The time has come. Welcome, members and visitors of Pulse, to Chicken077's countdown of the top 200 songs of all time.
In all honesty, that line is not the most accurate thing to describe the countdown. Sure, it's the 200 songs of all time according to my personal chart, but my personal chart has only lasted for the past 100 weeks. So it's more accurate to say the Top 200 Songs of Weeks 1 - 100 or the Top 200 Songs of 2015 and 2016. Regardless, since I became interested in pop music in mid-2014 and started making my personal chart in December 2014, to me, it's the top 200 songs of all time. And because the countdown is personal, I think it's totally valid to advertise it in this way. So hopefully you won't close this window once you see that description. But I can't stop you, so feel free to do so.
This countdown can truly be better interpreted if you understand a bit of background about my life. Because each and every one of these 200 songs can describe a particular moment in my life since May 16, 2014. On that day, something happened to me that completely altered my life (it's not as drastic as it sounds, but for a guy who hasn't been through a lot, the "May 16th Incident", as I call it, is the life changing event). The reason why I got interested in music around the same time as the incident is somewhat related to the incident itself. I learned a lot of things from the May 16 Incident, but one thing I learned was to cherish every single moment of my life. And since music walked in, I truly started connecting every moment with different pieces. That's why I'm so passionate in music and creating a personal chart. To me, it's not just ranking the songs, it's ranking experiences I have had in my life. That's why I loved 2015 music - because 2015 was so awesome in my personal life that I viewed music that year as awesome too.
I will not go into detail about the my life up to 2016 or the May 16 Incident yet, although it'll definitely make this countdown be more meaningful. Here's my tentative schedule for the countdown: November 15, 2016: #200-#191 November 16, 2016: Sadly, I don't get home until 8pm on Wednesdays, so no songs posted... November 17, 2016: #190-#181 November 18, 2016: #180-#171 November 19, 2016: #170-#161 November 20, 2016: #160-#151 November 21, 2016: #150-#141 November 22, 2016: #140-#131 November 23, 2016: A more detailed description of Chicken077's life and why music is so important. This will help you understand my chart and the countdown better (since I take a break from countdowning on Wednesdays, but this is Thanksgiving eve) November 24, 2016/Thanksgiving: #130-#121 & Video posted on YouTube (DO NOT WATCH IT UNTIL I FINISH THE COUNTDOWN BECAUSE IT'LL RUIN ALL THE FUN. Of course, I can't stop you...) November 25, 2016: #120-#111 November 26, 2016: #110-#101 November 27, 2016: No songs. It's the day before school begins again after Thanksgiving, so I need some relax time before I sprint towards 1st Semester Finals) November 28, 2016: #100-#91 November 29, 2016: #90-#81 November 30, 2016: Wednesday no song day December 1, 2016: #80-#71 December 2, 2016: #70-#61 December 3, 2016: #60-#51 December 4, 2016: Pre-top 50 break. Because I'd gotta admit, I'm probably gonna fall behind someday December 5, 2016: #50-#46 December 6, 2016: #45-#41 December 7, 2016: Wednesday no song day December 8, 2016: #40-#36 December 9, 2016: #35-#31 December 10, 2016: #30-#26 December 11, 2016: #25-#21 December 12, 2016: #20-#16 December 13, 2016: #15-#11 December 14, 2016: Wednesday no song day & break to make sure I catch up + build suspense for top 10 December 15, 2016: #10-#7 December 16, 2016: #6-#3 Saturday, December 17, 2016: #1 and #2 songs announced Note: because December 17 looks dangerously close to finals (Finals days are the 19th, 20th, and the 21st for me), I might have to delay this last part of the countdown to Winter Break, a week after December 17. If that happens, I will announce it at around December 1-5 ish
So there's the tentative schedule for this countdown. And more likely than not, I will fall behind a day or two, and that's what I have the break days for. Also, I may have to delay the final days of the countdown (see reason above).
I hope that through the next month, all of you will get to know at least one artist/song that you never heard of but like now. I also hope that through this countdown, you will get to learn something new about me and I'll learn something new about you. It'll be a very fun, nostalgic, and interesting time, guys. And this time, I WILL finish this countdown. Even if that means spilling in to 2017. This is the one project, despite massive, I've been waiting for for 100 weeks. Also, because this is such a massive undertaking for a busy guy like me, this will probably be the prettiest formatted post. All my future posts will be pretty plain text, with the only formatting probably being a larger song name. Sadly, I don't think I'll have time for fancy font faces, colors, or sizes. Members and visitors of Pulse, this is Chicken077's Top 200 Songs of All Time.
Please scroll down to the bottom of the last page to view most recent updates to this countdown.

