying them because they don't agree with their opinions is going too far and I don't want that anymore. I went a bit too far on this video I admit, but I needed to prove a point, that's what it's about.

If you didn't like what I said, that's not my fault. Again, this is not the type of comment I'm looking for. See, this is funny because the same applies to you. If you don't like something someone said, it's not anyone's fault. As soon as you press 'create thread,' it no longer belongs to you because in order to have a discussion, you need involvement from other people and once you send something out there in the form of a new thread, the conversation becomes directed by everyone who partakes. Now, the REALLY funny thing is that this current discussion is a direct result of something YOU posted in your original post. Based on how you know this board and how it works, do you really think a condescending message such the one in your original post would go unnoticed? What really sucks is that I think the intended topic would actually make for a good discussion here but it was ruined from the getgo by your incessant need to control the conversation before it actually had a chance to begin, all because you lack the confidence to let the discussion guide itself because you don't trust anyone here to be able to carry on a conversation without some strict controlling hand. This is all your fault.

For the record, you know nothing about music, so your reply is meaningless." "stupid reply from a stupid person, stfu, troll." "yeah, you have terrible taste in music. Also, your comment sucks." "If you seriously think "Selfie" is a good song, you need to see a mental doctor and it also means your music taste is terrible." "stfu already. you're just trolling at this point. No one cares what you think about Adele." "oh, shut up and give me a break. This is probably from someone who thinks Katy Perry's music is actually good. People like you can't be taken seriously." But tell me more about how other people are bullying YOU.

Although nostalgia plays a big factor in how people view this topic You can't go off by saying that every song at the moment sucks. There is always something good, some bad, and then hidden gems. You can find good music liked by everyone all the time Some songs will be missed off and hidden to most despite being good And then we have the fair share of bad songs yearly So I think there is no better, there usually is equality between the older and newer music. But IMO, right now a lot of the songs around the top of charts are really good, 2014 was the last time where most of the music was just eh. But right now, there is a lot of good shit out there for everyone, sometimes you just gotta dig deep to find treasure.

You cannot control the narrative in a section called "Your Opinion Please?" to get the desired response to your question/topic. I've already been bullied a lot on this site, and I no longer want to put up with it. So you are still posting because...? I mean really, you do this EVERY time: 1. You start a thread, sometimes the topic is kind of basic but a lot of times it's actually something kind of interesting. 2. People respond to the question/topic posed by the thread. 3. You get pissed off at their comments and become antagonistic because your definition of 'not nice' is clearly 'anything that doesn't match my own opinion, which I'm not actually going to reveal until you say something different and then I'm going to be condescending as fuck about it.' 4. Rude attitudes attract rude responses, ergo everyone tells you to suck it. 5. You get butthurt and throw out a bunch of warnable insults. 6. You threaten to report people, despite having made warn-worthy comments yourself. I presume you follow through with those threats. 7. Nothing happens. This has now devolved into you merging steps 1 and 5 with the start of every new thread, and everyone else skips straight to step 4 because we no longer care to entertain your inability to hold a decent discussion with anyone. Now, I bolded #7 for a reason. You would think after this happening multiple times it would be kind of obvious that the mods don't really agree with you that you are being "bullied," otherwise it would have stopped happening by now. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting a different result. if you are tired of being bullied, either get out of your own way or just don't post anymore.

I've considered leaving, but I stick around because I still want to follow the charts and talk about interesting subjects/videos and want feedback on it, not to mention there's some people that enjoy my posts and one of them told me just to ignore the negativity. Plus, I just take a break from the site for a while before coming back, so I don't really feel the need to leave. At this point, I don't care what other posters think of me because they don't know me personally, and what I post does not really reflect how I am in real life (the internet gives me the free ability to post however I want, that's why I'm like this, I'm actually a very nice guy in real life), but still, there is no room for negativity and there shouldn't be. If you disagree with me, do it an manner that is respectful and isn't rude. I've already apologized for all my past actions and moved on, I'm not going to do it anymore. But anyways, I want the comments to be about the video itself, so drop that subject and post what you think about the topic at hand. If it bothers you guys that much, I won't mention it anymore on future posts. Now let's focus on the topic of thread, please.

Anyway, so now that it's all resolved, let's get to talking about Music Purists!
Subject: Music Purists
I guess first, we should establish what music purists are. I always think of them as music fans who are stuck in the 60s and 70s with ideals of what music should and shouldn't be, and tend to lean toward rock and instruments as the primary/only way music should be made. So, Pop music sucks, EDM for one isn't music because it's made with computers, and anyone who relies on an image isn't an artist. Also, performers who incorporate dancing in their shows - not artists either.
I wrote a blog post a few days ago in response to the mini-controversy involving this year's Juno nominations (Canada's music awards) in which representation by women was rather lacking. I thought the criticism was strange because the Junos have historically been very supportive of women, and that's it's probably just coincidence that this year, Bieber, Drake and the Weeknd happened to have really good years, thereby occupying a lot of the main categories. But when I thought more about it, of course it came back to the whole music purist mindset. I think placing blame on the Junos isn't really productive to accomplishing anything and if anything, is just a reactionary response to something without digging into the why. So, looking at the Junos and the #JunoSoMale controversy, a) Men happened to do really well this year, b) some of the Juno categories in question are based on sales, c) according to the Juno's president, no women were submitted to one of the categories and just a few to another.
Where I'm going with this is that women still lack credibility in music with music purists, and music purists tend to be the 'influencers' of what's 'good'. Critics, people who make All-Time lists, etc. My opinion: music purists are closed minded and limited to most music just because they're stuck in the past.

^Basically all of that. Here's a few sentences to add some more of my thoughts on the matter.
Good music is subjective and there has always been disposable tripe being produced. Music purists, who probably didn't like the disposable tripe of their youth either, latch on to the disposable tripe of today and decry the death of "good music".
Even more so, I think it extends to the white hipster indie music bloggers Solange likes to call out. True, FOOD, The ArchAndroid, Aaliyah (self-titled), Afrodisiac, What's The 411?/My Life/Share My World trilogy among many many others are visionary works under the R&B/Hip-Hop/Soul umbrella that are largely ignored or discredited without reason by these crowds.

There's a lot of psychology that goes along with why many people are nostalgic for music from when they were young yadayadayada, but honestly... music is subjective and people should respect that there are varying opinions as to what "good music" is. So we shouldn't patronize or discredit anyone's opinion.

If you came here to criticize my threads and not talk about the topic of this thread, then I suggest you leave and not make these pointless comments, all you managed to do was waste my time with this drivel. And because of you I will be putting back the disclaimer on future threads. If you comment again in this manner and in a way that's unrelated to the topic I will block you. And yes, I will follow through with this. By the way, I don't care diddly squat what you think of my threads, I don't know you, and if you don't like it, rough, then take your business elsewhere, I never asked for your opinion regarding that matter.

The fact you again seem to misunderstand how a forum works doesn't shock me. Guess what? Just like your endless droning of how music lacks these days by your barometer of taste or "purist" mentality (lmfao)? People can also respond to it. Your go to phrases for engaging conversation in your threads are usually telling people to go fuck themselves whenever someone gives valid criticism or calls out your borderline trolling or rehashing the same tired subject of this. You are always a petulant child when someone disagrees with you and it's just comedy. Also, how are you going to have the audacity of putting up a disclaimer when you don't even follow your own guidelines you set?

The fact that you reverted to the finger pointing game is just the proof I need. I used to do that too, but it doesn't excuse your actions. You still told him to "shut his mouth" in the same thread that you said "there is no room for negativity"... and this seems to be a recurring problem.
