Amazing! They sound surprisingly great together all four of them! Now... Kelly and John... they absolutely need to work together again at some point and record either a Christmas album or a standards cover album!

I'm happy to see the return of the coaches performance but I wasn't sure what to expect because they're all so very different. They picked a perfect song and that was great! And bonus, no Adam! I don't know if they're going with a theme song with the show or not or if the cover is taking the place of one. At the end of this promo clip the other day, she's singing something new. Maybe they're going to be using it for bumpers?

I would like her to keep the covers for the show opener and create a theme song that closes out every show.

when did this place turn into the kce? First substantive discussion in this thread in months and you come on with your first post and completely miss the point. Bravo. That must be a record. Reading again more carefully, perhaps you'd notice that most people were actually being quite unforgiving in terms of her time as a huge popstar, and her prospects after her short time at the top - and how her spinning her career into lasting, diverse success is somewhat of a miracle. If that sounds like lip service to you, again, I'd suggest reading again till you understand what people's words mean or not comment at all. So good to see you back in this thread, jack. I have missed your insightful posts !

Re: More Than Words
So all 4 of them sound great and their voices blend surprisingly well together. And I know this is Kelly's thread and all and her voice was silky smooth and beautiful here, but damn this song sounds tailor made for Gwen. I need a solo cover from her.

I’m a total fan of the covers but also think it would be cool if she threw in one of her own deep cuts that’s not on her touring set lists on occasion.
As for the show, only seen the first couple of episodes but I see her quickly finding her groove and settling into the hosting gig. She’s a natural and I think her personality is the biggest draw so all the talking and genuine enthusiasm she shows is endearing, not self-aggrandizing.

Totally blindsided by the Jennifer Garner and Kelly friendship.... When did that happen? Or did they just act like they know each other more than they do? Either way, their chemistry was golden, she’s got to have her back on the show!

These opening covers are, for the most part...not good.

Yeah, those covers could definitely be better. They tend to feel rushed to me, and Kelly sometimes seems out of breath. I’m no vocal/music expert by any means, but I wonder if it would help to slow down the songs just a bit to give her more room to breath.

I've been loving the covers so far! It's so fun looking forward to which artist she'll cover each day. And for the amount of time she and her band have to learn and rehearse the song, she sounds pretty damn good.
Today's episode with Christina Aguilera was the best one so far. They got along so well and it seemed like they knew each other forever just like with Jennifer Garner.

I hadn't considered this but I really like that she comes from an artist's background. When she interjects and adds her own anecdotes, it brings more interesting conversations because she just has a different take on the music industry. I do think she can tone it down juuust a bit because sometimes it feels too much like a casual conversation with two people kinda trying to fight to get in the next word. It's obvious her conversationalist approach makes people feel at home and so if she can bring a balance between the two, it would be fantastic.

These opening covers are, for the most part...not good. I sadly have to agree. I think she's juggling so much right now that her basically having to learn a new cover EVERY single day just isn't working. It's a good idea in theory, but it isn't coming off particularly polished. Today was probably the worst of the bunch so far. I hope they figure out a way to smooth it out. Maybe just do one cover on a Monday (Sat/Sun being down days to rehearse a bit)? That said, her interview with Christina today was fantastic. I think Christina can be reserved in her interviews and it comes off stiff / not really personable at times, but Kelly completely got her out of her shell and connected entirely. I don't really know how their voices would mesh on a duet, honestly, but it would be cool to one day get a duet of "Miss Independent." Really enjoying this and I think a season 2 renewal is a no-brainer as long as the ratings can hold steady.

Yeah, I'd like her to throw in one of her own songs 1-2 times a week to give her a break from the covers. Even an album track here and there would be a good break for her I think.

Some of the banter in here lately is, for the most part, frustrating.
I think these covers feel middle of the road (or worse) to us bc we know more than any other group what she’s capable of when covering songs fully warmed up and deep into a concert. For the unacquainted, I think they are doing their job. And they are driving a lot of press, which any new show needs. While I’d LOVE to see some deep KC cuts, those aren’t gonna drive clicks — at least early on in the show’s run. Talk shows rely on the click economy, and they know that.

She and Xtina are adorable together. If this talk show means we get to finally see her chat with several of her fellow musical icons, I'm 100% here for it.

She clearly took an easy way out on ANOM's arrangement and there was one spot where she almost got off the rhythm a bit, but it's not like she sounded bad at all. I am with mikeyj7 on this one, we are so accustomed as fans to Kelly on 10 that it can easily feel underwhelming to us when she gives us a 7 or 8. To the rest of the world it's just Kelly Clarkson embracing her karaoke roots, and those karaoke roots are what got her here in the first place so it works. My only real concern with the covers - and I don't know why it didn't occur to me until today's episode, as I thought ANOM was cute - is how it might wear on her voice. I know she knows how to take care of herself and it's only one song a day, but she's doing a LOT these days and she has said before that her voice is the first thing to go when she is tired. So that one song becomes more work than if she was only focusing on the one song. I think in the future she might move to do a mix of prerecorded bits (like the 9 to 5 intro for the premiere) and 'live' songs. The prerecorded stuff can be be put together and taped on the same day, because they don't have to be episode specific. Then the on-set performances won't be so burdensome bc she'd only be doing two or three of those each week and giving herself a breather in between.

I feel like Kelly is right up there with Ellen in terms of most well liked celebrities... The genuine admiration Kelly’s guests have had so far is palpable, it’s a legit love fest! The show has been pretty great so far! I like the idea of opening with a cover, but I think she should be picking the songs. Maybe like one day a week do an audience pick, but overall she should take charge of that; it’ll seem less karaoke. Then again, it is Kellyoke, so she’s clearly not going for perfection.
All in all, she has put together a fantastic show and once she settles in to a certain energy level, this will surely last a long, long time, which I assume is the endgame here. It seems like Kelly is setting herself up with plenty of cash flow until she’s ready to settle down and “retire”... So glad to see her career relaunch the way it has. It shows that happiness is achievable; she came from nothing and went through hell well into her career in order to get to this point. She deserves it all, so happy to see good things happen to especially good people!

I would argue that a deep cut of Kelly's could have the same effect as a cover if it was a 10/10 performance.