#150: Dawin f/ Silento - Dessert Peak: 35 Weeks in Top 100: 14 Weeks in Top 10: N/A
After Silento's horrendous debut Watch Me, I had zero confidence that Silento would make better music. However, this song sort of proved me wrong. Although this song didn't necessarily become better with Silento in it, it's definitely a huge improvement from Watch Me. With or without Silento, I found this song extremely catchy and it thus debuted on my chart in late November 2015. It dropped out in three weeks but reentered in January 2016, lasting all the way into March. It peaked at #35, which was unexpected for me when it first debuted. Overall, this song isn't bad at all, but it definitely won't stick on to me for too long. However, it's catchy and fun aspects was enough for it to peak at #35 and make the lowest spot on this "year-end" chart.
#149: J. Balvin - Ginza Peak: 40 Weeks in Top 100: 21 Weeks in Top 10: N/A

I have a video up on Youtube uploaded a while back on these 150 songs. wait what's your YouTube username? It's "Popular Music Charts". You may not be able to find it on YT by direct search (pretty sure a search of "Popular Music Charts" won't really return my channel haha) so here's a link to my channel :) www.youtube.com/channel/UCFgXwbp4bTB7nUlqEcqWSpw

I love countdowns :) They're always so exciting! Are you doing this countdown in addition to a year-end countdown, or is this actually when your chart year ends?

I actually have two year end tracking periods, one from June to May (I originally wanted to call this "top 100 songs of the 2015-2016 school year", but I realized that not everyone's still in school haha. I also do this since I don't really want songs caught between years to be treated unfairly), and another from January to December, so I'll be doing another year-end countdown for 2016 in early 2017! :)

It is interesting how everyone decides to do their year-end countdowns! I have been trying to decide how I am going to do mine so as to eliminate the problem of songs getting screwed in the transition between years. I have decided that at the start of 2017, any songs that are still on my chart will just continue where they left off in points totals. It just seems like the easiest way, and I can't really think of a downside. (I use an inverse point system, btw.) Any songs I love that are hovering outside of the top 20 when the year ends will probably place pretty low on the year-end chart, so including any points they earn from 2016 in their 2017 year-end totals will allow them to get the representation that they deserve in 2017 rather than 2016. And if they happen to be high enough to do well on the 2016 chart despite not peaking yet, I probably like them well enough that I won't care if they do well 2 years in a row! Lol

Lol Haha that sounds like an interesting and working idea! And it saves a lot more work than making two year end charts . I don't think it's gonna work for my chart, though. Unlike your chart, which seems more dynamic, there are some super-longevity songs on my chart (and even the average top 50 song lasts on the order of 30 weeks although recent songs seem to be lasting slightly shorter), so it's almost inevitable that certain songs will make it high on two year end charts, and it'll be tough determining which weeks go into which year, and if the song is more representative of the previous or the next year. But a more dynamic chart like yours where songs enter/exit the top 20 relatively quickly makes it easy to determine if a song is more suitable on the YE chart for the previous or next year, and seems like a pretty feasible idea :)

#144: Pentatonix - Can't Sleep Love Peak: 38 Weeks in Top 100: 16 Weeks in Top 10: N/A Entirety of its run in the relevant time period
"Cause I can't do it anymore (Yeah!) Gimme that can't sleep love" Fun fact: The library at our school is open all the way till 7:30pm on Mondays and Thursdays. I remember I always stayed at the library very late in the beginning and middle of sophomore year (2015-2016 school year). In November and December after Daylight Savings Time, I remember it was really dark towards the end of my stay every day, and I was one of the only people at the library. And it was at that time where Sirius XM constantly plays this song. I usually listen to Sirius XM while working, and I always associate this song with being in the library when it's dark and lonely (along with a few other songs). Good times... I miss it... #143: Ellie Goulding - Something In The Way You Move Peak: 44 Weeks in Top 100: 20 Weeks in Top 10: N/A (16 of the 20 weeks within the relevant time period, peaked during relevant time period)
"Heart is sinking like a cannonball, Baby kill it what're you waiting for" Fun fact: Can't really think of something I could really relate to when I hear this song. All I remember was that this song was on the radio when my mom picked me up from school on day in February or March 2016 and I don't remember if anything special happened that day? Maybe something did? I'm not sure... #142: Olly Murs f/ Travie McCoy - Wrapped Up Peak: 4 Weeks in Top 100: 48 Weeks in Top 10: 12 (25 of the 48 weeks within the relevant time period, peaked at #46 during relevant time period)
"And when you touch it, the feeling lingers, takes me up so high I can't come down" Fun fact: Wow, this song was one of my jams during late freshman year (early 2015). Another late night/darkness memory! In February 2015, I participated in this piano competition in which the first round I had to go somewhere to record some songs and then send a CD to the judges. So one Thursday night after school, I went over to the Silicon Valley 30 miles south from home to record some songs. I was expected to finish at 8pm, but due to some technological issues, we finished at 11pm. When my mom was driving me home, the road was extremely dark and lonely. Just as we got on the almost empty freeway, "Wrapped Up" came up on the radio. Prior to this day, I loved the song, but this was the week "Wrapped Up" officially became my jam as it surges into the top 10 and soon top 5. This was over a year and a half ago, such good days...
This countdown is gonna make me really nostalgic lol... More songs and stories from Chicken077 coming soon!

