I wonder if Justin Bieber will actually land ROTY and SOTY nominations as he is predicting. I know Love Yourself was a big hit and co-written by Ed Sheeran but I would be kind of surprised if it happened. Didn't Justin insult the Grammys when he didn't get BNA? I doubt they'd want to reward him, but they could nominate him for ratings purposes. Plus they love Ed Sheeran so a SOTY nomination is at least possible.

I hope "Make Me" gets in for Pop Duo/Group Performance. If Britney's album is out in time I could see her sneaking into Pop Album.

Any updated AOTY predictions?

Eh, nothing has really happened in the last month+, has it? Adele, Beyonce and David Bowie remain the frontrunners, I think. Radiohead, Chance the Rapper, Drake and Rihanna are probably the next tier. Then Justin Bieber, Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar. Any strong Country contenders?
If Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Frank Ocean or Bruno Mars actually put something new out in the next 2 months, they will be contenders.

Any strong Country contenders? Nah. Nothing strong enough to break into the all-genre field. If anything, the top Country albums of the past year that are also likely to get Grammy attention in any of the Country field categories are from Sturgill Simpson, Carrie Underwood, Brandy Clark, Joey + Rory, Dierks Bentley, Margo Price, Brothers Osborne, and possibly Cam and/or Maren Morris. Stapleton's Traveller was the top-selling Country album of the past year, I believe, but that already saw its wins and nominations at the most recent ceremony. In terms of sales, I believe the ones following his tallies are Luke Bryan's Kill the Lights (but he's never even been nominated for a Grammy and I don't think this era will be the one to change that) and Underwood's Storyteller. Could be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure those were two of the most commercially-successful releases that are eligible for nominations this year.

I feel like Album of the Year will go to Beyoncé for Lemonade. Not only was it critically acclaimed but it has sold very well, there's controversy, and they owe her for not giving it to her for her best album IMO, "Beyoncé", which I thought for sure it was going to win. Adele looked like the clear winner last winter but the hype has died down a lot since her singles post-Hello haven't done much. I think she'll take either Song or Record of the Year for Hello, maybe even both but I'm leaning more on Record.

I think they'll give the Album of the Year to David Bowie. The Grammy's just seems to never want to hand it over to Beyoncé, it's like she's cursed or something lol.
Adele will probably sweep the rest of the noms, as usual.
I don't think this one is gonna be all that exciting. Hopefully the performances aren't going to be as terrible as the 2016 show.

There's no one else getting Album of the Year over David Bowie and to consider anyone else is pure delusional. The next closest would be Adele considering she's outsold everyone discussed combined.

I don't think cursed is the word you're looking for lol Grammys historically do not favor r&b (or hip-hop, or country) artists for AOTY so Bey is at a natural disadvantage by dint of her genre. If her self-titled couldn't get it when she was the clearest frontrunner of the pack that year, it's hard to imagine Lemonade suddenly finding the momentum to overcome a deceased rock legend's swan song and a record-breaking pop behemoth. Speaking of, I'm not entirely sold on Bowie or Adele being the 'clear' winner right now. I think their albums are the two frontrunners for the category, but buzz for both has died down considerably since their releases. I suppose if I had to place a bet right now I'd give the edge to Bowie, but everything feels kind of quiet and ho-hum right now. I agree with you that this year isn't shaping up to be a very exciting one.

My prediction for AOTY 2017:
25 Lemonade Blackstar - David Bowie A Moon Shaped Pool - Radiohead Beck's next album
Although Drake and Kanye could easily get that 5th spot too.

Yeah, she often sweeps her genre noms but to my recollection she only has the one general category win (SOTY). it's sort of surprising but sort of not...not having AOTY is one thing but you would think she'd have a ROTY by now.

Right?! Well regardless of category she still is way more awarded than the rest of her female peers. I'm hoping Gaga and Bruno release their lead singles before the show, not necessarily so they're nominated this time around, but just to see them perform something. I think they're the best female and male pop artists of the 2010's generation and their presences are missed. If the show ends up being all the tweeny-bop acts like Bieber and Fifth Harmony I'm gonna be disappointed. Sidenote: I still can't believe Meghan Trainor won best new artist. I think that's a pretty clear sign of how much this show has fallen in the last ~5 years.

Lady Gaga has "Perfect Illusion" coming out in September, produced by Mark Ronson and Kevin Parker of Tame Impala. Could be a contender for Pop Solo Performance. If it's very good, it could become a general field contender.

I think they'll give AOTY to Bowie as a career recognition kind of thing.
Beyoncé and Adele are locks to get a nod, but neither album is likely to maintain much buzz into the next year. Bey had a better chance with her last album (also agree about how shocking it is that she doesn't have a ROTY yet).
Views was probably too big to ignore, although it's also largely deemed as Drake's most uneven album yet so it's not a lock.
If Loud got a AOTY nod I think ANTI could do it, and certainly deserves it more IMO.

So will Frank Ocean knock someone out of AOTY now with his release? Not sure, but he may push the R&B vote to split between him and Beyoncé. If they're both nominated, it could spell really good news for 25.

I think Views will make it onto the AOTY list the same way that Loud and The END did. Weak critical reception, but the massive commercial success will see it to that point. BBTM was somewhat similar too last year. No one expected it to win, but no one was surprised or really complained at its placement in the final 5.
25 Blackstar Lemonade Views
I think those 4 will definitely make it on. The fifth may be the deciding factor, but moreso I think it'll come down to how successful the Bowie estate is at moving potential voters for 25 and Lemonade (especially the traditionalists that backed 21) to their corner.

Don't get me wrong, I'm the #1 TS stan. I'm just saying that since SIO which wasn't exactly a lyrical masterpiece and was released pretty late, got a nomination for SOTY, a nomination for Gaga's new single is possible.

There've been a billion better songs than SIO by top-tier artists like Swift that haven't been nom'd. We haven't even heard Gaga's new single. For all we know, it could be a colossal bomb. Whatever it is, it doesn't mean it'll get nominated just because it's by Gaga and it could likely be better than SIO (which didn't set the bar very high anyways).

2017 Grammy Preview: Industry Insiders on the Artists to Watch 8/26/2016 by Billboard Staff From Beyonce to Adele to the presumed Prince tribute, here's what industry insiders predict for the 2017 Grammys. "There's no way we won't get a Prince tribute, and there's no way Questlove won't be involved. I can see Beyoncé having a moment and Dave Grohl crushing the guitar solo on 'Purple Rain.' The Grammys love Dave Grohl." -- Jess Besack, director of music programming, SiriusXM Adele, Beyoncé and David Bowie are locks for album of the year nominations, but Adele and Beyoncé could cancel each other out." -- Diane Warren, songwriter "It will be interesting to see how voters treat Kanye, Chance the Rapper and Drake. Will they finally grasp that hip-hop is the most fearlessly experimental category of popular music, bar none?" -- Mike Caren, creative officer, Warner Music Group "Paul Simon's Stranger to Stranger and Sturgill Simpson's A Sailor's Guide to Earth have real shots at getting lots of nominations." -- Danny Strick, co-president, Sony/ATV U.S. Music Publishing www.billboard.com/articles/news/magazine-feature/7487706/2017-grammy-preview-industry-insiders?utm_source=twitter
