Sabre....just a question. There's a lot I don't understand, but does a 3rd song off an album got those hourly plays? Yes. There's no album released yet and nobody (other than Keith's team and his label) has heard the song. As long as that's the case, a song gets hourly airplay on the day of its release (if the artist is a big enough star).

Haven't heard the song yet but I'm hoping it's good enough for him to get his 20th Billboard #1!

Those 'saturation launches' for new singles can occur with any track on a forthcoming new CD by a format superstar, and frequently the first single, but such a strategy can certainly be executed for any CD track by any label promotion team, so if Keith's new single gets such a launch, do not be surprised.
With one very notable exception (Taylor's WANEGBT which was essentially DOA instantaneously upon release), such a strategy works very well.
When such a strategy is utilized with a Thursday launch as was the case with Noise, Good Girl and Never Wanted Nothing More as well ad one of Brad's singles (can't recall which one but I'm sure someone reading this does), the overriding purpose is to eliminate the probability of a huge plunge in week #2 after that splashy engineered debut, which is exactly what happened to Taylor's tune, which never sniffed the top 10 and was off the Mediabase chart less than three months after that launch.

I know "River Bank" was a Friday radio release.

Holy drum loops and synthesizers batman!
On a more serious note I really like the lyrics and it's super catchy but there's no denying how non-country that production is. Love that banjo though. I wouldn't expect anything less from Keith though. Still an excellent song.

This song would be pretty good if Keith's voice wasn't completely drowned out by the production. God, that chorus is so cluttered. I like most of the lyrics and that banjo solo is pretty perfect, but there's just too much going on here. This might be a grower for me though because I felt the same way about the production of "We Were Us" at first and I ended up loving that one.

I like the banjo (comfort food-esque Keith) and melody but that production is an overbearing wall of sound. It just distracts me. I agree with matty005 that this song fits great during the summer months but I'm personally not totally feeling this one right now.

My first thought is that this is a really good pop song. But man, it's hard to believe that this song is considered to be in the same genre as songs like "Nobody To Blame", "Humble and Kind", "Shut Up And Fish", etc. I mean, sure, there's a banjo here...but Fuse practically sounds like traditional country compared to this. I mean, this is pretty much straight-up synthpop/EDM.
I love Keith, I always have. And I do like this song. And I also know that I'll probably get harped on for saying this, but this is not a country song. Keith has always mixed pop, rock, and country exceptionally well, but lately his music has gone in such an electronic direction that it doesn't resemble country anymore. And that surprises me, because Keith has always been known as an extremely talented musician and instrumentalist, and yet his most recent album and now this newer material has featured a ton of electronic production in place of actual instruments.
The biggest issue I have with this song is the vocal effects applied to Keith's voice. During the chorus, it sounds like the vocals are mostly layered, and sometimes layered vocals can work (Jerrod Niemann's "Lover, Lover" is a prime example of that)...but on "Wasted Time" the layered vocals just make Keith's voice sound mechanical. I think I hear some auto-tune as well. Keith has a great voice, so I don't understand why he'd want to bury it under all of these strange vocal effects and production gimmicks.
I'm hoping that there are at least a few more rootsier-sounding tracks on the album (the song that features some rapping from Pitbull, though, has me feeling rather discouraged; I obviously haven't heard it yet, but I can't imagine I'll be a fan of that one). I absolutely loved "Break On Me" though, and while I do like "Wasted Time", I'm having trouble viewing it as a country song. It's Keith so I'm sure it'll be a hit, but I'm hoping that he eventually goes back to the sound of songs like "I Told You So", "Stupid Boy", "Til Summer Comes Around", etc. I'm just not a big fan of music with a lot of electronic production, and unfortunately that's the direction that Keith's gone in over the past few years.