I hadn't even thought of that, but that is so true! The longest any song has been on my chart so far is 29 weeks, but honestly the majority of them peter out around 20 weeks... And I only allow 2 drop weeks and then send them recurrent, whereas you keep them charting the whole time they drop. As far as your latest batch of countdown songs goes, I think your little stories are very cool! And I absolutely love that you are highlighting lyrics as well. Are you trying to pick your favorite line from each song?

So I never managed to finish or even get much far into this top 150 mid-2015 to mid-2016 chart lol. I got kinda overwhelmed by HS junior year and I had too much work, so sadly, I didn't get the time to finish it. And now that year-end is approaching, I think this previous chart isn't that relevant anymore. I am, however, excited to announce that with holiday season coming up and the semester winding down, I have a bit more time to post here. Those that follow my personal chart know that Week 100 is coming up, so it's time to count down the top 200 songs of all time since I started my personal chart 100 weeks ago in December 2014! And this time, hopefully, I will finish lol. In fact, I will give myself a strict schedule: Week 100 on my chart is 11/12/2016. I will spend Week 101 finishing up calculations (in addition to continuing my chart), and starting Wednesday of that week (11/16/2016), I will start posting my countdown for the top 200 songs of all time starting that day. Every day, I will post 10 songs, which means it'll take 20 days to finish posting. That'll take us into the first week of December. I have promised YouTube, however, that I will release the video on Thanksgiving Day 11/24/2016 (I have some followers on YT that aren't on Pulse. And plus, my crush is waiting for that video too lol), and that's the day I will post #120-111. Hence, it is strongly recommended to not watch the video before this countdown ends in order to not spoil everything. I think the reason why my previous countdown failed (in addition to me being busy) is that most people watched the top 150 video. But hey, I can't stop you, so feel free to do so if you wish. But seriously, I kinda want to maintain a atmosphere of suspense, so please try to refrain from watching the video. I will not post the video here on Pulse until the day I finish the countdown. Now that I have given myself a pretty strict schedule, I hope that I can follow through this time, and given that Holiday Season is coming up soon, hopefully I'll have more time to do all of this. But until the first update on 11/16, enjoy the trailer I have made a while back! (some may have already watched this) Also, because I failed my other countdown, here's the video if you haven't watched it of the top 150 songs from June 2015 to May 2016: And finally, idk if anyone will do this, but you guys may feel free to predict the top 10/20/50 songs of all time (weeks 1 - 100) on this thread. You guys only have #1 information and chart data from Weeks 75ish to Week 100 (soon), and that one June 2015 to May 2016 video, so it's a bit unfair but I still think it's possible to predict at last the top 10 or 20ish of my chart. And if you wanna have fun, feel free to do top 50 or even top 100 or the whole chart (though nobody will get those accurate - there's songs that charted you guys probably didn't even know did). If I get enough posts on this thread of predictions (5ish?), I will be making it a competition to see whose predictions are the most accurate (I'll probably only be checking top 20 since anything below that is truly unfair - you guys like don't even have data except for #1s and partially top 10s for weeks 1 - 75 of my chart lol) and there will be a winner! Have fun! Hey guys! I just finished compiling together all the points for this coming countdown and have the rankings ready! And man was it a long process (took the whole day) but it was really fun and nostalgic, looking back at all the 2014, 2015, and 2016 songs. There is also a change in plan in how I will post this. The first 10 songs will be posted on 11/15, 1 day before the projected start day on 11/16 (I'll change the title of the thread, if not already), and I will skip a day on 11/16. Also, other than the week of Thanksgiving, I will not be posting on Wednesdays (due to time issues). Finally, I will be posting 10 songs every day up until the top 50, where I will post according to what I feel is appropriate. So stay tuned, and hope to see you guys on 11/15! {A Few Spoilers} Point value of the #1 song is over 2.5 million!!! The top 3 were all trans-2 million songs!!!
The top 32 are all in the 1 million club!!!
It may be because of my mechanism of equating point values to some of the ranks, but up until the 4k mark (around #100), each song is so far away from the other, but from 100-200, songs barely differ in points. In fact, the #200 song has 200k points, and #100 has around 400k, so a difference in 200k. Then there's #1, 2.5m points...
You guys will love the #200 song. I'm surprised it made it on.
Because in 2016, my chart was a bit more static than 2015, and also because 2016 songs haven't had a chance to fall yet, there are much more 2015 songs on here, and 2015 songs generally have better positions. I guess that's expected though. Tags: @markg94 Leo ✔ Ice Cream 15 (Broccoli 2018) MTSChart21 Sambalada georgetherunner314 bboat11 fearlessarrow Mr. Thonk Eyes .indulgecountry

