Yeah, I thought it would shoot up, but I'm glad it didn't, cause we all know how that can go.

She hasn't had an Urban radio hit in 6 years, so it's not surprising this didn't explode there on day one (especially without a radio deal).

I can see this going top 10 after her SNL performance.

She's not a mainstream it girl anymore, but the right song can put her right back in the game. And I think this could be it - it's just not going to be instant for the general public or radio.

Its initial performance on iTunes is very weak. Yah... I didn't wanna say anything, but... this isn't high on iTunes in the US, or any other region for that matter. Then again, it kinda came out of nowhere, and it's not like Alicia is Rihanna who can suddenly drop a single on iTunes and have it go #1 within an hour or so. Fingers crossed her SNL performance helps it get into the top 10.

I'm confused with this new direction. I'd even say I'm disappointed, because it doesn't grown on me. You Don't Know My Name was, is and will always be her best lead single anyway. A pure masterpiece

No front page ads on Itunes, no promo and no radio deal....i'd say it's doing great.
Its trajectory on Itunes shows it is not being bought because she is Alicia Keys.....radio airplay and word of mouth is building the momentum.
Their strategy will pay off. We don't want a Top 10 hit based on sales. We want an airplay hit. A radio hit. Because that's what's gonna move albums.
Wait until you all hear "For You". I hope her SNL performances are "In Common" and "For You".
Another smash waiting.

What holds me back from truly liking it is her tone. She doesn't have the voice to sing in this soft register imo, especially since she f**ked it up by screaming so much.
I like the sound though.

Just like the production here is very Illangelo, but ah its core this is a sophisticated R&B mid tempo and has Alicia's style stamp all over it.

I was thinking almost the opposite. Years of wailing out of of her range has kind of left it so that singing in this softer register is the preferred option for her. The idea of Alicia belting these days makes me nervous. One thing I really like about the song is toward the end when you hear her ad-libbing - it is mixed down so that it's a background layer rather than on top of the chorus. On the one hand I love the effect, but on the other I can't help but wonder if that was purposely done because keeping her at full volume would have been too abrasive.

Finally! This is really solid. It's definitely tapping into current popular sounds, but who gives a crap. I'm just glad she's out of her box.
My only complaint, the lack of bridge. There's a huge gap for it there and it never comes.

Where there feels like something's missing (like a bridge) is the perfect spot for a rapper for Urban radio. Drake is the obvious answer here, especially with the success of the similar "One Dance".

It does not need a bridge. The song is short and perfect the way it is. I could see a rapper for a remix but that's it.
This song is crack though. I played it so much.

Yeah, something needs to happen there. If there was an interesting musical breakdown, I wouldn't mind. It's just a gap in the song where something should be. Either way, this song is still awesome.

I'm late to the party, but this is hot. It's like "Un-thinkable" and some of her earlier works, but with a tribal/island feel.

I find her to be the female version of Usher when it comes to commercial success. She's still relevant but she is no longer in her commercial peak. However, with the right promotion she can have a hugely successful era.
Her talent is too rich for this era to be wasted.

Time will tell where this ranks among all of Alicia's songs for me, but most of my favorites from her are album cuts.
This is already in my top half of singles from her (and there's only a few I haven't liked; most of them recent).

I'd give Usher an easy advantage in the UK. Alicia is MASSIVE in Italy (or was in the past at least) but I think it varies significantly from country to country.