Man Keith, this whole album era so far doesn't sound like you. It sounds way too pop so far and at times the production is overbearing too. I know Keith Urban was never traditional country but my gosh this is the 3rd song in a row where it's felt more like a pop song. I wish we had the Keith Urban who made such gems like "Til Summer Comes Around", "I Told You So" (I think Keith's song is better than Carrie Underwood's song titled same but different overall song), "Stupid Boy", "Once In A Lifetime", "Kiss A Girl", "Sweet Thing". So many Keith Urban gems, now I find myself lately either incredibly bored by the material (Raise Em Up, Break On Me, We Were Us) disappointed (Somewhere In My Car, Little Bit Of Everything, Break On Me) or just wondering "what the h*ll happened" (John 3, Wasted Time) Edit: And of course jhomes87 explains it a lot better than I can

Oh no Keith! I'm a huge Keith fan and I have to say I agree with a lot of what's being said here. Maybe it will grow on me, but don't care for all that production. I agree with the lyrics a lot, but when I go back thinking about times I've wasted in my life...all that noisy production is not in my memories. Keith does have a beautiful voice and doesn't need all that studio enhancement. Why Keith, why??
When I hear a song for the first time, I want it to hit me in a good way on first listen, but it's gonna take a lot for this song I fear.
Now I think I will go and cry a while. First time in 12 years not feeling a Keith Urban song.

Confused as to why they released two separate singles for this (one standalone and one with the pre-order). That's just going to split sales and the iTunes position won't be as high as it should be.
I'll listen to this when I can. Keith is one of my all-time favorite country artists, but I haven't really been into his music through the past couple of albums. I loved "Cop Car", but the rest has not lived up to my love for his early music.

Ashley....so glad you like it! The more I listen the more I'm beginning to like it! It's just that production! I've already gotten it and the album on ITune.
Looking forward to hearing it performed live!

The more I hear this, the more I really love it. Keith's uptempo songs are just refreshing to me. His voice is just so sincere and enthusiastic in his delivery. There's no one else in country with that quality for me. Of course, the only country element in this song is the banjo, but melding the banjo with that production is smart in my opinion because of the cross-over appeal -- hey, Keith just wants to entertain as many people as he can -- what's wrong with that.

Wow, I heard this and thought it was insanely catchy on first listen. Very upbeat! I love the banjo that runs through it. It might be a lot of electronic sounding stuff but I think it's pretty fun. I think this will do very well on the charts.

Here are three song titles he has confirmed besides "Boy Gets A Truck" and "Gone Tomorrow, Here Today". They are "Blue Ain't Your Color", "Sun Don't Let Me Down" and the final song which could be another valid choice for the music video picture is called "Sun" which is a collaboration with rapper Pitbull. It features one rap verse with Pitbull. I'm thinking you got something mixed up here. "Sun Don't Let Me Down" is the song with Pitbull. There isn't a separate song called "Sun". Keith supposedly cut one I've heard called "Boy Gets a Truck"....doubt it will be the next single, but hope it made the album....a very cool song. Well, the track list is on iTunes now and apparently "Boy Gets A Truck" didn't make it onto the album. I suppose it's possible that there could be a deluxe version of the album that features a few extra tracks (Keith's last 2 albums had deluxe versions), with "Boy Gets A Truck" potentially being one of them, but as of now there's only the 12-track, standard edition of Ripcord available for pre-order on iTunes. Confused as to why they released two separate singles for this (one standalone and one with the pre-order). That's just going to split sales and the iTunes position won't be as high as it should be. I'm only seeing one "Wasted Time" single on iTunes (although it's possible there were two earlier). I'm assuming all 3 singles will download automatically if you pre-order the album, and for each single it lists the album as Ripcord, rather than "Wasted Time - Single", "Break On Me - Single", etc.

This is definitely a pretty fun song, and the banjo is a great touch, but I echo everybody else's sentiment's about the production. Are all of these electronic effects necessary? I feel the song might actually sound a little better with real drums and only minor studio effects. I know this will grow on me though and I'm sure it will be one of my favorites by the time summer starts.
Also, I must say that the Pitbull collaboration certainly concerns me. I won't make much noise about it now because I'm okay with artists experimenting with other artists, genres, etc. But if the song is a trainwreck and they decide to release it to country radio...

I don't really like the electronic sound because this is Country music, but the banjo part is my favorite. This song isn't bad. I just think the electronic sound didn't need to be the main thing I'm hearing in the beginning and throughout the song.