{Spoiler}{Spoiler}Sadly, most Kelsea songs won't chart that high on this particular all time list because with the exception of Dibs, her songs really grew on me this summer, so her songs haven't had a time to fall yet so didn't get as many points as songs that have already dropped. But still, for less than 30 week on chart songs, her positions are absolutely incredible and definitely expect her songs to chart high on future YE/all time charts!! So excited for this to start tomorrow!!!! Are you going to do a 2016 year-end countdown still too, or is this one meant to kill two birds with one stone? I'm definitely gonna do a 2016 YE countdown! Except I might change this year up a bit. In 2015, my YE tracking period actually included 54 weeks, from January 2015 to December 2015 plus Weeks 1 and 2, the two weeks of my chart in 2014. What I've been thinking is that I might do a December to November tracking period this time, so the weeks that count for the 2016 YE chart will go from the first week of December 2015 up to the last week of November 2016. I'm thinking of changing it mainly because my other YE tracking period goes from June to May, so the end of November would be exactly the halfway point of that. I felt like last year was kinda weird having the end of one tracking period not be in the exact middle of the other one, and that's just a tad bit unfair to certain songs. The other reason is that I want to make my video, release it, and do this countdown during Christmas Break, since I'm a busy guy and Christmas/holiday season will give me time to work on it so it won't fail like the last countdown lol . This countdown will bring us right into early/mid December, and it seems that I'm probably going to change my YE tracking period, so just as this countdown winds down, get ready for the next!!! And I will be doing a top 500 songs of all time soon. Dang, that seems like a massive undertaking... Good luck on that and tag me once you get started

Lol I feel like I am waiting in line for an interactive exhibit at a museum!!! "If you look to your left, you will see Daya's "Don't Let Me Down", a song which came out in 2016, during a relatively stable portion of chicken077's life. Now, if you look down there on the right, you will see Taylor Swift's "Wildest Dreams". That song, from mid-2015, is actually very special, and left an impact greater than Miss Swift herself could have ever imagined." By the way, did I mention I'm excited??!!! Disclaimer: I don't actually know when those songs came out, but that sounded about right in my head ;)

#200: Kungs vs Cookin’ on 3 Burners – This Girl
Era: 6 (maybe 7?) Peak: 9 Weeks in Top 100: 10 (Still on) Weeks in Top 10: 1 (Still in top 10) Points: 198267
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the song that barely made the cutoff to score at exactly #200 on this countdown.
But how in the world does the most recent top 10 entry so coincidentally become the #200 song of all time? Well… it’s just a coincidence. It is just one of three songs on this entire countdown that made it with less than 15 weeks on chart. As for future potential goes for this song, it’s been rising really fast over the past two months, but it seems to be stalling a bit this week, so I don’t know how far it’s going to go in the future. Regardless, what an awesome first 10 weeks for this song! Congratulations Kungs!
The first time I heard the full song was a Saturday this September, the first day I drove over a mountain pass by myself (Altamont Pass). I remembered hearing this song and instantly liking it, mainly because the song has a tiny bit of a mild-depressing and lonely vibe to it (though many may disagree lol). And because I drove on a non-freeway road across the pass, the road was kinda desolate and for those of you that know about the hills of the Bay Area, they’re all yellow except when it rains a lot (this song kinda reminds me of the color yellow for some reason lmao, so I guess it's fitting for the drive). Also, the pacing of this song is very suitable for listening while driving, at least for me. So the environment as I was driving through Altamont Pass was very similar to the vibe of the song, and that’s actually what attracted me to it a lot.
“No other! There's no other! Than a heart that feel and a heart that's true Somethin' that you've got to know this girl”

