Akon Justin Timberlake Timbaland Nelly Furtado Fergie T-Pain
Man, late 2006 to mid 2008 were such great years in music.
I think it all started to go downhill when Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift and Katy Perry became relevant...
There are still great songs that come out now but from 2006 to mid 2008, like 75 percent of the songs coming out were songs I liked. Even back before 2006 as well. After mid 2008 when Katy Perry/Lady Gaga/Taylor Swift etc became relevant and popular the music went downhill and now I usually only like 20 percent of the songs that come out.
Am I the only one who feels this way too?

Monroe4 Minutes to be a LegendAdonis the DemiGod!P!nkch TheO™ Edit: @djgeneral (no idea what his actual username was) ...this thread is trash. I did enjoy the rhythmic pop period of 06-07, actually more than the end of the decade of 08-09 when it was morphing into the electropop period, but still sounded on the thinner side production wise for the most part. Somewhere I have an instrumental version of Shock Value that is exponentially better than the full version. ...but this thread is still trash.

Lol you know damn well why this thread is trash, like all of your threads where you try to needlessly shoehorn your opinion in a whiny manner from the start.

If you do not like the thread and want to complain then go do it somewhere else. Or else I will report you and flood your posts for derailing a thread. If you got nothing nice to say, do not say it. All I am doing is stating my opinion of what I feel. I did not call you or anyone else out. So stop trying to start drama for no dang reason. Kepish.

LMAO no need to get your panties in a bunch. There is nothing remotely difficult about making this exact topic with the same intended purpose, still stating your opinion, and not coming across as so childish and inane in that post.
But keeping this thread on track, I also associate PCD's Buttons with this period since it hit that summer that Promiscuous did. The hottest track they ever did imo, that folksy string was very well used.

They were big during those years but they are not the biggest names around. And for those who grew up or got into music around those times, those might have greater importance, but within the context of the biggest names ever, they are just a drop in the bucket.
These are the only names that would be acceptable for such a list: Annie Lennox, Aretha Franklin, Barbra Streisand, Beyonce, David Bowie, Depeche Mode, Diana Ross, Dolly Parton, Donna Summer, Elvis Presley, Eminem, Fleetwood Mac, Giorgio Moroder, Janet Jackson, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Kylie Minogue, Led Zeppelin, Madonna, Mariah Carey, Michael Jackson, Nirvana, Pink Floyd, Prince, Rolling Stones, Stevie Wonder, Stock Aitken Waterman, The Beatles, The Temptations, Tina Turner, 2Pac, and Whitney Houston.

Kinda agree tbh. I find the current pop girls' hits are catchy but forgettable (except Gaga's). Their albums are boring and full of fillers. Maybe I am not really into electro pop like rhythimic pop...

While there were definitely some good songs during 06-07, I much prefer the dancepop hits in 08-09, but it all comes down to one's taste in music.
I still jam out to London Bridge and The Way I Are

Pop from 2006 to 2008 was alright. I liked Nelly Furtado's Loose era and most of Fergie, for example, but 2009-2011 was so much better. The generic electro pop of those few years was head and shoulders above most of the big hits of 2007.
No name electropop >>> T-pain and akon

I'm glad Akon and T-Pain are no longer relevant, I could't stand 10 seconds of their music.

Wasn't that the time when songs like "Laffy Taffy", "You're Beautiful", "Bad Day", "London Bridge", "I Wanna F**k You", "Beautiful Girls", and "Crank Dat (Soulja Boy)" became #1 hits? Yeah, not exactly a good time for pop music. I'll take Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, and Bruno Mars over Akon, Fergie, and Soulja Boy any day.
I do like plenty of songs from that period of time, particularly songs from Timbaland (one of the best pop producers of the 2000s), Justin Timberlake, and Nelly Furtado. Those, to me, were the bright spots of that era of popular music.

