Unfortunately, Spotify's stats don't go back before last year's halftime show, so we don't have data on Katy Perry's, Bruno Mars's, Beyoncé's, or Madonna's. All of which would have been performed while Spotify was active in the US.

Out of curiosity I wanted to see which "classic" songs had the highest play count in Spotify. It's possible that I missed a few, but these look like the most played songs of the 60's through 80's: 1960's 1
| BROWN EYED GIRL | VAN MORRISON | 131 | 2 | FORTUNATE SON | CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL | 130 | 3 | PAINT IT BLACK | THE ROLLING STONES | 118 | 4 | THE SOUND OF SILENCE | SIMON & GARFUNKEL | 109 | 5 | ALL ALONG THE WATCHTOWER | JIMI HENDRIX | 107 | 6 | MY GIRL | THE TEMPTATIONS | 105 | 7 | HOUSE OF THE RISING SUN | THE ANIMALS | 100 | 8 | GIMME SHELTER | THE ROLLING STONES | 95 | 9 | SYMPATHY FOR THE DEVIL | THE ROLLING STONES | 88 | 10 | RESPECT | ARETHA FRANKLIN | 88 |
1970's 1 | BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY | QUEEN | 233 | 2 | DON'T STOP ME NOW | QUEEN | 165 | 3 | SWEET HOME ALABAMA | LYNYRD SKYNYRD | 147 | 4 | SEPTEMBER | EARTH WIND & FIRE | 142 | 5 | AINT NO MOUNTAIN HIGH ENOUGH | MARVIN GAYE | 140 | 6 | HOTEL CALIFORNIA | THE EAGLES | 138 | 7 | SULTANS OF SWING | DIRE STRAITS | 131 | 8 | I WANT YOU BACK | JACKSON 5 | 122 | 9 | HAVE YOU EVER SEEN THE RAIN | CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL | 119 | 10 | SUPERSTITION | STEVIE WONDER | 117 |
1980'S 1 | DON'T STOP BELIEVIN' | JOURNEY | 261 | 2 | BILLIE JEAN | MICHAEL JACKSON | 206 | 3 | SWEET CHILD O MINE | GUNS N ROSES | 201 | 4 | EYE OF THE TIGER | SURVIVOR | 162 | 5 | AFRICA | TOTO | 148 | 6 | TAKE ON ME | A-HA | 147 | 7 | LIVIN ON A PRAYER | BON JOVI | 144 | 8 | ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST | QUEEN | 141 | 9 | UNDER PRESSURE | QUEEN & DAVID BOWIE | 132 | 10 | WITH OR WITHOUT YOU | U2 | 131 |

"Brown Eyed Girl"??? I thought that "Hey Jude" or "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" would be the most popular from the 60s and they are not even in the top 10.

^ The Beatles catalogue had a late start. It was only added to Spotify about a year ago.
Those numbers seem to be a pretty good gauge at which older hits are the most well-remembered (or the must used in retro playlists...).

For the past few weeks, I've been seeing a lot of errors on the desktop app when it comes to the totals. It'll list an artist's top songs as all "<1,000" streams, which isn't true given it's on big name artists. When you hover over their popularity bars, the numbers also don't come up. It works for some, but not all. So, naturally, I've been going to the online version of Spotify to get the stats, but it updated today and no longer shows that information. I'm afraid they're about to take it away forever.

Closer has surpassed Sorry's total streams to become the 3rd most streamed song on Spotify. I imagine it'll pass Lean On in a couple more months.
Ed Sheeran on US Spotify:
1. Shape Of You 9. Castle On The Hill 17. What Do I Know? 19. Eraser 20. Dive 23. Perfect 24. New Man 25. Galway Girl 26. Happier 28. Hearts Don't Break Around Here 33. How Would You Feel (Paean) 37. Supermarket Flowers 40. Barcelona 45. Bibia Be Ye Ye 49. Nancy Mulligan (Save Myself is below #50)
He also has the entire top 16 on UK Spotify.

So Drake just pulled an Ed Sheeran on US Spotify - 21 songs in the top 22; including the entire top 14.

So Drake will be the probably be the Ed Sheeran of the UK except in the US probably. All songs in billboard top 20 Luckily it won't happen, he doesn't have airplay. In the UK Ed Sheeran pulled that off because they don't count airplay...

It usually takes like a month for the radio to start playing new songs. Thankfully that won't happen with Drake

Audio streaming accounts for ~80% of the UK chart, whereas in the US, it's nowhere near that high.

175. Chuck Berry - Johnny B. Goode 166,308
Well. I'm pleasantly surprised this made the streaming charts, especially with Drake's new album. This made my day.

Passionfuit (light green) 14. Free Smoke (dark green) 30. Teenage Fever (light green)

Just a friendly reminder that 24% of the top 200 right now is comprised of Ed Sheeran or Drake.

"Shape of You" will hit 600 million tomorrow. "Sugar" by Maroon 5 should also reach 600 million within two or three days. "Stay with Me" by Sam Smith is also about a week or two from crossing 600 million.
"Closer" will nearly undoubtedly be the second song to cross one billion. "Shape of You" and "Lean On" will battle it out for third.

If these numbers will keep up, Kendrick may land FOUR songs into the top ten from DAMN. And that's not that unreal.

Just a note: There is no need to make a separate thread about a Spotify record being broken (which I why I merged it into this). It can perfectly be added to this thread.

But what happened between his older projects(untitled unmastered(3 songs on the hot 100(all in the lowest regions) and to pimp a butterfly(peak for the blacker the berry at #67 and about 5 songs on the hot 100 in total)) to having 14/15 most streamed songs and quite possibly having 4 songs in the top 10 and around 8 in the top 25?
