I wonder if the kellyclarksonlive.com site is going to be more active once she's touring again, such as selling downloads of full concerts as some artists do. For now, 4 new tracks to download once a month is a treat, but I have to assume there's a business plan to use the site to actually make money at some point. Are we all just assuming we will be getting four tracks/month? Did I miss something? I mean, that would be nice considering I thought it was only going to be 1-2 max a month.

All she said was that they'd be putting out free content the last Friday of each month. Curious to see what the next output is.

MKIA is very sassy and light pop/soul though so her description wasn't far off. It fits nicely when paired with other stronger r&b cuts on a playlist surprisingly.

Amazing performance.
Is it possible Kelly may include previously performed material on the new record such as WDYT?

Amazing performance. Is it possible Kelly may include previously performed material on the new record such as WDYT? Well, that already was on an album, so RCA owns the rights to that. But generally, unless it's a truly sensational cover, I can only hope the answer is a definitive "no."

I feel like a lot of the "soulful" tracks Kelly has done in the past have been whittled down to over-produced, check the boxes for a pop album track type of records. I don't know if that makes sense. I think Kelly has given us a taste but I don't think we know what her idea of soul will be until we get this album. I just hope they go 100% authentic (whatever that is for Kelly) and not worry about album sales or mainstream success. Otherwise they fall back into the old trap and are left wondering what could have been if they followed their vision to the end. Her idea of soul may be something that goes #1 on CHR with a feature or it may be something only 100,000 people ever buy but I want to hear it.

That performance (which is also one of my all time favorites) of "Why Don't You Try" is further proof of why I wish Kelly would live with her material a little longer before recording it. The little melodic changes between that live version and the recorded version really make a difference to my ear (for the better), and I think some of her material wouldn't become so dated (so to speak) the moment she performed/improved it live if she played around a little more with the songs before she recorded them.

That's exactly how I feel. I hope she takes her time with this album and they experiment with a band in the studio and even do a few private shows for the fans before recording in the studio. With her songs I often feel she just goes in the studio and record the vocals to a pre recorded track. I want her to experiment and let loose.

I've been waiting years for Kelly Aretha Clarkson to really come out in full force. She and her music has disinterested and bored me in the past few years, so I hope she really delivers.

Yaas @ this sudden love for MKIA. I thought I was the only one. It's legit one of my favorite songs of hers. I think I recall quite a few people coming around to MKIA a month or so into its run. I know quite a few people like it...but other than her AMA performance I will never be able to get into MKIA myself. I want to, but I just can't. I do get the 'sassy' part, but the Tina? She lost me there. I felt You Love Me was her real Tina moment. I sort of had the same issue with My December, I think she referred to Yeah as being a Chaka/Prince inspired song, but I heard Prince more in Can I Have a Kiss. Yeah was just messy, though I enjoyed it. Pretty sure I'm one of the few who did, lol.

Yeah, once the initial pop forum flush of missed expectations dissipated, I think most people find MKIA at the very least okay (the same thing happened with "Catch My Breath," but the eventual reaction was far more positive--deservingly so). I like MKIA a lot--great chorus--but the opening lyrics are still garbage. I remember her releasing handwritten lyrics of the song and I was just like...................................

"Catch My Breath"...that was a little spectacle of a song. She snapped on it towards the end.

"Yeah" is one of the few Kelly songs that I'm legit embarrassed - for Kelly - to listen to. It's horrific. But then again I LIVE for Einstein so what do I know.
MKIA took a while to click with me, too. I actually was floored at how amazing it sounded live when I first heard it on the Stronger tour, and it continues to be a standout during Kelly shows for me.

I prefer TDWFA of the bonus tracks, but I actually feel like TOMT is one of Kelly's more "soulful" songs and would love to hear more of that from her on this record.

More of this, please. I remember Kelly mentioned that she had contacted the songwriters, Wendell Mobley & Neil Thrasher and asked them to write something like this for her. Does anyone know if anything ever materialized?

Few comments - good to see Kelly feeling more free and able to do what she likes. I'm not a fan of songs like TTWLI or Walk Away, so that direction may not be my cup of tea, but I respect Kelly as an artist so I just want the best for her - I also think she could've benefitted from marinating her songs more... To me the whole MD album had potentially great moments but I couldn't find one song when everything was right into place. Maybe Sober was the best one, but it could've still benefited from some extra punch in the last minute. Other songs in the album needed either some extra production switch or some melodic change to make them pretty good. That was the most disappointing element of the album - I didn't know KC talked about MKIA as her Tina moment... But maybe she has songs in her mind from a specific artist that then associates with a song of her own. Like, I can see some similitude between MKIA and We don't need another hero or maybe even IDWF - I think and hope PxP (idol) will be nominated for Pop vocal performance

This is what I'm hoping for more of. Stripped down. Soulful. That magical occurrence of sublime vocal + interpretive skill. When she has lyrics worthy of THAT VOICE. Transcendant.