I wasn't much of a fan of the electro dance movement of the late 00s/early 10s, but 06-07 popular music wasn't much better. With a few exceptions, I don't hold that time period near and dear to me. Even though I admit to liking some songs by T-Pain and Akon, I never thought they were great artists, and I don't really miss them. Also, they're pretty much responsible for the overuse of auto-tune in that time period, no thanks. I don't care much for the other artists mentioned except Justin, and he's still around, he's just on hiatus. And honestly I prefer the stuff of today than back then. And I agree with other people, this wasn't a very good thread.

like 75 percent of the songs coming out were songs I liked This is how I feel about about this decade's music. At least 75% of songs created these days, I like. I guess I won't like music much in 2026 then?

I don't like either of them. The only Akon song I like is the one where he did vocals for Madonna and that one David Guetta song.

I enjoyed the artists listed in the original post. What a time.
T-Pain and Akon were a force in urban music. T-Pain had rappers and R&B singers experimenting with autotune. Akon crossed over to Pop, gave us Lady Gaga, and crafted some catchy dance-pop tunes. These two were slaying as featured artists.
Timbaland was pretty much everywhere in 2007. He had some Top 40 hits as a producer ("Try Again", "Work It", and "Cry Me River") before he decided to go Pop. I enjoyed most of his projects during those years. He was scoring hits on the urban format as well, especially with Fabolous and Justin Timberlake. His remix to OneRepublic's "Apologize" crossed over to the R&B/Hip Hop chart in 2008.
I loved Fergie's singles. Didn't care for "London Bridge" initially. The follow up singles were great. I remember she rapped on one of Nelly's (rapper) promotional singles. That ended up getting some urban airplay.

I loved this era of pop music, when I listen to songs like "Say It Right", "Glamorous", "Sexy Back", "What Goes Around", etc. the music still sounds fresh and a lot less outdated than the music of the Gaga/Katy/Rihanna/Kesha era when fun but cheap electropop dominated from around 2009-2011..... But even then, I'll take that era over this current one....
We're currently in the Mid 2010's and in comparison to music 10 years ago.... the decline is definitely there. Even the "trash" music of 2006 (think Akon, T-Pain, etc.) was still catchy and light-hearted and somewhat listenable. The pop music of today is a mix of insufferable mush like "7 Years" and "See You Again" and noisy, uninspired EDM led by vocal synths (thanks a lot DJ Snake), and monotonous trap music that lacks any sort of redeeming melody or lyrics....
The first part of this decade in music was still miles better than where it is currently...
The mid 2000's >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> The Mid 2010's easily

The first part of this decade in music was still miles better than where it is currently... The mid 2000's >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> The Mid 2010's easily disagree with you 100%. The early 2010's were awful, just a bunch of annoying, nothing EDM-songs which felt like they were easy to make and no actual effort was given to make these songs. It felt like any artist could have an easy hit with generic, uninspired and annoying club trash with a simple beat and repetitive drop. And the music had the worst elements of dance music I ever heard. Basically, put annoying simple dance beat with awful buildups and drops, sound like a robot, sing about getting drunk and partying while repeating the chorus a billion times, and you instantly have a hit. At least DJ Snake's music is more interesting that the same nonsense that was in at the time, and he switches it up once in a while. Also, the diversity we have now compared to then is great, different styles and different sounds. The only good stuff about the early 2010's was Adele and Bruno Mars exploding to the scene and the beginning of the indie-folk movement which was popular for a while. Other than that, the early 2010's were full of forgettable crap that I'm glad aren't popular anymore. As for 2006-2007, it was slightly better than the early 2010's, but not by that much. A lot of the sounds were still very generic and formulaic, and I don't really miss half of the artists walker9 listed. Still, there were several songs from that time period that I did enjoy, but I still prefer today than anything from either of those era's. Anything before the mid-00's, though, is better than today, that being said. So in the end mid-2010's>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>early 2010's, it's not even a contest.
