A couple upcoming things that were filmed the last couple days. She did "Christmas Eve" solo and sang "All I Ask of You" with Josh Groban for CBS' A Home for the Holidays special that will air on the 19th. She'll also be on The Voice finale. I don't know what she sang for sure other than it wasn't LSS, a Christmas song or a song she's done on tv yet. Quoting myself, sue me. ;) The Voice performance is the next single so we'll know soon enough and it's either Heat or Medicine, that's all I know about it. Also on Medicine, they have Lester (drummer) doing the deep voice parts now.

I figured the Voice performance would be the new single if it wasn't something she had performed before. I am not convinced it is Medicine yet since it sounds like she may have just said it was in the running which is something she has already said publicly. I have no doubt it is Heat or Medicine with a very slim chance of WYCTL if they suddenly change their strategy.

Understand their predicament here. Both are great choices. 'Medicine' was initially my favorite on first listen, but 'Heat' has held up a bit better for me over time. If we're choosing to cater to Hot AC, then yeah 'Heat' is the obvious way to go.

I would have preferred "Heat," but "Medicine" is definitely the next best option. Hearing it in semi-HQ live from that live set she did in NY recently made me enjoy it much more. It really came to life with the full band/horns.

I know someone that was at the taping but they're adhering to the papers they signed. I didn't want to push, so I only got a confirmation that it was one of those 2 songs. :) eta: a bunch of good videos from last night at this account www.youtube.com/channel/UCIObig57_41XjGw-1UFVEhA/videosalso at that link are a lot of videos from the great Troubadour show prior to Stronger's release.

If we're choosing to cater to Hot AC, then yeah 'Heat' is the obvious way to go. a hac-only hit isn't going to keep the era going and pop will have little interest in "heat" unless it follows a bigger hit. "send my love" only went top 10 on pop because it was adele and max martin, and the only people who seem so adamant on heat being the big single are kelly fans. "medicine" brings the sass, the tempo radio music directors crave, it will appeal to more than 30 something white women in suburbia, and its r&b, like most popular music right now. it's the one song on the album that, if promoted properly, with a great video from someone like chris marrs pillero or dave meyers, could be the BIG hit.

So then what was Love So Soft's problem? That had 'sass' and 'tempo' and was super catchy too and 'radio music directors' didn't care. Lets be real, its going to be an uphill battle to get ANY single further than #20 on CHR.

I think Heat is the safer choice and offers more of what the casual listener population (and radio) expects from Kelly. Plus it grabs your attention right away. Medicine is a risk and I think it takes longer to "get it." That being said I think it is a better packaged song, fits a bit better with what's popular now and mmmmaybe is a slower burn? If you have one listen to grab people I would go with Heat but if a little patience is possible then I think Medicine. I think it is a more logical follow-up to LSS too...but perhaps too similar and we need to showcase the album's range?
Ugh, I am constantly going back and forth. I am so glad I am not in the business of making these decisions. I don't care as long as it keeps the album on people's radar screens.

Medicine is an R&B song? The hell?
Anyway, if it's only between Heat and Medicine.... then, she should do Heat, and hope it has at least a similar run to Love So Soft.
Either one is going to struggle.

I think "Medicine" is slightly less busy and easier to sing along to-- more immediate, maybe-- but to argue that either of these two is somehow organically a smash while the other is a flop to me seems silly. They're both fun, up-tempo pop songs that lean a bit rhythmic and showcase Kelly's voice. On the level of which should go next, I'm in the camp of neither (and team "Meaning of Life"), but I think they're both strong songs that will do well for her on HAC and can help this album have a bit of longevity.

Either one is going to struggle. R&B-leaning pop. it sounds like Mariah Carey's second album. You think the electro EDM inspired music on the new Taylor album is " very TODAY." I suggest you listen to the radio, or even Spotify's Top 20. Revelry "Love So Soft" was a midtempo, slower than "Mr. Know It All," and I still think it was the best choice for the first single.

Im team Medicine as that was an instant favorite of mine. I’m just a little bummed Meaning of Life is not the 2nd single. Was really looking forward for a big beautiful Grammy moment with that song. I thought for sure Medicine or Heat would be the third single.

I'll be happy with "Medicine" as the 2nd single. I wouldn't bet on its likelihood for success, but it'll be nice to have at least one single this era I enjoy.

My friends who are not big KC fans gravitate more towards Medicine.
I personally think Medicine has a stronger hook lyrics wise, gives a fresher sound for KC, and showcases more facets of her voice.
Heat on the other hand edges Medicine in terms of production, and employs more creative/playful phrasing of the lyrics. Coming from Love So Soft, it's also the expected successor lyrically and sonically.
If they want more people outside of the KC fanbase to discover and embrace what this album has to offer I think Medicine is a safe bet. Both songs are great however and deserve to be a single. It's just a question of when should they be released.

Everyone keeps talking about wanting a MOL Grammys performance and I’m sitting here shook at the idea of an epic Go High Grammys performance replete with patriotic imagery, a choir, and the flawless runs during the bridge slaying the awe struck crowd.

I have to admit that Medicine seems more radio friendly to me but I would be ok with Heat too.

Holy sh*t. I was so completely on board with "Medicine" as single #2, but after this...nope.

I'm seeing this queen tonight in the Chicago burbs and I'm hoping she does some Wrapped in Red tracks.

The Heat performance is incredible. My only criticism would be that they should turn the BG vocalists' mics up so it doesn't sound like some of the lyrics are missing

I have a new, small qualm with Medicine as a single, in that I don't think it goes as hard as it could after the bridge.
The bridge is great and the big note is perfect, but after that it feels kind of flat. The chorus only runs once after this, which is great compared to LSS, which feels like it just keeps going, but I would prefer a 90s Mariah key change and extended end of the song. If they tightened up some of the low, spoken parts and padding in-between verses, the run time wouldn't change drastically either.

Okay does Kelly think it's fun to add instruments for live performances? I am actually underwhelmed by the studio version, because the chorus lacks more instruments for my taste. This live version makes up for it. INCREDIBLE!
