That can't be right. Singles don't impact radio on Thursdays and there is almost no time between the announcement and the supposed release date. Something's fishy...

I don't think I doubt this song being released to radio -- why would All Access put it up there for the heck of it -- but that release date is not right. Just odd. Never put it past that site to have a mix-up...

This is such an odd release. With all the time that's passed since the title track fell off the charts and with it failing to reach the Top 30, I definitely did not expect a third single. If this is really being geared up for a radio release now after such a big gap and following a low-impact single, then I'm rather confused. Looking past all that, this doesn't sound like a hit to me, so I don't think this is a good idea at all. I can't see this doing anything that his last single, which was very radio-friendly, couldn't do. I also don't particularly care for this song: just listened to it once for the first time and it sounded quite sleepy to me.

I agree, if this is indeed his next single, I think it's probably my favorite single of his career. It's a shame that it probably won't do much of anything at radio. I feel like just a few years ago this song could have been a big hit. Sometimes I just get so frustrated with how much country radio has changed it the past few years and not for the better IMO.

It's so unfortunate because I love this song. It's one of my favorites on the album and possibly of anything he's released, period. Between the lackluster chart performance of "Southern Style" and the gap between - it will most likely do the same or less than SS did. It's a shame because Darius hasn't been a frontrunner in country music, but he is very solid...IMO. I'm afraid that if this doesn't perform well, UMG could let him go. The only thing going for this album is "Homegrown Honey" and the tour, both of which ended much too long ago to hold any traction.

To me, this is indicative of Darius not quite knowing where to go next. He has probably missed out on the booking and promoting of a Hootie and the Blowfish reunion tour for this summer, but I would bank on it for next summer. A festival and amphitheater tour would rake in the dough in the 30-50 demographic. In my opinion, that's the best market for them right now, as opposed to arenas or theatres.
Country radio treated him very well for being somebody coming in from outside the genre, whose past band music really isn't that different from what they're playing now, ironically. Not sure what kind of awards or accolades he collected during his country format days, and I could be way of base by suspecting that this is the swan song, but I am impressed, pleased, and proud of his time as a solo artist. Although, I didn't particularly like Homegrown Honey. I'd compact it and just say HH, but meh, sometimes a reader doesn't know the abbreviation for every artist's song in the last 8 years.

I actually don't think he's done quite yet. He's probably just using this song as a filler. He's working on new music last I heard.

WBEE has this up as their "Music Meeting Song of the Day." So this one is Darius' next single.
I'm thinking May 5th is the official "release to radio" date and that the impact date will be one of those following Mondays.

This song is now on All Access' Cool New Music so I'm assuming this was sent to radio over the past 24 hours. What sparks my interest in this was a conversation I had with Windmills yesterday. Since Darius is part of the Megaticket concert series this summer (I've heard numerous commercials on his show at Darien Lake on local stations here and I've even given some away on the SPORTS stations I'm currently working for, lol), it might explain why Capitol decided for one more single off Southern Style, and why they picked now to release it. If the label has reason to believe that a radio conglomerate will support the single off the bat -- like of I don't know...iHeartMedia (with markets that space Live Nation concert areas) -- then that could spell a connection since Live Nation and Clear Channel used to have same owner. It could be a scenario like Big Machine/Cumulus/"I Like The Sound Of That". The new music from Darius is well underway from what I know but perhaps they're not eager to release the new music at this point in time and perhaps this song can capitalize on Darius' big summer tour. I'm not banking money on it but just food for thought. If there's not some suspicion from the label that radio will support the song, at least to begin with, then this is a waste of time if I was in charge.

I hope this does well for him. It's a great song.
Edit: it was sent "for Mother's Day AirPlay." So I suspect it may not be forcefully pushed by Capitol.

I'd have to agree that there must be something "else" at play, behind the scenes. I don't see any way they leave that big a gap between singles, especially since the last one was a while ago and did very little on the charts.
The Rascal Flatts comparison is notable because if I remember correctly, there was a decent gap between "Riot" and "I Like the Sound of That".

The gap between "Riot" leaving the charts and "I Like The Sound Of That's" add date was roughly 3 months -- definitely an oddly-wide gap but not the 7 month gap we're witnessing with "Southern Style" and "So I Sang."

Maybe this is just a special release for Mother's day like one of the comments above said. I really don't see this song doing well. He'd be better off just releasing a whole new song from a new album. I'm quite surprised Darius has kind of slipped since his first 2 albums.

But it's not like artists just have new albums and songs ready to go on a whim. If he is in fact headlining some tours this year, this makes sense to release a song.

But it's not like artists just have new albums and songs ready to go on a whim. If he is in fact headlining some tours this year, this makes sense to release a song. It would've made more sense to put out a single when the title track was finished then so he could've had a hit working its way up the charts by now. Waiting 7 months to put one out and then doing it just because he's going to be out touring really doesn't sound like a good idea to me, especially with this song that isn't very radio friendly. I'm thinking this is probably just a "hey, feel free to remember this song I have for Mother's Day playlists" and then it'll fade away. If this gets an adds date and a legitimate push, I'll be surprised. It'd be like if Miranda Lambert -- who is touring with Kenny Chesney this summer -- just randomly decided to throw "Holding on to You" from Platinum out to radio at this point because no new music is quite ready to go. It wouldn't do any better than "Smokin' and Drinkin'," and this won't do any better than "Southern Style."

rsmatto was right. Capitol Nashville just released this as a Mother's Day special for Darius. Not a full-fledged single. From Billboard.
