I'm sure that racist fool will be warned no doubt, but like can it get double warned or something or straight to suspension. If someone called out Madonna you know the Pulse police would be swarming with "stop" signs in thread!

My growing issue with the VMAs is that they've been milking the same artists for the better part of the last decade. When it's not Rihanna, Beyoncé, or Kanye, it's Katy, Gaga, Taylor, etc. I understand these artists are huge commercial properties and I'm not here to dispute their talent. I just feel like there are so many gifted up-and-comers who would kill at a chunk of the time slot filled with retreads of previous years. More of a balance would be nice.

Very few singers can handle an uptempo live. That's what makes the likes of Whitney and Mariah's voices so iconic. They did it all with ease. That is why I'm spoiled and nitcpicky. I witnessed these two women and Janet in their prime. I sat listening to Patti Labelle, Chaka Khan, Stevie Wonder, Prince, Luther Vandross. Excuse me if i'm not impressed easily by this s**t! I only praise when someone steps up and does something amazing. Not negative, just seen so much better than to see Arian Grnade mumble for 3 mins while wearing disney ears. I've definitely noticed a huge downward trend in talented vocalists with the big new artists of this decade. It seems like it's basically just Adele for big new acts in this decade that can really sing. Maybe Bruno to a lesser extent.

Honstly probably the wrong thread but its not just even vocalists , overall talents. Like barely anyone can even dance! You had to have a skill back in the day like either sing very well or dance very well. Now people who don't dance, sing or write their own music are making it big. Its mindblowing. Like Ciara is the last great dancer that came out. Adele is a good singer. Crickets after that.

I mean we got Gaga, Katy, Rihanna, Bieber, and Taylor debuting within a few years of each other last decade. Seems like we've yet to have a true major pop star emerge ever since. Again, Bruno is the closest. Adele is massive obviously, but cut from a totally different cloth.

With that said, I'd say there have been good dancers to come out since Ciara, namely TINASHE. It's super confusing to me how Tinashe who can sing on key, dance her fucking ass off, doesn't get one performance, yet Rihanna.... gets four performances in one night? Weird.

^ Tinashe is good, like Aayliah good but Ciara is like a world class performer and probably best since Ciara/Usher/Chris Brown. I do however want to see more Tinashe, anywhere.

Even ignoring "talent", I just don't see the likes of a Nick Jonas, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, or Demi Lovato as ever being these huge iconic global superstars. I mean you look at some of the heavy hitters of the late 00's like Rihanna, Gaga, or Katy and they had already become 5x the superstars the aforementioned artists are now in just a fraction of the time. Like, where the hell are this decade's big new pop stars at? Thank goodness a lot of last decade's are still around to save us a little bit.

I may make a thread on this in a different forum (feel free to beat me to it), but my hypothesis is this: In the Internet/social media age, it's easier than ever before for music creators to get their work out there. This has its pros and cons. While many artists now have a platform for exposure they never would've had in previous decades, a lot of mediocrity is oversaturating the system. No talent is really able to stand out anymore; when it does, it's quickly lost to the vacuum of Spotify, YouTube, etc. to make way for the next one. And with such a heavy emphasis on appearance, visuals, and social media engagement, actual musical talent has become sort of secondary. Of course, this is completely subjective based on my own experience and listening habits. But I am concerned we now live in an age where we will no longer be able to produce the likes of Madonna, Prince, or Stevie Wonder. The superstar is effectively dead.

You should make a thread on this, it's qute an interesting topic. I just feel lucky enough to have lived in an era and experienced super stars with SUPER talent to accompany it. We won't have another talented huge star like Michael Jackson, or Prince and even those huge stars that are still with us aren't really that appreciated mainstream anymore (Mariah, Janet, etc).

G Eazy? I thought I might have missed something big but looking at even just a couple of pages in this thread seems to indicate this show was a dud.

Apparently Beyonce is racist& a criminal for bringing the parents of Trayvon, Mike, Eric& the other one(can't remember his name)to the awards& performing the "anti police song" \(-_-)/ Positions of Songs performed tonight:#8 Mama Said (discount, hope it free falls super fast) .........And we still have those people here(not the band) but looking at even just a couple of pages in this thread seems to indicate this show was a dud. The only interesting things were Rihanna(3rd time), Beyonce& Drake with Rihanna at the end

Now I see why Adele skipped the show. Adele won nothing this year. Seriously?! As the second most nominations after Bey, this is just insane. Maybe this is the last for her since Adele wont make any albums in 2-3 years (except she has longevity single released in 2017 or movie soundtrack). Hope she bring out most grammy's tho.

My thoughts:
Beyoncé shut sh*t down as usual. I was left speechless after that performance even though it was too long. I don't think I'm ready to see her live. Lord.
I enjoyed Rihanna's performances. Did she try to pat her pastry during LOTB? lol.
I f**king screamed at Amber Rose during Kanye's interlude or whatever it was. And Kanye was a f**king fool and I was there for it.
Not enough Joanne Prada.
This Aubrih segment is so cute.

Loved Rihanna and Beyoncé, both did brilliant
Britney's lip syncing is so bad, lip syncing I mean not the performance as a whole, she should at least TRY to move her lips in sync with the lyrics
Chainsmokers & Halsey and Future were decent
Ariana Grande was bit of wtf
Kanye was a trainwreck as usual and he always entertains
This "no host" thing didn't work. Just give the job to Chelsea Handler or Amy Schumer or basically just anyone who's familiar with hosting. (Although I like DJ Khaled a lot)

Meghan Trainor has potential, and I think she could still end up being as big as a Katy Perry or a Rihanna, but if she can't do better than Thank You, she's out too.

Was there a host this year? Or no? No traditional host. There were various "correspondents" - DJ Khaled and Jay Pharoah in the stands, Nicole Byer backstage, and Key and Peele playing "social media influencers" in the press box. The latter two were probably the closest things to "hosts" - they appeared after most segments to sarcastically deliver bad jokes.

She's not a great singer, songwriter or even dancer anymore. She can barely speak. So what's the appeal? I can understand not every artist is going to have the whole package. I won't expect Adele to dance or Taylor to belt, but some acts seem to have nothing going for them.
