Chainsmokers have low chances of going to #1. Dance songs historically don't ever reach those heights; in recent history, the closest we've gotten are No. 4 for Turn Down for What, Wake Me Up, Lean On, and I Took a Pill in Ibiza, unless I'm forgetting something.

Yeah, I was hesitant to add them, since they were starting to slow down on the rise. But the point was to be far reaching and include ones that had a long shot. You're right about the Dance songs, but it strikes me as a little odd. There doesn't seem to be any real reason why a Dance song can't be #1. Many of them are sonically identical to Pop songs and just happen to have the producers as the primary artists. Maybe I'm being ignorant, but "Can't Stop The Feeling" just for example, could just as easily be "Calvin Harris featuring Justin Timberlake". Any of the three new Justin Bieber songs could just as easily be "Skrillex and Diplo featuring Justin Bieber" Panda could just as easily be "DJ Esco featuring Desiigner". Rihanna's "We Found Love In A Hopeless Place" was featuring Calvin Harris and could just as easily be reversed. So I don't really understand what would stop a Dance song from going #1. And Harlem Shake is a Dance song that went #1, but we all know why that was the exception.

I hope Don't Mind can get to #1. Will take 'till August or September to do so. Maybe.

Unlikely but I wouldn't rule out Cheap Thrills right now.

Dance songs historically don't ever reach those heights; in recent history, the closest we've gotten are No. 4 for Turn Down for What, Wake Me Up, Lean On, and I Took a Pill in Ibiza, unless I'm forgetting something. I would add "Cheerleader" in there as its 2015 single version and most well-known guise was a tropical house remix by Felix Jaehn. You're right about the Dance songs, but it strikes me as a little odd. There doesn't seem to be any real reason why a Dance song can't be #1. Many of them are sonically identical to Pop songs and just happen to have the producers as the primary artists. Yeah I get thisโ"We Found Love" is a dance song through and through (and in fact, it did appear on Calvin's album with the credit reversed, like you said), and it seems wrong not to consider it as the biggest dance song of this decade, and one of the biggest ever. Same goes for something like Ariana Grande's "Break Free": Zedd is relegated to a featured credit but it clearly fits his sound and it could easily appear on any of his albums. For what it's worth, "Break Free" charted on Dance/Electronic Songs, and I imagine "WFL" would have too had the chart existed back then. As for the original topic, I don't see anything that screams #1 contender right now tbh. "CSTF" and "One Dance" seem like they might settle in for a while. But mostly I'm just waiting for "Lush Life" to be pushed for the 200th time and finally smash post-"Never Forget You". (seriously though, I get the same summer-smash-in-the-making vibes that I was getting from "Cheerleader" around this time last year, though obviously ~vibes~ aren't a reliable barometer in any way)

I agree that there are no songs right now that scream #1, but here are some I think might have a chance (let it be known that I don't necessarily like all these songs!):
Dont't Let Me Down This Is What You Came For Too Good Don't Mind Just Like Fire Ride Messin Around A Beyonce song, not exactly sure which one, but probably Sorry
I know some of these are long shots, but it's just speculation since it doesn't seem like there's any clear contenders.

Don't Mind: Hell no, it'd be luck to make top 10 Controlla: Drake already had a hell of a struggle to get his first one Too Good: Same as above Needed Me: It's gonna probably peak at 6 or 7 unless something big happens Love On The Brain: No, this isn't a single yet and won't be anytime soon for sure cause Needed Me & KIB & the Calvin collab This Is What You Came For: Highly doubt it Send My Love: probz top 10, but not number 1 Don't Let Me Down: Will probably peak at 4 or 3. Just Like Fire: Will go top ten, not sure about number 1, maybe if it picks up on stremaing soon Ride: Surely not going to outpeak Stressed Out Messin Around: Nope, pretty sure no one wants this anyways Sorry: Not until Bey puts Lemonade on Youtube & Spotify, but still doubt it will go that high

Don't Mind Controlla Too Good Needed Me Love On The Brain
This Is What You Came For
Send My Love
Don't Let Me Down
Cheap Thrills
Ride
Messin' Around Sorry Just Like Fire
Crossed out the ones I can't see ever going to #1.
So I think these have a chance to go to #1 out of what everybody else listed:
Controlla - Maybe, doing very well so far. Too Good - Will probably be the 3rd single after Controlla, so not sure Needed Me - It will be top 50 on pop soon, but #1 is far off. Love On The Brain - Not really sure about this, it will be a while until it's released as a single, that's if it is. Also, it still has lower streams than Sex With Me on Youtube Sorry - Needs to be on Spotify and Youtube Just Like Fire - Streaming needs to increase though
I think it will be ages until the next #1. Panda, One Dance and Can't Stop The Feeling as miles ahead of everything on the Hot 100, and they've all already been #1. The next #1 will probably either be a new release that debuts huge like Justin Timberlake did, if it's not, it will probably be 8 weeks or something until other songs catch up/these songs drop enough.

Can you think of any yourself you think might have a shot?

Yeah, the next #1 will probably be a surprise breakthrough hit that haven't even charted now.

None of these on the list are sure-fire per se, but This Is What You Came For looks to have the most potential as it continues to increase healthily on all major components, and has yet to release the video. One Dance and Can't Stop The Feeling look to be far enough ahead so that This Is What You Came For should outlast them.

The only current charting song that I believe has a chance at #1 is This Is What You Came For and that is only if the music video is epic. If not, One Dance and Can't Stop The Feeling will stay at the top for a good portion of summer or until a big established artist (looking at you Katy and Gaga) drop a huge lead single

Send my love needs to go #1, spotify streaming is quite low yet but maybe it rises soon. It's going for adds at Rhythmic... which has me thinking that rumored Drake (or whomever) remix is still possible. Or they're just confident it's bouncy enough for the format as is. Or that Adele is just a bo$$ a$$ betch. ;)

When I first heard Don't Mind, I had a feeling it would be one of those annoying songs that I can't stand but everyone else seems to love (e.g. Panda, Hot Boy, Fetty Wap, Nasty Freestyle, etc), and it seems that may be happening. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it hit #1 at some point. I've yet to listen to the full song, but from what I've heard of it from chart videos, I'm guessing the main hook to the song is when he says "konnichiwa".

I'm hoping it's DLMD or Send My Love. Also wouldn't mind for it to be Too Good.

I just can't see Don't Mind hitting #1. With the amount of airplay it already has, it's sales do not suggest #1 material. Top ten, sure, especially once you add in the streaming, which it's doing decently in. I'd even bet on top five, but it just doesn't look like it's going #1.
TIWYCF could go #1 once its video drops, but that's not a guarantee.
I think it's more likely the next #1 doesn't exist yet.

Potential candidates for future number ones: Spirits (perhaps inspired by one of the conventions?), Bonbon, and Gold.
Among others already charting: This is What You Came Here For, Send My Love, and You Don't Own Me.

Maybe that doesn't belong here but Zara Larssons Lush Life was quite big hit here in Finland last summer and fall, but what about US? Is it gonna smash there now, at least it was on spotify charts near top-20 couple months ago.