Chicken077's Quick Guide to the era numbers:
Era 0: Any song that would've peaked prior to the beginning of my chart, i.e. before Take Me To Church/Blank Space era Era 1: December 2014 to April 2015, between Take Me To Church's 1st week at #1 (Week 1 on chart) to Style's 7th and final week at #1 (Week 18 on chart) Era 2: April 2015 to August 2015, between See You Again's 1st week at #1 (Week 19 on chart) to Photograph's 2nd week at #1 (Week 36 on chart) Era 3: August 2015 to December 2015, Photograph's 3rd week at #1 (Week 37 on chart) to Wildest Dreams's 3rd and final week at #1 (Week 54 on chart) Era 4: January 2016 to April 2016, Out Of The Woods's 1st and only week at #1 (Week 55 on chart) to 7 Years's 3rd and final week at #1 (Week 71 on chart) Era 5: April 2016 to August 2016, I Took A Pill In Ibiza's 1st week at #1 (Week 72 on chart) to Peter Pan's 6th week at #1 (Week 87 on chart) Era 6: August 2016 to Present day, Peter Pan's 7th week at #1 (Week 88 on chart) to Week 100 and beyond
Those these era numbers are based more on the movements of certain songs on my chart and how static my chart is, these eras highly correspond with life events and feelings about my life as well as music in that era.

#199: Disclosure featuring Lorde – Magnets
Era: Mid to late 3 Peak: 25 Weeks in Top 100: 25 Weeks in Top 10: N/A Points: 199580
Although this song first charted in September 2015, it didn’t really grow on me until November 2015. I took this enrichment class at Fremont (around 15 miles from home) last year on Saturdays from 6 to 9 that I still dread to this day. Right after Daylight Savings Time ended, the drive there became a nighttime drive, so I started sleeping in the car. One day when I woke up, this song played on the radio, and I felt that my nervous feeling about the class corresponded well with the overall mood of this song and the darkness of the night sky. And for some reason, ever since then, I always seemed to hear this song when my mom drove me to the class at night. That was when the song truly grew on me as it smashed into the top 50 and eventually reached a peak of 25. But like all pre-era 5 songs, the song fell out of its peak quickly but lasted for a while in the low 40s (one of the reason why you’ll see so much era 2/3 songs on this countdown - there are so many songs back then that I liked and I wanted to get a higher peak that I had to rotate older songs out quickly, so so many more songs charted back then than right now), and didn’t quite gain enough points to make the 200,000 points mark.
Experiences from this enrichment class that I still dread will come back again through this countdown. It spurred a lot of memories.
"Uh-oh, dancin' past the point of no return Let go, we can free ourselves of all we've learned I love this secret language that we're speaking Say it to me, let's embrace the point of no return"

#198: Keith Urban – John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16
Era: very late 2 to 3 Peak: 24 Weeks in Top 100: 19 Weeks in Top 10: N/A Points: 200183
The first song with more than 200k points! I first knew this song towards the middle of Summer ’15 from watching the Billboard charts, and I thought the name of this song was hilarious. I didn’t take a listen, however, until late in the summer a few weeks before school started, and I felt that it was one of the better country songs (since I wasn’t that into country back then). I just felt it was a fun and lively song and corresponded great with my optimistic and happy attitude towards social life back then. If there’s an event I relate this song with, it’s probably school registration, because right when I got back from registration for my high school sophomore year back then, I saw the video of this song on the “recommended videos” for YouTube, and I actually thought the video was very interesting and fun like the song itself. So this quickly climbed my charts once era 3 began and reached a peak of #24 in September when The Hills was #1. But again, it had a pretty standard late era 2/early era 3 chart run – slower rise to peak and faster fall, and was eventually rotated out by late era 3. Still one of my favorite country songs to this day and a reminder of how great early sophomore year and summer '15 was (like many other songs to come), it just debuted in an era where country wasn’t prominent so it didn’t do as well as it should’ve.
"Just another rebel in the great wide open on the boulevard of broken dreams And I learned everything I needed to know from John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16"
